Truth is that if I could have just resisted the lure of dark chocolate I'd have stayed happily ignorant about sex slaves, black-market babies, cheatin' preachers, and an assortment of lowlifes that have intruded on my cluttered, fluttered, and frazzled life. And with that restraint, I would never have been rejected, arrested, and nearly exterminated. Or fallen in love. But wait, like always, I'm getting ahead of the story and how it all happened.

This is a great book to read, especially for Christians. Laugh, cry, and stick your foot in your mouth with Pastor Jane.

The whole thing was manic...the writing..the character....there was humor but the story was jumping all over the place, there was no cohesiveness to any of it...some of there characters were there for no real reason...and the story line didn't really sort out their purpose....I didn't enjoy it and would not recommend it.

I seem to be in the minority on how much I liked this book, or rather, didn't like. I was intrigued by the story line but felt it could have been treated so much better. It's a serious, sad heart-breaking subject matter that I felt was treated way too lightly. I am all for quirky heroines, in fact I usually love them, but the quirkiness factor in this book was way OTT I felt. I especially had trouble at the beginning of the book because the h's thoughts were all over the place and I felt like a ping pong ball. I had to force myself to stick with it through the first couple of chapters and while the ping-pongy-ness settled some, the OTT quirkiness did not. More often I was rolling my eyes at her antics and thinking Really?
There was so much going on the h's life that none of it was given a fair shake in this book - the selling the babies story-line would have been enough but adding in the corrupt preacher/boss and the taking on a foster kid just made me think this women has too much major stuff happening and the timing (literal timing) given to her to handle these things didn't feel real to me so it all felt brushed over. The romance was all but non-existence and I didn't believe in it in the end because there was no resolution to her concerns about the H being an adrenaline junky and thus pushing him out of her life.
Just too much for me to really enjoy the story, I never felt like I got to know the h as a person rather than a personality and barely met the H to form any kind of real opinion about him. -
Reread this book because I liked it so much the first time. Love Eva Shaw's clever way of saying things and fun characters. The storyline is so good. An excellent reminder that there are things in this world that are not pretty. Games of the Heart is more than worth buying and now looking to get Ms Shaw's next book, Doubts of the Heart. I LOVED this book.

How did his get past the editors?
Ok the story is quick paced and fined but the writing! If I were reading it in print my red pencil would be moving faster than poor Pastor Jane each time she fell. And did we really have to read over and over again about how fat, sloppy etc she is? -
A sassy likeable pastor who gets herself into a whole heap of trouble by butting in where she shouldn't. I really enjoyed this romp with a light romantic thread thrown in. I could see this as a movie.
