This book is about a boy named Bobby. He is the only class clown in his class and gets in alot of trouble. It all starts when he puts vaseline on the door handle and the teacher touches it.He then had to go to the principals office because he didn't do his homework. Then one day he makes a bet with his friends that he could get the world record for not doing his homework. But while he was doing the bet he got sent to the principal's again for not doing his homework. He then finds out if he doesn't do his homework her will get sent to alternative school.
In the end the teacher gives him an assignment. He says that Bobby has to do a laugh off or a in other words a comedy contest. Will Bobby be able to come up with one or will he go to alternative school? -
I have recently finished "my life as a class clown", by Elizabeth Levy. It was so funny, that I couldn't stop laughing!!! I loved the part where Bobby (the main character) goes up on stage, and almost barfs!
It makes the whole comedy thing so much more funnier! I also like the part when his principal says, " I think of myself as a very funny person!" because everybody in his school is so afraid of the principal, including Bobby, and everybody's mouth drops open!! ( That one made me spit milk in my brother's face!) I recommend this book to anybody who likes sssssssssuuuuuppppppppeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrr funny books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Gonna be a read-aloud with my class. Honestly, this book holds up over 20 years.

This is a difficult book to rate because the rating depends on whether I look at it from the perspective of an adult or that of a kid. I thought the book did a nice job of showing how parents can affect how kids respond to others. However, I did not like how it ended. On the other hand, I can see how the ending is needed for the intended audience.

Funny and heartfelt. I wasn’t close to my father when I was a child. So I appreciated the relationship between the main character and his father and I like how they reconciled in the end. A good book. I enjoyed a lot of the jokes, especially being a teacher.

Bobby is your typical class clown, always cracking jokes, never doing his homework, and his best friend is goody-two-shoes, Janeen (yeah, she's a girl, and yes, the boys make fun of Bobby for it!)
Bobby's live is an uphill battle. His older brother, Jimmy, was sent to the "School for Intervention," and now that he's 18, Jimmy doesn't do much but get into even more trouble. Bobby's dad thinks Bobby is headed in the same direction as Jimmy. The Dad refuses to break his tough outer skin. Bobby's mom is the silent type. She doesn't know where she went "wrong," with her parenting. Bobby's savior is his Grandma who lives with his family. She is always there for positive encouragement. At school, when things just keep getting worse, Bobby is tested by his teacher, Mr. Matous (who has a soft spot for B.) When asked how to make the school better, Bobby answers that the school should have a "laugh off." (students vs. teachers/principal) Mr. Matous suggests Bobby coordinate the "Laugh Off," in turn for all his missing homework and misbehavior.
Bobby does pull off the Laugh Off with lots of help from Janeen, but you'll never guess who makes it to the finals! Underneath the humor in this story is a serious tale all too common when trying to get your parent's respect and learning to use your talents to a positive end. Highly recommended! -
The book My life as a fifth grade comedian is one of a kind. It's a Entertaining book that will laugh like a hyena all day long.Well I don't want to be here all day telling you how stupendous it is. Ok this book is about a boy who loves being the class clown, and his name is Bobby. His teacher Mr. Matous loves to be funny to,but he does not like it when Bobby is making jokes doing class. And with him doing the jokes in class which prevent him to do his work in class and his homework .It was the second day in a row,and that right there had him go to the principal's office. When he got there the principal was there and he had to sit down with her to talk about what is happening to him,and if he does not fix it he is going to School for Intervention like his brother who all so got kick out of the house. But lucky for Bobby his teacher is giving him a chance to redeem his self. And the way he is going to redeem him self is by doing a laugh-off to see who is the funniest in the school.Do you think he can redeem himself? My Life as a Fifth Grade Comedian book review
I believe that every person deserves a second chance in life, and luckily for Bobby so does Mr. Mataous, his teacher. In My Life as a Fifth Grade Comedian, Bobby is a very funny student, that is, if you think sarcasm is something to laugh at. Bobby often disrupts class by blurting out sarcastic jokes. Most teachers would not have patience for dealing with his rude remarks and send him to dr. Deal, the principal. In fact, Dr. Deal already threatened to send Bobby to the School of Intervention just like his older brother, Jimmy. Mr. Mataous realizes that Bobby is headed in the same direction as his older brother. Fortunately for Bobby, his teacher is compassionate and understands that Bobby has potential if he uses his sense of humor appropriately. Therefore, Mr. Matous introduces a plan to Bobby to set him on the straight and narrow path to responsible behavior. Will his plan work, or will Bobby be sent to the School of Intervention? -
The steady stream of jokes woven throughout will keep even a reluctant reader engaged, but the story is much more than a joke book, as it also skillfully addresses difficult home situations (Bobby's brother has been kicked out of the house and his father treats both of the boys with disrespect), and challenges at school (Bobby is goofing around at school much more than he is studying). Well-written and an easy, engaging read.

This is a very funny book. Yet it is filled with human understanding that relates to the young and no-so-young can enjoy.
-
Classic children's book, jokes are cheesy, but entertaining
