In this new title from The Global Fund for Children, readers learn the different ways kids from around the world can stay healthy. Photographs showcase children from Afghanistan washing their hands, a team of boys from Australia playing sports, a group of girls from Panama wearing their seatbelts. There are many ways kids can practice healthy living, no matter where they live.

In a foreword by Melinda French Gates, co-chair and trustee of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, readers are reminded that not all children are lucky enough to have access to clean water, or to receive vaccines regularly. Back matter includes further information about how to live healthy lives, and how kids can help to improve healthy living around the world so that more kids become healthy kids.

With the establishment of programs like First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative which emphasizes the significance of focusing on children’s health issues around the world, HEALTHY KIDS is a welcome addition that will help increase awareness of this important issue.

Healthy Kids (Global Fund for Children Books) Reviews

This book is so great for health and nutrition. It can be used as a window and mirror for children. I think that this book would be great for discussion about what the students do to keep healthy. The pictures give a great look into other cultures with the illustrations. Having a lesson about how to keep students healthy would be good after reading this book.

    Like
Children Just Like Me this is illustrated with photographs of kids from all over the world.

The text is about various things healthy kids do and need -- homes, hats, food, etc.

This was a cute book that gave us good fodder for discussion in storytime.

The books I’ve seen that Charlesbridge has done with the Global Fund for Children just blow me away. The photos are full of such joy, and they create an awareness of kids’ lives around the world. This one, Healthy Kids, features a short statement on each page or spread, like, “We exercise and play all kinds of sports,” or “We wear seat belts on the road, and helmets when we bike or scoot.” Then three or four images per spread illustrate the different ways kids around the world do that. From an infant getting examined in Uzbekistan to kids playing rugby (I think) in Australia, to a child in Nigeria under a mosquito sleeping net, we see lots of examples of happy kids staying safe and healthy in many different ways. Then back matter offers a bit more detail about the basic needs of kids everywhere. This is a perfect picture book to spark conversations about health and safety, but also cultural differences and similarities.

This book informs you about how all the kids in the world stay healthy by eating healthy, having access to clean water, living in safe homes, and sharing love.

I like that it shows real life pictures about how children live in other parts of the world that do not have a lot of resources. I think this book will make children appreciate what they have and that not every child has the advantage of what some might have. The illustrations are beautiful and really captivate how children live in other parts of the world. This would be a great book for children who are interested in learning about how other cultures are living and staying healthy. Overall, it is an awesome book for visual illustrations!

I'm really looking for ways to fit non-fiction books into my preschool story time and I thought this would work....not sure if the photos will be okay with the parents ;/
