Payton Archer is looking for love––the true, mad, deep kind. She’s given up on finding it, at least until she leaves for college because she’s certain that is where she’ll find the ideal guy to fit into her perfect world. Her summer plans include nothing more than three uneventful months of fun but it turns out to be anything but ordinary when Payton meets Nick Hawke, one of Jesse’s old Collinsville friends. She’s shocked by her immediate and intense attraction for “Hawke” because nothing about him is on her checklist for the perfect love. Sure, he’s hot and sexy but he comes from Collinsville and that is definitely not on her list of prerequisites. Everything about him makes Payton’s heart speed. He’s exciting and dangerous but his fast car and chance taking aren't what scares Payton the most. It’s the way Nick Hawke makes her feel every time he looks at her. Can Payton find the courage to leave the safe, shallow end of love and risk going under completely?
Shallow is Book 2 of 2 in the Going Under Series but may be read as a stand alone. This is a second edition with new editing and added scenes.
This is a mature young adult/new adult novel and recommended for readers 16+ due to sexual content.

SUMMARY (50 words or less)
This story I think was better than the first. Not everyone talked in metaphors or rather smart ass talk. The story felt similar to the other one but different. It was hard to put down. I like how we got to see some of the characters in the first book.

I was sure I didn’t have a shot in hell at being what she wanted, yet I needed the confirmation in case I was wrong. “Tell me what you’re looking for.”
Her smile was breathtakingly beautiful. “I want truly, madly, deeply.”
This has to be one of the most .... most .... make-the-butterflies-in-your-stomach-fly-real-high book I read this year !!!! Le sigh , I'm in love with this book . Would I call it cheesy ? NOOO ! would I call it corny ? NEVER ! I just dont know what to call it ! Its yummy and delicious . Its makes me all warm and fluffy on the inside . Its just that perfect book that talks about feeling falling in love . Feeling all the heartaches and risks that comes with it . All I can sit here and do is sigh , sigh away happily and wipe away the tears that fell out of my eyes without me realizing that they were there in the first place .
Yes I very much need that ....

For those of you who've read
Going Under , you'll know that this is basically Payton's story . Who is Payton you ask ? Payton is Claire's best friend . And who is Claire you ask ? Obviously you need to read the first book first . Is it necessary ? I think it is , because Claire and Jessie are part of this book too and they are sweet as hell !!!
Payton for me in book 1 was that extraordinary BFF from hell who believes in you even when you dont and knows you better than you do yourself . But here , oh lord she is sooo someone I could be BFF's with ! I loved how she stood up for what she believes is right . Even if it meant going against her parents wishes .
Nick Hawke is what we would call a total bad boy . He loves to race , is always looking for an adrenaline rush and doesn't do relationships . He likes to live the fast life . That is until he meets Payton Archer . Payton is unlike any other girl Nick has ever met . She doesn't drool on his feet and is obviously not turned on by his flirty ways and charm . But things start to look better for the two when Nick realizes he is ready to change his ways for Payton and Payton sees a different Nick underneath all that flirting and teasing . But there are so many things waiting to tear them apart . There's a skanky ho who wont take no for an answer , and then there's the whole division of class and society thing . You know , 'you dont deserve to love someone just because you dont live in our uber rich yet hollow on the inside neighborhood and dont have as much as we do' thing !!! And I thought that , that happened only in India . But apparently haters and morons are everywhere and its inevitable to cross paths with them . You'll find one sooner or later !
This story bought out a lot of different emotions in me ! The beginning was all sweet and spice ! Nick constantly trying to woo Payton , but she refusing to budge from her stand . Then it got all soft and silky as Nick and Payton get to know each other and start defining their relationship and understand and explore each others feelings .And then things get all rough as they hit a block and everything seemed so wrong and undefined . This is the part where I was all an emotional mess . I guess I got too carried away in their relationship that it actually felt like I was watching my two best friends who love each other walk away from their feelings .
My favorite moment in the book is when Payton reads Nicks journal !!! I love that scene !
There's also a playlist at the end ! I love Georgia's taste in music ! Most of those songs were my favorite and it just made the reading experience a lot more exciting !!
A very sweet , emotional and touching story of two people falling in love against all the odd that life can possibly throw at you ! Its definitely a must read ! -
★★★★! Going Under series, book 1 & 2 (complete series). Cute YA coming-of-age stories - 2 privileged (girl) friends meet 2 guys from the “wrong side” of town.
Both books are entwined so I recommend reading them together as a set. To me this ended up one of those “feel good” series and I fell in love with all four protagonists. Both books have detailed descriptions to get you started. Here are my 2 cents:
Going under, Book 1
Jessie Boone (18 years/student/black hair/light blue eyes) is beyond wonderful (sigh!). Even though he grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and never had anyone caring for him he had a 4.0 GPA and phenomenal athletic skills upon starting his senior year of high school at East Franklin. There he meets Claire Elizabeth Deveraux (17 years/student/auburn hair/green-hazel eyes), who has so much spunk. I loved her strength and her wit, but it was Jessie who kept me reading. Because I needed something good to happen to him after everything he has had to endure. The dialogue/story came across as a bit immature at times, but I wrote it off as privileged kids who did not have to grow up too fast. The epilogue was sooo special.

Shallow, Book 2
The summer after high school graduation Claire’s friend Payton Caroline Archer (18 years/student heading to college/blond hair/amber eyes) meets Jessie ‘s childhood friend Nick Hawke (19 years/high school graduate-heading to police school/black hair/brown eyes) and the sparks fly. I fell in love with Payton in book one - she is so witty and truly the queen of comebacks:
”…I know the game like your crotch knows the palm of your hand and I definitely saw a move, so I’m giving you the luxury of a warning…” (book 1)
“…it’s clear that you plan on adding yourself to Miss Black Halter Top’s list of suspects for her next pregnancy scare…” (book 2)
Nick was just as hot as Jessie and equally adorable. It was nice to get to follow Jessie and Claire some more. Once again - loved the epilogue!

Would I recommend this series: Yes.
Would I re-read this series: Maybe later. -
Well I was right in thinking that Payton Archer would be a much better main character than Claire was. She's got a mouth on her and she can take it as well as she dishes it out. This story was pretty good. The main plot line was good and the romance was believable even.
Here is what I couldn't take-
The completely pornographic descriptions of sex between the two MC's. Sex should never be written that graphically in a YA novel, even an adult novel. It wasn't romantic, it was gross.
Why are 18 yr olds talking so much about having babies? They are 18. They should be going to college or getting a job for real life. Not talking about "Putting my babies in your belly"
Why are both boys the type that have slept with every girl in the city of Collinsville and both girls virgins?
Once again, the author completely jumped over a great story line, Nick and his mother. She described that as an aside and instead described the breaking of Payton's hymen. Which would have made a better story?
I am not a hard reviewer so I don't understand why everyone else is so in love with these stories when it seems like the author isn't going there. I was so disgusted with this one that I'll never read anything by her again. I wouldn't think describing sexual acts in great detail would be easier than following the storyline with Nick and his mother but I guess it was for her. Two stars was probably too generous for this.
Yes the romance was hot, but this isn't even what I would consider YA. Not with the amount of explicit sex in it. I don't recommend this one.
It kills me because the writer has the skills and the ideas, she just seems to swerve away from them. I'm done. -
I just finished reading Shallow. Nick was one of those d-bags that was gettin with the skanks. He had "Jedi sex Tricks" for goodness sakes. But then he meets Payton. She gives it to him in the rear, I mean she rears ends him, as in a car accident. Ha!!! Get out of the gutter people. Nick fell hard and fast for Payton. What's not to love about a southern girl with a smart mouth. I started stressing when things were getting too good between Payton and Nick. That's usually when crap hits the fan,and it does. The biggest skank comes back and dumps all over this beautiful love story. I loved the way the author made my tears of sadness turn right into tears of happiness. Nick's journal was one of my fave parts. I loved this book!
-
I was so excited that Payton got her own book. I loved her in Going Under and connected with her right away. I can think of a handful of characters I've identified with like Payton. She just drew me in. Payton is a solid character with a strong voice and personality.
Because Payton has a firm presence, I knew she would need a guy to keep up with her. So, when I met Nick Hawke *sigh*, I knew she met her match. Nick is cocky, snarky, and exudes sex appeal. But, he's also a lot deeper than I initially gave him credit for. He's not after Payton just for fun, he really wants her. Payton wants something special too. She sees what Claire has with Jessie and she wants to be loved and cherished like that too. She's skeptical that Nick is that guy for her.
Conflicted about her feelings, Payton tries to push Nick away. He's not having it though and is determined to make her see that their feelings are true. There are a few major complications that add to their struggle, but one thing is for sure...Nick loves Payton. I about died with his journal entries! *melts* Once she realizes that he won't give up on them, she owns her feelings. I loved seeing their love for each other grow.
Shallow made me laugh, cry, swoon, and cheer. I couldn't have been happier with how things turned out for Payton. I loved the epilogue. It was perfect. This series is a favorite of mine. It combines all the elements I love in a great series: strong characters, humor, steamy moments, and swoon worthy guys. If you are looking for a great romantic series to get lost in, the Going Under series is perfect for you! -
EJOYABLE BUT CLICHED
This is a straight forward classic romance, between the feisty heroine Payton Archer, and tattooed bad boy Nick Hawke. When Payton drives into the back of Nicks car on the way to watch a street race. She has no idea this gorgeous guy is one of the drivers in the race. Nick is friends with Jessie Boone the hero from the first book. Jessie warns Nick to stay away from Payton, she's not the usual type of girl he hooks up with. But that's easier said than done.
This is a pleasant enough read if a bit cliched. Both Nick and Payton are eighteen. He is from a poorer family, unlike Payton whose parents are rich, and will definitely disapprove of Nick. This is quite explicit sex wise. Which surprised me, as the first book Going Under was not. The characterisation is very good I really felt that I got to know Nick and Payton, and the side characters. The story was fairly straight forward, with one of Nick's ex-girlfriends trying to cause trouble. I might have given this a higher rating but it lacked that extra spark for me. And I am getting a little tired of the bad boy who has been through loads of women always landing the virgin! I certainly wasn't convinced that eighteen year olds would discuss marriage and having babies quite so much. Plus the story had too many similarities to the first book. But overall this was okay. -
4.5 Estrellas!!! -
You see.. Even Mary Poppins agrees, this book was fabulous! I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between Nick and Payton was off the charts and I loved that epilogue. It was great to see Jessie and Claire again, and I really hope for a third book, about Dane and Dallas because I can't get enough of this series! -
Some parts were a little bit cringe 😂 but I enjoyed it and Nick Hawke was so refreshingly emotionally vulnerable while managing to be a badass which is quite rare in NA books 😌
-
Holy hot chemistry! Nick and Payton are explosive. Cates takes her story writing up another notch in Shallow. I was not sure I could love Shallow more than I did Going Under, but I was wrong. Dead wrong! Shallow has it all, a female lead who doesn't take crap and tells it like it is, the bad boy *swoon*, enough sexual tension to drive you insane waiting on the first kiss, and even that manipulative nasty skank we all hate. Did I mention it is in both PoV, how awesome is that. Talk about an emotional roller coaster. One minute you will be all, awwwww, the next you will want to choke someone with extreme prejudice. Get ready to have your heart played with, Cates is a master at it.
Payton knows better than to get involved with a bad boy like Nick "Sex Tricks Jedi" She really does, but how can she resist all that sexiness. Impossible I tell you. Nick might be everything Payton doesn't want but he is everything she needs. That doesn't mean she is going to go down without a fight. I love how headstrong Payton is. She is no rich little princess. Payton has the mouth of a trucker and has no problem letting people know what she is thinking. My God some of the comments she comes up with are just unreal. I found myself laughing out loud very often. Stuff like this “Yeah, I’ve always been different. I tried being normal once. It was the worst five minutes of my life.” But one things is for sure, she has met her match in Nick.
Nick is, lets be honest, and bad boy man#$%&* But don't let that fool you into believing that he could care less about Payton. Nick is as fast with women as is his with his car. Which says a lot. But he has hit the end of the road, with a chance meeting with the mating of a Lexus and a Camaro. Nick is a guy who goes after what he wants, and he has no problem yanking out any barrier that gets in his way. But this time things are different. Payton is not just any other girl, she is THE one. Sure he might not know this at first sight, but he is not a dumb man, he figures it out fast. I could not help cheering Nick on, just waiting for that perfect moment to evolve into a HEA. Nick is sexy and he knows it, *breaks out into the wiggle, or maybe not* but deep down he is as insecure as the rest of us. Inside there is that voice telling him he is not good enough for Payton and because of this he suffers greatly. It takes a little interference from some family members to bring these two together, despite their stubbornness.
Shallow was a beautiful story about two very lost people who learn that maybe what they both needed was the one thing they didn't think they did. I loved watching Nick and Payton clash. If there ever was a more perfect couple other than Jessie and Claire, it is these two. Shallow was amazing, I loved every minute of it. I have my fingers crossed for a Dallas/Dane book. Please *puppy do eyes* Georgia Cates took your average run of the mill bad boy, princess story and turned it into something more. Something that will have you going back and reading their story over and over again. In other words, get it as soon as possible.

Shallow (Going under # 2)
Georgia Cates
Georgia .. Oh Georgia , sweet sweet Georgia Thank you!!! My life is better because your beautiful mind created one fabulous Nick Hawke, and Sassy Payton Archer. Wowza! Yes that is what this book did.. Wowza!
Payton is friends with Claire.( book 1) She wants what Claire and our other bad boy we live to love Jessie have.. Love!
I was worried at first since I always worry when second books focus on other characters. Although I felt like this worked well. I enjoyed the story and still had C & J too. Bonus score! Payton is smart mouthed, and has moxie to the max. Nick is bad boy not to be tamed. This leads to one thing..sassy banter, hot kisses and when they finally give in to one another love.
Georgia did not lead to love easy.. Oh no! Throw in parents ( mostly Mom) who DO not approve and one mega wow that makes you think NO way they are going to make it thru this. Yet they surprised me and the characters showed maturity and growth. I really enjoyed Dallas too.. She was a nice addition. She allowed us to have a link to nick.. It was nice to see him as a big brother. Finally when we get past all the ups and down.. Past girls, lies and good old stubborn behavior.. We have a nice love story. A love story with two people I want to root for, that I want to see happy ever after. I really suggest you read this one, laugh and scream right along with me. Now if you will excuse me Ginny is here and we are cooking.. Yummy! -
Shallow (Going Under #2) by Georgia Cates
Shallow is the second book in the Going Under series by Georgia Cates, the plot is a fun and enjoyable read. This is the first book I’ve read by Georgia Cates so of course I know have to go read Going Under soon. I really enjoyed Georgia’s writings and the story flows well I laughed out loud a few times and loved the Payton smart mouth and quick comebacks.
Payton Archer is one tough girl, says what she thinks and thinks she knows what she wants for her life. Then she meets Nick Hawke who is tall dark and handsome and did I mention the bad boy type. He is swoon worthy. Nick is instantly attracted to Payton and knows he wants her. Of course Payton knows Nick is a player and hates the fact that she is so attracted to him. Nick doesn’t give up though and Payton and Nick start a great romance. Things are not that easy though, many secrets are revealed, Nick’s missing mother, crazy ex-girlfriends who want Nick for herself. Nothing is easy for these two. In saying that this is a great read, you laugh, you may shed a tear and you fall in love with both Payton and Nick and want a happy ever after ending.
I have rated Shallow a 4 star rating and suggest if your reading my review you go look up Georgia Cates and start reading this series it’s worth every cent. I am a huge fan and cannot wait to read all her novels. -
It was going to be a five star yo until the last few pages.
I HATE epilogues. It ruins it for me. I like leaving the future up to the imagination. I like to believe what I want to believe not have an epilogue which makes that pointless.
Other than that I really enjoyed this book, more so than the first which is quite rare.
Nick was unbelievably sexy. I loved everything about him.
Payton what just a smart mouthed and a totally awesome heroin.
I loved the stupid random banter between them both. It was damn funny.
I hated Payton's parents, actually hated is an understatement I despised them.
Could you get parents any more stuck up their own asses. They were such snobs and Vivian her mother? What a ho-bag.
Tilly did regain some dignity at the end. I loved Dallas too. And seeing Claire and Jessie's life from Nick and Payton's POV rocked. Combing both books was genius. -
I loved and devoured every page of this book! When I thought nothing can beat Jessie & Claire's story, well I have it all wrong because Payton & Nick's story is much more sweet & romantic. But it doesnt mean I dont like Jessie Boone. I laughed out loud when there's this scene where Payton is still wooing/seducing Jessie to get bow chika wow wow with her. And the fact that Jessie's bad boy image can turn out to be a good boy to his vows to not do the "deed" itself.
Hands down to Ms. Georgia Cates for a wonderful amazing story. And I hope you write about Dane and Dallas' story for your third book ;) -
What a Beautiful, gorgeous, sweet, funny read xx
I enjoyed this book as much, if not a little more than the first one ! x
I loved the spark and the banter between 'Nick and Payton'
Nick's perfect transformation from 'Bad Boy' to oh so attentive Romantic Hero xx
Oh..... And Nick's Journal..... Aaawwwwww xx
I knew there was a twist coming in the middle.... BUT hadn't quite seen that one coming !!!!?
All in all... a great read xx -
another fun read! love Payton!
-
"Look, this bitch doesn't want to be one of your 99 problems, so can you please cage the rage before I have to activate the Bat Shit signal?" - Payton
This books picks up 2 weeks after high school graduation from the last book
Going Under.
It starts off with Payton, Claire and Jessie heading to Collinsville to watch an illegal street race their friend Dane is in, against Jessie's old friend Nick Hawke.
Jessie always the good-bad guy warns Payton:
"No Hawke was always the favorite among the chicks, They love his pretty face, I swear he can sweet talk his way unto any girl's pants, so I want you to keep your distance from him. I don't want you falling for any of this Jedi sex tricks."
The Jedi sex tricks comment throws Payton and she accidentally hits the car in front of her.
Yep, you guessed it. She hit Hawke. She just doesnt know it's him. Just the most gorgeous guy she's ever seen. After a lot of "Flanter"
Hawke talks her into taking bet. To spend the night with him. She agrees to it.
Then finds out it's Hawke....
The fun begins from there!
In typical YA form, there is a lot of fun, Payton's smart ass comments, but Nick gives back as good as she gives.
They fall hard for each other, BUT Nick is a playah. Payton is not what he's used too, she hold her own though! and scares off any competition. He's the first to fall for her, and he has no idea what he's doing as he's used to them just dropping there pants and effin off. He wants her to be around for a LONG time.
BUT of course it wouldn't be a fiction novel if there wasn't some reason that they couldn't be together!
After all she is a rich girl and he's the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks.
Their parents don't want them to be together, but they find a way around that. Until of course a massive bomb is dropped! That Payton just can't get past.
..............
I realize the story has been done to death but I still really enjoyed this. I actually think I liked it better than Jessie and Claire's story. Jess and Claire do play a big part in this story so we get to know what happens with them as well.
The secondary characters are great, especially Dallas and Ginny.
Payton's parents on the other hand... Ugh.. What horrible people! People like that should not be able to have children!
Some reviews on here have mentioned that they didn't like the epilogue. For anyone that knows me, you know I am a massive fan of them. I thought this one was great how it tied into the First Epilogue, and that we got to see there HEA.
I found this pic. And even though it's black and white I can tell that it's Nick with his dark eyes, that "sparkle" with humor all the time. So this was my Nick
As with the first book Payton says some amazing stuff that made me giggle.. Like when she warned off the girl at the supermarket that was approaching Nick
"It's true, he gave my friend the crabs and it took weeks for her to get rid of them. She didn't know what it was ad someone told her the only way to get rid of them was to put alcohol on them. Let's just say that everyone in a five mile radius had to cover their ears. I don't care how hot he is, no guy is worth the crabs."
"Gee thanks for the heads up."
"No problems chicks before dicks, am I right?" - Payton
“Love is delicate as glass; once broken it can be fixed, but there will always be cracks.” - Nick's Tattoo
“Hey self, Stop having a lady boner moment!” - Payton
“Why be difficult, when with only a little bit of effort, you can be impossible?” - Payton
“Yeah, I've always been different. I tried being normal once. It was the worst five minutes of my life.- Payton
"Yeah, you can say I'm musically slutty. My taste in music gets around. " -Payton
"I should have known when you swept me off my feet that I was in the perfect position for you to drop me on my ass." - Payton -
Let me begin by saying what a huge Georgia Cates fan I am. I absolutely fell in love with Jessie Boone in Going Under. Jessie and Claire's story was amazing. Payton Archer is Claire's best friend, and Shallow is Payton and Nick's story, which is amazing. This book is so good. I loved Payton's character in Going Under and was so excited when I found out there was going to be a book about her. She is snarky, outspoken, not easily intimated, and used to getting her way. She is not afraid to say what she thinks, and as a matter of fact, she does that quite often. Nick Hawke is hotness personified. He is another one of those bad boys you can't resist. He's used to getting his way to, he's not used to being told no, especially by a girl, and he has decided he wants Payton. Little does he realize, he has met in match in Payton Archer. Payton has already been warned by Jessie about Nick Hawke. Turns out he is quite the ladies man. Jessie told her, "I don't want you falling for any of his Jedi sex tricks."
Despite Nick's hotness, Payton has already decided that he is a man-whore and a playah - and there is no way he's getting anywhere near her panties. Nick, however, wants more than getting into Payton's panties, a whole lot more, and he doesn't give up easily. He thinks Payton is the most beautiful girl he's ever seen, and her smart ass attitude and the fact that she isn't afraid to put him in his place, only adds fuel to the fire. Try as she may, Payton can't deny her attraction to Nick any more that she can deny her need to breathe. The chemistry between these two is off the charts. Nick finds himself in a position he never has before, he is actually falling hard for this girl, and she is so not what he expected. He is determined to make her see that he isn't what she thinks he is, and that his intentions are sincere. Payton is falling equally hard for Nick, and he is definitely not what she had in plan for her future. He's from Collinsville, he's tattooed, and his family doesn't come from money. Nevertheless, love always finds a way. These two face opposition on both sides. Payton's parents definitely don't want her around Nick because they don't think he is good enough, and Nick's father doesn't want him with Payton, because he is afraid she'll break his heart, or at least that is the reason he gives. When Nick's past comes back to haunt him, he faces losing the only girl he'll ever love forever, and Payton faces her greatest fear, a broken heart, not to mention some rather unpleasant secrets in her own family. Will these two be able to make it, or is this going to be an epic fail?
This book ranks up there with my all-time favorites, and one that has made in into that special list called to be read again. I just fell in love with this story and I truly loved everything about it. The characters are great. I was hooked from page one and didn't want to put the book down. The romance was hot and there was plenty of humor, but also a serious side. Payton Archer is one of those characters you will never forget, and Nick Hawke is one of those hotties you dream about. Georgia ends this story so well. I just love epilogues and this book has a great one. Georgia Cates has yet again produced another 5-star read that is outstanding. If you are a lover of contemporary romance, then this is one book you won't want to miss.
Favorite Quotes:
Oh. My. Gosh. I just mated my Lexus with a P.O.S. Camaro being driven by quite possibly the hottest guy I'd ever seen.
Hey, Self! Stop having a lady boner moment! This guy is trying to coerce you into a date by the means of a threat. Don't crack just because he is eye candy.
“Love is delicate as glass; once broken it can be fixed, but there will always be cracks.”
Her smile was breathtakingly beautiful, "I want truly, madly, deeply." -

http://sarainbooklandblog.blogspot.it...
Shallow is the story of two teenagers, Payton and Nick, who accidentally meet due to a car accident: since that day they couldn't remove each other from their mind. Nick has always been a Playah, the typical guy who has always played with girls without caring about the consequences; Payton instead is a direct and impulsive girl, with a breastplate of iron but a very sensitive and tender heart. It is she, with her directness and impulsiveness who will upset Nick's world; but can Nick forget all about his past and move on? Or will the past overwhelm him, ruining his plans?
I really liked Shallow: it was fluent, funny, romantic and captivating. I think the author has done an amazing work in describing the love between Payton and Nick because it was so dynamic that I found myself completely caught by the story; infact I finished the book in three days: I've read it during school lessons, on the bus, at work, everywhere! I'm really surpised by the effect this book had on me because I usually don't like love stories, but this one was different: it felt authentic, sincere, spontaneous. Even if, sometimes I didn't like how melodramatic Nick/Payton seemed; I thought that some phrases were too serious to be said by a teenager of about 18 years. Speaking of authenticity, I liked the fact that the author remained down-to-earth, meaning, that often love stories are set in unlikely circumstances, that make you dream for a while, but then you have to realise something like that can never happen to you. The love story of Payton and Nick instead, is within the reach of all: it's the story of two teens who casually meet, like each other and arrange to meet, even if with some difficulties in the middle. I mean, to those can't happen something like this? (:
One particular part of the book that I loved was the final part, in which Payton reads and comments Nick's diary; I thought it was ingenious! During the book there is no lack of descriptions of the psycology of the characters, but the reading of the diary completely shows to the readers the true feelings of the characters, their suffering, their reactions, their past.
Speaking of the characters, I really liked Payton personality because I really think we have something in common: I'm know for being just as impulsive as her (if not more!) and for using a really strong language, sometimes. But I also know that this is just a facade, instead; it is evident that Payton's personality has been greatly influenced by the scars of the past. In this case, a bad break-up has deeply marked her and threatened to influence her following relationships. For this reason, she finds it hard to trust Nick, at the beginning, and the minimal hint of his past is enough to make her take a step back.
Nick is a little stereotyped, in my opinion, so I was not as impressed by his character as for Payton's. As always he's the bad guy who is suddenly changed by the meeting with a girl, who dares to refuse him for the first time; this wound him up in the pride and the hunt for Payton becomes a sort of a personal challenge; he will soon realise it is not just this. What I liked about him is his fragility: infact, once he's in love, there's nothing left of his bad boy previous attitude and he's completely vulnerable. Oh, adorable! I know I've said he may seem a little stereotyped but I know for real that this is what usually happens to guys and this is exactly why I think the author has done an amazing work in describing an everyday story, but not without adding that little touch of magic and uniqueness. -
So I stared this around 10PM and finished around 3:30A...did I like? I would say YES!!!

I’m going to try to be as shallow as possible in my review of Shallow by Geogia Caites...
Here are gorgeous people:
[image error]Georgia Cates has done it again! First I would like to thank AToMR for allowing me to read an ARC copy of Shallow and allowing me to be a part of this tour. I read Going Under and after reading it I needed more! I love Claire and Jessie's story so when I found out Georgia was doing another book but it was going to be about Payton and Nick I was jumping like a crazy women in my living room.
This story has the same elements as Going Under did but different in so many ways. Payton is Jessies BFF from hell in the first book so when we read about her I was laughing so hard I was crying. As some of you know Payton is all about the status and finding Mr right and Mr rich. She has standards and she is not lowering them no matter what. That is until she meets Mr bad boy Nick Hawke. He is everything she is not looking for so when she starts to have these feelings she is not sure what the heck is going on.
Payton thinks she is going to have a boring summer. She is just buying her time until she goes to college and meets Mr Right. So when she meets Jessie's friend Nick she is in complete shock and annoyed at herself because he is so wrong for her and her status. But the heart wants what the heart wants and she finds herself wanting Nick more and more. So much so she is willing to fight her parents or anyone who will try and come between the two. She knows he is not from money but money is not everything especially when your heart is screaming to love how it wants to love. This is a new experience for Payton and she soon finds out what Claire went through when she first started having feelings for Jessie.
Nick oh man I LOVE my bad boys! Nick is bad in so many ways but he is determined not to follow in his fathers footsteps. His mother walked out on them and left them to fend for themselves. Nick loves his fast cars and loves his girls faster. He only does one night stands because he will not end up with a broken heart like his father did. So when he meets Payton he is totally blown away by her. He knows he should stay away from her but he can't. He has finally meet his match with Payton because she will not take his crap and she does not fall for his games. Nick knows he has met the one but being afraid is keeping him from perusing her. In the end the heart wants what the heart wants. But will that be enough for Nick to open his heart up?
This is such a great story of love and trust and finding your soul mate even when you think it is impossible. Love knows what it wants and sometimes we don't get to chose who we love. So we must go with the flow and open up. Money is not everything because it comes and it goes so when the money is gone is the heart gone to? Georgia Cates is an amazing writer and she draws you in and keeps you there the entire time. This is one series i will read and re-read for years to come!I am very, very disappointed.
I have read the first book in the series, Going Under. I had kinda liked it. So when I saw the name Georgia Cates I just downloaded it in my Kindle without thinking. What a mistake it was.
Nick is a creep. There is definitely no excuse for his behaviour. He consistently chases Payton and tries make her say yes to him regardless of how many times she has turned her down. The "no" does not register with him AT ALL. News Flash: Just because he is hot, does not mean anything he does will be acceptable. For gods sake, he practically snatches Payton away from a party after she says NO A COUPLE OF TIMES BECAUSE OOOOH HE IS SUCH A "PLAYAH" and so HOT OH MY F*CKINGGODD
AND PAYTON. Do you know what she does? After telling him NO four times, she suddenly changes her mind and TEXTS her friend instead of finding her to tell that she will be leaving the party with a guy she literally met 2 days ago to go to... Where? That's right, she has no idea. Oh, and she gets a text from her mom during the ride and OF COURSE she doesn't answer it because the mom will ruin all the fun she is apparently having.
I find it SICKENING when heroines go on and on about how hot the hero is. And of course, the heroine is drop dead gorgeous too and somehow single altough people tell her she is beautiful all the time and she "has very long lengs, have you seen them?" (FYI, Payton says this to Nick. Seriously?)
I miss this old-fashioned thing called common sense.
Also, Nick is a huge man-whore (Author's words, not mine) he has screwed so many girls up to date is that he lost count. Literally. And wanna guess what happens? He takes one look at Payton and her long, long legs and decides she is special. You can't believe how many times this word has been used during the %23 of the book. She is so special. She has a smart mouth, how special. She talks back to me, have you seen her specialness? So he decides he wants the "truly, deeply, madly" with Payton AFTER TWO DAYS OF HAVING KNOWN HER. HOW CAN ANYONE BE SO STUPID?
I rolled my eyes so much during reading. I couldn't even make it to the first kiss.
This book is ridiculous and completely excludes reality. We shouldn't be teaching girls to ride away with a guy just because he is good looking, as we are so often reminded. A jackass is a jackass, no matter the ambalage folks. If you are trying to understand whether or not a guy is a complete and utter creep, replace his pretty face with your grandpa's. See if his actions still seem cute when he loses his charm.
Don't read it. You'll do yourself a favor.Payton wants a guy like her best friend’s boyfriend, Jessie. She wants someone that will give her the moon and the stars. She wants truly, madly, deeply. Nick is always looking for his next lay. But something changed in him the night this beautiful girl rear ends his car. He is totally smitten. Could Payton be the one to change Nick from ‘playah’ to boyfriend? Can Nick be the one to give Payton everything she has ever wanted? Can Payton learn to let go others expectations for her life and just live her own life?
I thought I loved Going Under, even without it being a mermaid story. (To understand that comment you will have to read my review of Going Under.) I even thought I loved Payton in Going Under, with her sarcastic smart mouth. But I had no idea that I would love her love her in Shallow, but she ended up blowing me away. That girl is something else: witty, smart, beautiful. Yep, Nick is going to have his hands full with her.
Nick was also just as great. I love that he is so smart, fabulously good looking, and knows what he wants to do with his life. He is not the bad boy per say, he just gets around...quite a bit. So he has earned that bad boy reputation. At least when Payton comes charging into his life, he realizes he doesn't want that reputation any more. And what girl wouldn't want to be the one to change a guy from player to the totally faithful boyfriend?
So yeah, I am certainly diggin a certain author right now. Like a lot! Georgia absolutely gets it when it comes to teens. She knows how they think, how they should act, what they are feeling. And she writes it out and makes the story believable. I think I could be happy reading her books over and over again. Now I need more of these characters from this series. So get busy woman…write me some more stories! Trust me peoples you are gonna love this series. So get on it and read it...like now!
Fav quotes...
I was sure I didn't have a shot in hell at being what she wanted, yet I needed the confirmation in case I was wrong. "Tell me what you're looking for."
Her smile was breathtakingly beautiful. "I want truly, madly, deeply."
*****
He reached for my hand, pulled me inside his house and shut the door. He put his hands around my waist and pulled me close. "Girl, I've missed you and I'm about to mess up your lip gloss."Shallow had everything I look for in a Mature YA/New Adult Romance; I loved the characters, was enveloped by the story line and it had just the right amount of hot romance. I felt this book the whole way through; I got to see the changes in two young adults, their hesitant relationship and how they dealt with other life stressors. I found myself smiling at times because of the sweetness between the two and near tears as the book took sad, angsty turns that made my heart drop.
To be honest, I didn’t think I was going to like Payton because she seemed a little snobby in Going Under and this book was titled Shallow so I was expecting her to be nothing but shallow. I was so wrong! She is beautiful and can have anything money can buy but she also cares deeply for her friends, follows her morals even when it costs her a boyfriend, and has a great sense of humor. I expected her to turn Nick down because he was not from her neighborhood but that was not a problem for her at all; it was his player reputation that was holding her back.
Nick is a player with a capital P. He doesn’t do relationships and he can’t give a number when asked how many girls he has been with. He was burned by the one woman who should love him unconditionally and it is extremely hard for him to trust anyone, especially females. I found Nick to be extremely sweet and considerate to those he cared about and when Payton popped up on his radar, he showed her that side of him and how can a girl resist a sweet, sexy, bad boy?
Their first meeting is pretty entertaining due to Payton’s wit and Nick’s cocky nature but I enjoyed seeing this side of them and then what they would eventually become. The have two distinctly different backgrounds but sometimes people can seem different and have things that bind them and make them more similar than they ever imagined. I absolutely fell in love with Payton and Nick!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves bad boys, great banter and the New Adult Genre.I loved Shallow even more than the first book, Going Under. Shallow can be read alone but I would recommend reading Going Under first so you can be introduced to Jessie and Claire. I loved Jessie and Claire and I didn't really think anyone could top them. I have such a soft spot for faux bad boys that have a sweet side- and Jessie did big time. So I thought there was no way that I would connect with Payton and Nick in the same way. But I was so very wrong. I liked Payton and Nick even MORE than Jessie and Claire, which is high praise from me.
Payton has such a smart mouth on her. Haha she cracked me up so many times. There were so many innuendos in Shallow that I lost count. I would say this is a book for a slightly older crowd because of that. Nick seemed like such a great guy. I know they described him as a player but I never really saw it except for in reference to his past. All I saw was a great, very sweet guy that was clearly in love with Payton. He made me smile. Plus, I totally want to drive his awesome car. The one thing I didn't like about Shallow was the over use of the word "playah". It is such a minor issue and it is the only complaint I have about the whole book, but I just didn't like the spelling of it. It kind of grated on my nerves when I read it, but other than that I fell head over heels in love with Shallow.
Georgia Cates did such an awesome job with this series. I would love to see another one for Dane. He is such a sweetie too! I would also really like to see a college years story featuring both couples (jessie, claire, payton and nick) That would be super exciting! Fans of contemporary romances need to read this series. I loved it. I totally got into the worlds of East Franklin and Collinsville. The split in point of views was perfectly done. It wasn't too quickly and it was very easy to follow who was speaking and all that. I was sad every time I had to put Shallow down to go do something else. I just wanted to keep reading. Shallow is a well executed romance and super fun to read.Payton Archer is a take no prisoners, lay it all out there kind of girl. Nick Hawke is a player and has had more than his fair share of female attention. Yet when the two meet, sparks fly and from then on, neither can get the other out of their mind.
Nick is an adrenalin junkie, and Payton is by no means backing down from the challenges he presents to her. But she also doesn't want to be just another notch on his bedpost. Add to that the pressure from her parents to stay away from him, and his mother issues, and it's a volatile combination. Payton and Nick must decide if they want to stay away, or explode with each other.
This book wasn't exactly a sequel to Going Under, it was more of a spin-off. The Payton in question is Claire's best friend from Going Under, whom I loved for her wit and quick, sarcastic insults. She definitely comes back with more in Shallow.
When they first meet, Nick is taken aback by Payton's attitude and simply her difference from every other conquest he's ever had. He makes a bet with her, and if she loses, she must go on a date with him. From there, the relationship moves pretty quickly, though I never felt that insta-love vibe.
I adore Payton so much. She is NEVER afraid to speak her mind, no matter to whom. There were several quotes from her that had me literally laughing out loud. But she's also quick tempered, and it doesn't take much for Nick's past to anger her.
The sexual energy between Nick and Payton was HOT, HOT, HOT! They are sexual opposites--Payton is a virgin, while Nick is the farthest thing from one. Despite that, I was really touched with how Nick went against his own personality to take his time with her.
I didn't feel like the drama in this book was on the same level as Going Under. Also, I thought the end moved pretty fast. I was a little annoyed by how little it took for Payton to believe and forgive Nick in the end.
This book drew me in right from the beginning and never let go. This is the fourth book I've read from Georgia Cates, and I am definitely a huge fan!!
