Connor Stark has foiled China’s efforts to change political landscapes twice before.
But China won’t let him do it again.
This time, they’ve set up an ambush for Stark and his private maritime security company (Highland Maritime Defense) to take the fall for a massacre at a Philippine Navy base on a remote island in the South China Sea.
When a nationwide blackout and assassination of the Philippine president occurs, one of the largest terrorist groups in the world take control of the island and take out Highland Maritime.
Stark’s ally, former Diplomatic Security Agent Damien Golzari, is on the trail of an illicit human trafficking network that leads back to the island Stark is defending. Meanwhile, National Security advisor CJ Sumner is helping the US President manage the international crisis and navigate the destabilization of the Far East.
As an international coalition of warships approaches the region, it may come head to head with China’s fleet and start World War III.
Unless Stark’s team can stand in their way.
The Philippine Pact: A Connor Stark Novel Reviews
-
Engaging and insightful for anyone operating within the Pacific theater. Reminiscent of the FICINT by P.W. Singer, Augustus Cole and the likes, The Philippine Pact gives readers a lot to think about across the spectrum of diplomatic, military, and law enforcement arms of maintaining global order. The author does a great job of evincing modern dilemmas with the current state of the United States, but strives to show hope through his development of stalwart characters. Only gave 4 stars due to some spelling and grammatical slips that I'm sure will be cleaned up in the next edition. Lastly, I'll be sure to pick up Berube's other two books!

B: The Philippine Pact-A Connor Stark Novel—This is the third novel in this series after a long break. The first two were published by the U.S. Naval Institute. The focus on the Philippines is timely given the current tensions in the South China Sea where China, in violation of international law and treaties China is signature to, is encroaching on the territorial waters of the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. Also, it’s a damn good naval shoot’em-up.
