"Lips red as rubies, hair dark as night. Drink your true love's blood, become the Vampire, Snow White."

EVERY THOUSAND YEARS THE VAMPIRE QUEEN SELECTS A NEW BODY, ALWAYS THE FAIREST IN THE LAND, AND THIS TIME SHE'S CHOSEN SNOW WHITE.

Snow White lives in Salem, Massachusetts with her dad, stepmother, and her cat, Gatsby. Her entire life she's been teased for her fairy tale name, and the fact that her seven best friends happen to be guys whose names begin with the same letters as the seven dwarves.

Everything changes two months before her sixteenth birthday. She's bitten by The Hunter, and transformed into a revenant—not quite human, not quite vampire.

Blood and Snow (Blood and Snow #1) Reviews

    1.5 Stars

This is a collective review for the first four books in the series.

Books like these make me want to smash my head on the wall repetitively because I cannot, just cannot, understand WHY this book has such high rating.

*bangs her head on the wall again*

I could not, at any given point in the story, understand Snow's reactions to events. How can somebody be so clueless? Really - the girl has no freaking idea what is going on and all explanations given to her ends up with her exploding off in a fit of temper which makes no sense whatsoever.

Oh, and the love story. If I had not been reading an ebook version of this book I cannot guarantee what I would've done to this book. It was a total WTF! thing. I was thinking Geeez Snow! Make up your mind already! I could not even figure out which of the guys were love interests and which were not. *facepalm*

You know what makes this worse? The book had such great potential. Snow White and vampires. Who could resist? I was expecting creepy vampires and an evil queen sending them to capture Snow. And action - all bloody and gory action. Instead, I got a book with pure and innocent Snow, who was clueless about all the guys around her tripping over their feet to get her *eyeroll* and of course her going on and on about her 1)Clumsiness, 2)Innocence, 3)Inexperience with boys (sound like someone, or someones, you know?). And don't even get me started on Charming! Or any of the dwarves who were all normal height. All vampire action I got on the book was love bites on the neck! FREAKING LOVE BITES!! *screams in frustration*

    I'm sorry, but I just... couldn't.

The most depressing thing is I am going to read the fifth installment because I am an idiot who likes to torture herself.

I know many people enjoyed this, but I'm not sure this story is for me. It managed to do every single thing I hate about some YA novels, but the premise was interesting, which is about its only saving grace right now with me. I'm putting the rest of these books (novellas really) on the bottom of my TBR pile where I will wait for the day I feel compelled to continue this story. Hopefully later parts will make me forgive this part because it has potential, but this was not it for me.

    What Did I Just Read?

No no no no. At first I was digging the idea of a Snow White meets vampires type of story but this was not executed well at all. It was all over the place. I mean there were so many different storylines that it really ended up not making sense. There should have been more time spent on world development and magic system development. I also don’t like that there were aspects of Japanese culture just thrown into the story for the hell of it. I don’t like when authors do that. Make it relevant to the story not just because it sounds cool to you. Smh. I won’t be continuing this series.

  • Jolene

Awful book. So many typos in it for it starters. Just another book about a teenage girl with low self esteem who all the other characters think is the next best thing since sliced bread, who then ends up being some lame supernatural chosen one. Vampire story was not interesting, and this is not a book for feminists. Snow makes out with one guy then repeatedly calls herself a slut because she likes a different guy. They also make a point of pointing out she dresses like a boy and how she should dress like a girl. Lame. 4 "novelettes" and nothing happens plot wise. I will not bother with any other even though they end on a cliff hanger.

I got the first four volumes for free on my Kindle, eager to read it because I loved the concept and I’m really into these modern twists on fairytales that I’ve been seeing lately. But after finishing the first one, I was sorely disappointed. I think the only good thing I can say about it was that it so short that it didn’t take me long to get through.

The protagonist, Snow, is the classic insecure, helpless girl that everyone just seems to fall all over and all the guys lust after, but she doesn’t realize it. It seems like in a lot of these books you either get a whiny, Mary Sue or an over-the-top bitch. I’m sorry, but can’t there be a happy medium between the two? A girl can have a rough edge without being a mean girl and she can also have insecurities without being a clueless little damsel

Then we have her seven male best friends who are all super into her and would do anything for her. That’s pretty much the only thing I can say about them because their personalities all seemed rather similar.
The story, overall, just didn’t grab me the way that I hoped it would. And the ending was pretty abrupt. I’m not sure if the next books are as short as the first one was, but I just don’t think I’ll ever have the desire to see where this one goes.

    Read this in the
Passionate Bites: Hot Tales of Vampire Romance anthology.
Blood and Snow is a unique blending of the Snow White fairy tale and a vampire romance... I am in for the next one! :-)

The challenge is determining what the next one is. The series isn't organized in GR. It was apparently first published as a serial, parts of which have been compiled into books or seasons. Book 1 is a compilation of Volumes 1 through 8. I need to find a reading order or guide...

  • Chrystal

This is not a book. This is a collection of some halfway thought out ideas for a new take on the vampire genre and put together as little short stories that together, sort of add up to a full book, except for the fact that things happen constantly in it with no rhyme or reason. There is no clear rise and fall of the action. The first four pieces were disjointed and confusing with far more questions being asked and never answered, but not in a good way. The cliffhanger ending is just sort of abrupt and should be compelling, in theory, but instead embodied everything that was frustrating about the novelettes as a whole. There was some potential in this book, however poorly executed, which is why it gets 2 stars from me. Moral of the story is that I should stop wasting my time reading crappy cheap novels on my kindle and should instead try something of quality.

Where to start...I've written 3 reviews of this already, but Goodreads ate them all when I hit save, so I don't have the heart for another. I really kinda hated this, so much of it is illogical and makes zero sense, and the rest is comprised of fairly horrible characterization. Imagine Twilight's Bella as an even klutzier, super-tomboyish, sparkly vampire, and you have the premise of this book. Only instead of werewolves and vampires, you have the 7 dwarves reimagined as teenage boys and Cinderella as Snow's fashionista BFF. In addition to being so klutzy that Workman feels like she has to remind us so practically every other page (seriously, it's a wonder she survived toddlerhood and has not plunged headfirst down every single flight of stairs she's ever encountered), Snow lives entirely by herself, in a house with an empty refrigerator and apparently no clothes of her own to speak of, since everything she wears ostensibly comes from the family of boys next door. Her father and stepmother seem to have moved to St. Bart's without her, leavng her without even an allowance, from what I can tell. None of which makes any sense. I don't quite detest this book (which is really 4 novellas combined), but I come awfully close. And after finishing 25% of it, I can tell you there's no way in hell I'm wasting my time on more of it. Don't even get me started on the whole Chace Charming thing, who may or may not turn out to be Snow's love interest or nemesis, since he made exactly one appearance (for about a page and a half) in the beginning of "book" 1.

"Lips red as rubies, hair dark as night. Drink your true love's blood, become the Vampire, Snow White."

Ovšem to není všechno. Těch kluků je 7 a každý z nich je /údajně/ podezřele pěkný. Nepříjemně to zavání něčím, co by se v budoucnu dalo nazvat "milostný osmiúhelník".
Potom jsem absolutně nepochopila smysl návštěvy u toho nemrtvého Japonce. Všechno to šlo strašně moc rychle. V jednu chvíli chlastá čaj, a pak se propadne do nějakého snu, kde ju okusuje upír. Pak zjistí, že nějaká supermocná a nejspíš i superšvihlá Vampire Queen is "craving for her body". No nenaštvalo by vás to? :D

Mimochodem, má první "kniha" v aj, kterou jsem přečetla celou :D

    description

I used "whispersync" to get through this story. While physically reading this book, it wasn't too bad. However, while listening to this book, it was horrendous. The narrator was so terrible she killed momentum, entertainment, and my interest. I should have just continued to read it, but I wanted to get it wrapped up.

As for the story itself, it wasn't awful. I don't think it quite reached it's potential, but it is a series, and it needs to keep readers coming back after each installment. The story was very juvenile, and although
RaShelle Workman was attempting to mash-up vampires with the idea of Snow White, there were a lot of characters to keep track of. I'm having a hard time following their motives and intentions.

Although this book wasn't for me, it very well could just be what someone else is looking for. Decide for yourself if you want to read this series, and if you choose to, read it don't listen.

I was so confused. There's the mc, her female best friend, her 7 male best friends and the new boy in school. At no point did I know who was who. Gave up at 12% before more characters came in to the story and pushed me over the edge. I wasn't really feeling the story either but I'm not sure if that was because it wasn't great writing or if I was just too confused. I'm sure some people would be less confused and enjoy it but it's not for me.

Salem, Massachusetts is a place where magic is expected to happen. But the uniquely named Snow White never imagines that such things will happen to her. Sure, she's constantly reminded of her fairy tale name, and it doesn't help that she has seven best guy friends. Her sixteenth birthday is rapidly approaching, and her weird dreams of being bitten by a vampire and eating a heart are only dreams.... Right?

    -----

Why must the books I've read lately make me agonize over a final rating? It's mentally exhausting. In a nutshell, this book kept my attention but not without a slew of bad writing and young adult cliches.

-This novella has managed to take all of my irritations about the young adult genre and bundle them up within its pages. Things such as:
    An instant blossoming love.
A plain character with a hot friend who is inexplicably still their friend.
    Writing. That. Looks. Like. This.
    A random vampire appears!
A character with only one parent
A girl who doesn't realize that boys are attracted to her until way late in the game

-There's also a few things within the writing that made me dislike this story. For instance, if I read about the scent of peppermint coming from a tea, or a boy, or anything one more time, I would have flipped my table. There was also way more talk about how the characters looked or dressed as opposed to their personality. It gave the book a shallow, plastic-y vibe to it, and I didn't learn anything about the characters at all. There were also instances of poor word choice, such as keys 'coincidentally' being on the wall marked "keys" and the quote "It's icky, and it makes me feel icky."

+That being said, I do like the concept of a Snow White vampire retelling. I love fairy tales, and I love vampires when their well written.

This book leaves a lot to be desired, and doesn't do the town of Salem justice. And yet, in spite all of the novella's shortcomings.... I still want to read the next one. The first one ends with a cliffhanger, and god damn it I invested that much time in reading it, and I want the whole story. It's for that reason, and that reason only, that this book gets two stars instead of one.

If you like young adult stories or fairy tale retellings, maybe you'll enjoy it. But, at this point in the Blood and Snow series (who knows, maybe it gets better?) I wouldn't really recommend it.

I got this the other day from Amazon for free. I thought this could be perfect for some reasons. First, I’ve never read a vampire book aside from Twilight! I don’t know, nothing’s compelled me to do so, yet. Second, I’ve never read a fairy tale retelling! I know, I’m missing a lot, aren’t I? And, of course, it’s free! So, I say, go for it!

I decided to read it while having a break from Norwegian Wood and 1984 (my current reads). I thought it’s perfect since it’ll be a fast read. Indeed, it is. But I think it’s a little too short. Everything happened so quickly, I didn’t have time to enjoy it.

I mentioned earlier that I’ve never read a fairy tale retelling. Hence, I didn’t really know what to expect. So, please tell me, since this is a retelling of Snow White, is the name of the protagonist supposed to be Snow White, too? And a guy with a last name Charming? That’s just a little overdone, don’t you think?

Anyway, I didn’t find Snow White here to be so much believable. For instance, her clumsiness was just too much and wasn’t so realistic. I just don’t buy her. On the other hand, I liked the elements of magic and vampires. Oh, and the inclusion of Japanese culture as well.

Though I didn’t really like the first part of this short story, it became a little interesting halfway through it. I must say, I was intrigued enough to want to read the next volume.

Story resides in none other than Salem Mass.
I swear the mention of a video store makes me sad, and its mentioned sorta often since it has a coffee shop as well so all of them go to get movies etc. I also find it adorable how all the boys crush on Snow yet shes quite oblivious to all of it until her and one of the boys starts to get more noticeable in asking her. Snow's this tomboy kinda girl (which I love, fits with me actually great since that was me through most of school). Rashelle's writing style is fluid and unique I can see her definitely being one of my favorite authors. Blood and Snow is a great start to possibly being one of my favorite and first serial series.
Will definitely be getting these on paperback ASAP :)

I felt there was a lot missing from this book, though there were several really good, creepy moments. I severely disliked the main character though and how the writer keeps repeating how ugly she thinks she is when she really is gorgeous etc. The mythology was very fragmented as well and needed a lot of unpacking. Yet, it was a mostly ok novelette and I must say I enjoyed reading it.

P.S. The thing with the names, thoug? Very obvious.

I purchased this YA read on Amazon the other day on a whim. It starts off slow, however, Workman offers new tidbits of info at just the right moments to maintain a steady flow. The pace is perfect. And there is always a new element being dropped into the storyline, making it much more complex than originally anticipated.

    My not-so-likes:
-I feel like the character Snow should be a little older. Maybe eighteen, but not fifteen. It just doesn't seem to fit that well. I still think her home life and abandonment issues would have survived a slight age bump. However, it is what it is, and it's not a deal breaker by any means.
-The main character's name. It is actually Snow White. That was really hard for my brain to grasp for, like, the first two volumes. But I eventually got over it and it just became part of the character.
-Volume one, BLOOD AND SNOW, is not a whole book. It just stops. There is no wrap up or lead-up to a big cliff-hanger. Had I only purchased volume one and got to this point -I won't lie- I would have been hot-damn pissed. NOT because of the length. Because, rather, I would have wanted to know immediately what was happening in the storyline and it would have killed me to wait. So, note to future readers, buying the volume 1-4 pack is best because you will want to read them in one sitting. (Or two, as was the case with me.)
-There are some odd comma placements happening. I won't lie. But they are not spontaneous. They won't jump out at you from a dark ally with a shiv. There is a pattern, and it is really not that distracting once you get into the rythm.

Workman knows how to tell a good story. I have never been one for fairytales, but the BLOOD AND SNOW series adds enough vampire action -which I adore and could never live without- and original ideas to create a rich world with characters that readers can't help but care for. Seriously, not once did I daydream about bludgeoning a character to death. They all bring something to the plot, especially Christopher. I have a cougar crush on Hunter Christopher.

So is this worth your time? I don't know, but it was sure as hell worth mine. So much, in fact, that I'm going to purchase volume five as soon as I finish this review.

With all of the recent Snow White hype, THIS is the original spin that should have been in theaters.

  • Celia Buell

I see idiotic characters all the time. I also see asshole characters all the time. But it takes a special kind of talent or lack thereof to write an MC who has all of those qualities and no others.

Disclaimer: I knew this would be terrible from the beginning. I don't read vampires or erotica, and there are very few ways the Snow White fairytale can be redeemed for me. I honestly just read this because it was short, free, and fit one of my challenges.

Blood and Snow is a modern-day retelling of Snow White, except that Snow White is a vampire and the second Snow White to be hunted by the vampire queen. Her best friend? Cindy, whose only defining trait is that she's said to look just like Cinderella.

If these characters sound too ridiculous to be true, that's a fair assessment. Snow White constantly ignores warnings from those attempting to help her, because of something that is clearly lust. She casts away the important people in her life multiple times, not because she has the typical protagonist's view of "I can do it on my own," but because she simply does not care, and would rather just be a normal teen and ignore the fact that she's a powerful vampire.

As for plot, that gets thrown out the window almost immediately as well, and there are many non sequiturs and time skips where important things definitely could have happened. This book leaves so much to be desired, but not at all in a "buy the next book immediately" way. Which is kind of a shame, since the sequel is only 99 cents, an amazing price to pay if I was at all emotionally invested in the book.

Blood and Snow was probably the first fairytale retelling I've read where I have absolutely NO interest in continuing the series. Although the author attempts to leave a cliffhanger, it isn't even a good one, and I don't see any way for the next book to be better (although to be fair, it can't possibly be worse).

  • ~Kate~

With this only being a series of short books this really does need to capture your interest straight away which it kind of did but it did take awhile to actually get to the point of the story which was a shame but maybe the next book will be better. I loved the idea of having the re-telling involving vampires but I did feel disappointed with the vampire side not coming until very close to the end. Instead of a book I felt like it was one long chapter just getting us introduced to everything and everyone.

I didn't feel like we had a good enough introduction to some of the characters. Snow White seemed nice but I don't think there was much to her character as of yet. Her seven best friends I really liked as they were funny and I would like to get to know them a bit better. Another friend of Snow was Cindy who I didn't really like she seemed a little too selfish but I'm hoping that will change in the next few books.

Overall I did like it I just felt it needed to be a bit longer so things would get explained a bit better.

  • ☆Stephanie☆

This was fun as an interactive, choose-your-own adventure game/book. You make choices, and you go along the story...I even died once! (Never eat the apple, Snow White!)
However, the book was juvenile and needed some editing. They made the voice first person but slipped up once in awhile and reverted to second person (“you said” instead of “I said”) which is fine with these kinds of stories, but it needs to be consistent.
Also, who names a character Professor Pops? I don’t care what he looks like, NO ONE is going to call someone “Professor Pops!” I would NEVER say that.
And a man that adopts seven boys? A single man? Someone is going to look into that...and never let it happen. Also, I know the character is “Snow White,” but don’t NAME HER SNOW WHITE. That’s just insane.
Fun to do to see what the choices lead to, but it was too short and too strange to be something I would continue reading without the game. The game made the book readable, and not vice versa.

  • Kayla

RaShelle Workman is one of my favorite authors. When I heard that she had a new series coming out, I moved up to the top of my to-read list. It definitely didn't disappoint. The book was a mix of Snow White and paranormal romance. It had the seven "dwarves", an evil queen, and a few other things that made it like the original Snow White. The book also had vampires in it, which created a nice twist. Only one thing disappointed me about the book. I wish Cindy would have been in it more. She is Snow's best friend and a very likable character. I hope to see more of her in book two. RaShelle Workman continues to be an incredible author. I can't wait for book two, Revenant Training, to come out. I am excited to see how the story progresses in the future.

  • Traci

    This was okay.

It seems a little harsh to say that I didn't really get a good feel for the characters in the short length I was given, but... well, I didn't really get a good feel for the characters in the short length I was given. I do want to read more and I've already started the second novella, though.

When I first started this, I thought it would be a bit more adult than it is. I don't have a problem with YA lit at all, which is what this clearly is, but from the first lines the characters were talking about sex dreams so I figured it'd be an adult book.

It looks like there are going to end up being a lot of fairy tales featured in this series, since Snow's bff is Cinderella...?

    Onward to novella #2.

Snow lives with her father and step-mother, next door to a family of 7 boys. When she starts having dreams about vampires though, she has no clue what is going on.
    What is happening to snow?

I actually enjoyed this book a lot more than I expected to. I thought Snow was okay, and I really like Gabe! I liked the little twists to the story, and I liked how fast paced it was. Will definitely be reading the next instalment now!
    Overall; better than expected,
    8 out of 10.

  • Brittney

Definitely interesting. I like that some aspects of the fairytale are incorporated into this series. For instance Snow White's best friends are seven guys that live next door and a girl named Cindy who seems a lot like Cinderella. Surprisingly I think that the vampire idea works really well for Snow White's story. And what Cindy ends up being is a nice twist on Cinderella. I think that this would have been better as a novel and I wish the author would have taken the time to make that happen. But I can't seem to stop reading so she must have done something right.

  • Marie Hall

Not bad. Different than what I'd expected. Though I sort of like that. However, I won't continue reading the series until it's done. With a novel I can do it, because the book has enough meat to keep me guessing, but these novelletes are just too short for me to have to wait months in between to just learn one new thing. So I'll wait till the series wraps before I come back for more. However, I really did enjoy this read. Workman is an author I'll keep a look out for in the future.

Snow White and her 7 best friends

I thoroughly enjoyed this book..I always loved the fairytale Snow White and the 7 dwarves. This book is a new twist on the fairytale. Snow White as a vampire. This book has non-stop action, magic, boy drama and first crush. I couldn't put this book down once I started reading. This book is a great read. It's also a series and I can't wait to read the next book.

I LOVE books that when i read the blurb (and reviews) makes me want to have it immediately even though i have like hundred or more books on my to-read shelf. This book was one of them and i am sooo glad i followed my instincts because it was a great read!! I just hate that i was so short. OF TO THE NEXT ONE!!
