This is an excellent little introduction to the two major ayahuasca religions of Brazil, especially in its ability to show structured and ritual features with relationship to music. The authors are also able to show in their final chapter ways both movements drew on similar musical traditions present before either organization emerged. They effectively convey that music is as much a part of the experience as anything else and that we cannot always parse out individual ritualized features.
