Basic Floral Design by Deborah Dolen Reviews

Whenever I come across a nice floral design in a supermarket or flower shop, I am always amazed how expensive those arrangements are. Sometimes I count only 12 flowers, but the price tag comes close to 90 dollars. With this in mind, I started to think about setting up my own flower arrangement service, so that I could make nice arrangements and earn some great cash.

Before I can do that, I need to learn as much as possible about basic flower designs, and that is where Deborah Dolen's book can assist as it provides basic (and more) techniques and tricks of the trade.

This book starts off with a list of materials you need to do basic flower arrangements. This list was very handy as I could go to Ebay straight away to purchase each of them for a great price. The next chapter contains some great tips to make flower arrangements last longer (I never knew i could wash leafs with milk!!)

Deborah also looks at the right containers, and then continues to talk about the need for green fillers, and oh my, there are quite a lot of different kinds of these you can use in a flower arrangement.

Besides knowledge, Deborah Dolen also teaches techniques and methods to form arrangements. She goes through all the basic forms, and then some direct teaching takes place, as she guides you how to make a particular arrangement. I have never seen that in a flower design book before! She explains exactly what you need, and then explains very detailed step by step what you need to do.

Deborah Dolen ends this book with explaining traditional meanings of common flowers, and I think that will help anyone pick the right flower for the occasion.

This book by Deborah Dolen is very detailed and a great resource for the beginning flower designer. Highly recommended for the hobbyist, and also for us that have a more business oriented mind.

Update: you might want to take a look at some of the authors videos too, as those have helped me and my cousin to learn some of the techniques.

This book, Basic Floral Design by Deborah Dolen, is one of the best books regarding floral arranging that I have seen! For me in particular, I just wanted to learn more about designing for fun. It’s an absolutely wonderful trade to know, as well. I’ve been using newly learned skills to dress up my apartment & it’s been complete, total fun. ☺

The kindle format made it easy for me to read and practice arranging at the same time. I really liked that aspect of reading it. Inside this book is all the information, the supplies & techniques that you would need to do any basic design with fresh flowers or even silks and more. The amount of valuable information packed into this e-book is amazing. She really has her bases covered!

Deborah Dolen, you have really out-done yourself with this book. I am definitely going to be checking out what else you have to offer.

This is probably one of the friendliest, most well put together guides I have read in a while.

The pictures as well as simple diagrams on bows and the likes are top notch. The actual information is incredibly simple to assimilate and I absolutely Love how easy it all is.

Well... how easy Deborah makes it all look.

In reality it's harder than it looks, but I love flowers - so I'll be getting the tools to make a nice centerpiece in no time :)

    thumbs up!

I loved this book, so many helpful hints on the care of blooms, as well as how to deconstruct and reconstruct a floral design. Would highly recommend
