Critical Reasoning & Philosophy has been praised as an innovative and clearly written handbook that teaches new philosophy students how to read, evaluate, and write in a critical manner. Concise, accessible language and ample use of examples and study modules help students gain the basic knowledge necessary to succeed in undergraduate philosophy courses, and to apply that knowledge to achieve success in other disciplines as well. With a reorganized presentation, fresh modules, new examples and illustrations, the second edition is even more clear and accessible to students.

Critical Reasoning \u0026 Philosophy: A Concise Guide to Reading, Evaluating, and Writing Philosophical Works Reviews

  • James O'Neill

An easy to read overview of how to read and write like a philosopher. Very useful section on how to rewrite and diagramme arguments. Teaches the main points of philosophical essay construction and composition and gives a brief description of logical fallacies to avoid and look out for. Useful for anyone new to a philosophy course or programme to give them an idea of philosophy essay writing when starting out. From what I've read philosophy courses don't provide this kind of insight and essay writing capabilities are taken for granted.
