Memory and Agony: Dutch Stories from Indonesia Reviews
-
Just a few gems in this collection of largely mediocre stories, but together, they offer an insight into Dutch colonial memory of Indonesia before and after Indonesian independence and during the Japanese occupation of the colony.
Of particular note are a pair of stories by Maria Dermout (The Sirens; The Cannon), Spirits Around Parula by F. Springer and No-man's Land by Joke Muljono.
The highlight of the collection is Mr, Tamagashi, Interpreter by L.A. Koelewijn.
