Desilude-me que o interior do livro não seja também com páginas duras, pois a ideia que tinha era que o livro era todo em "cartão". (ISBN 0736421971)
Excepto isto, adorei!! 4 estrelas e não cinco, pela pequena desilusão.

I wonder why my family has the “Beauty And The Best” ‘Little Golden Book’ from 1991. Our youngest brother was 12 but that is still a child. Perhaps he was a fan. I’ll see what our Mom says. My spouse delights in animated films. It never interested me to see “Beauty And The Best”, even though I enjoyed others that came out after high school, like “Alladin” and “Jumanji”. I didn’t know if “Beauty And The Best” was a new story and Walt Disney film. It proceeds like a typical fairy tale, including a grimness that is the reason for my disinterest and half of why this storybook receives three stars. I won’t sit through a Father misjudged mentally, threatened politically, and pining for his Daughter.

The 2017 remake holds some interest, with Emma Watson starring in a non-cartoon ambiance. I love her. A glance answers my literature question. The authoress is Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot De Villeneuve 1740, published in “La Jeune Américaine Et Les Contes Marins”. A castle full of magic and incredible objects, all helpful but secretly needing Belle to save them, is stirring. Caring about a heart and soul is of course the important moral. Loyalty comes through too.

My criticism is that the predicaments were avoidable, so much so that how they veered, is starkly unnecessary and inadequately explained. Decisions are so far off the mark as to be unsupportable. A thug, Gaston, wanted to marry Belle but thought it intelligent to imprison her Father, or attack her new friend? Belle had the run of an empty castle but her Father searches for her in the snow? They would both be happy if they moved their scientist lodgings to a castle suite. Every page is drawn gorgeously by Ric González and Ron Dias, retold by Teddy Slater.

In a castle, high upon a hill, there lived a prince, a selfish prince who only considered women with a lasting beauty equal to his own, he was very handsome but extremely vain.
One dreary night, there was a great knock at his door, on opening it, he discovered an aged hag, who begged him for shelter from the storm and a little to eat, but the vain prince turned her out into the storm, for he could gain nothing from her. On being turned away, the aged hag fuelled by anger, transformed into a beautiful, young witch. She cast a spell upon the handsome prince, a spell that transformed him into an ugly beast, his personality now reflected by his appearance. The spell was signified by a rose, if the prince found true love before the last rose petal fell, he would be himself again, if he did not however, he would remain the beast for ever.
In a village close by, there lived a beautiful girl with an equally beautiful personality, her name was Belle. She found her solace in reading books, but her beauty invited the un-wanted advances of Gaston; a brute of a man who, alike the prince sought only after beauty and personal gain.
Belle's father is captured by the beast and in return for his safety, Belle offers herself to which the beast accepts reluctantly.
The beast could not fathom how any girl would love him and his horrid exterior because he had been the same before the spell had been cast. Eventually, he begins to fall in love with his prisoner who gradually shows him love in return. Before the last petal falls, they share an embrace so pure of love, so trivial of appearances, that the spell is broken! The story is weaved with magic, enchantment and the underlying message that beauty is what is on the inside.
    And that's all that matters!

    Happy Reading!

I read the Bahasa version. This story taught me so many things and probably one of my favourite Disney story.

Lesson number one: Never ignore or underestimate beggars because they either witches that'll turn your pretty face and hair into horns and full of fur or a billionaire doing a social experiment to see if you care about beggars.

Lesson number two: Don't marry a person because of their looks. Gaston is sure incredibly charming and muscular but he was a bad boy and my girl Bella doesn't deserve a bad boy. He only love Bella for her looks and God knows what he will do when they get old. And, he looks for Bella's weakness and makes it a weapon to win her heart, act insolent to her father, and huft, I hate guys that has no manners at all.

Lesson number three: Don't be afraid of beast. Spread some good deeds and you yourself will reap the goodness. Bella helped the conceited, arrogant prince to be a better person and to be honest, that's very brave. Every person has their own beauty whether from outside or within them. Don't be afraid of beasts because they could be a cursed prince, you never know.

    This story is enchanting.

I loved all these Disney books when I was a little kid and today I woke up and said to myself why not reread them! I will always stand by my opinion that you're never too old for kid's books!
It's actually funny watching how my mind changes throughout the years by reading the same book. For example instead of thinking about the love aspect of the story I wondered how could the horse come back to the place which frightened him so much. I know there is a lot of magic in the story, but please… this is impossible!
The Stockholm syndrome part of the story might be a bit disturbing but otherwise it wouldn't be much of a story, would it?

7/3/2021 I did not expect to have Thoughts on this but I have Thoughts! My kids loved it tho. Full review tk at
    TheFrumiousConsortium.net.

7/19/2021 When my middle child brought me this book to read aloud, no doubt gifted to my kids in a grab bag of books from my mother-in-law, I was pretty excited to do it. I grew up obsessed with my hardcover copy of Disney's Cinderella, and Beauty And The Beast was one of my favorite Disney movies. So Joseph and his older brother Jms cuddled up to me while I read them the Golden Book Disney version of the classic fairy tale.

And oh wow, were there lots of things here that I remembered quite differently! Granted, it's been decades since I've watched the movie, and I certainly did not bother to watch the live-action version, cute as Dan Stevens is. And media novelizations, as it were, always have a habit of flattening the nuance of the stories they're retelling. Not having the terrific tunes to sing along to certainly doesn't help either! So I was surprised by how little I remembered of the animated movie's actual plot, even as I questioned whether the things the book was choosing to emphasize were as egregiously told in the movie. Perhaps my hazy recollection softened the bad parts, but had I truly swallowed down misogyny so easily as a child?

Only one way to solve this conundrum: by putting on the movie once more. Even from watching the opening bit explaining the curse on the Prince who became a Beast, it's clear that a lot of nuance has been removed from the book adaptation. The words mean the same thing but they carry different inflections. In the book, it seems that the Prince is cursed because he's shallow, but in the movie, it's clear that he is being cursed for the cruelty that comes from his shallowness. And omg, the book's insistence that Belle is "not like other girls" made me question my entire liking for this movie: fortunately, my re-watch makes it clear that in the movie, she's not like anyone else in their small provincial town. It's weirdly reductive to limit the uniqueness of Belle's personality to a phrase that reeks of internalized misogyny, and frankly a bad lesson to teach young readers.

The book also neglects to lay the framework for why the town deems Belle's father mad, and how repulsive Gaston's personality is, so it just looks like the townies are worse than they really are. Everyone is just really flat in a way that I don't recall my beloved book adaptation of Cinderella being. Perhaps it's a case of the author thinking that using smaller and fewer words will get the gist of the story across better. And while my kids enjoyed my telling of the story -- complete with my asides of "Oh no, it isn't that Belle isn't like other girls, it's that she's so different from everyone else happy to live in their small country town" etc. -- I felt rather ill at ease knowing these illiberal ideas were being passed off as innocuous, even wholesome reading.

Disney's best movies succeed because they tell cute, sweet stories with fun music, and they're beloved because their tales are almost universally heartwarming, which you can't achieve without mindfully instilling nuance and empathy. This book, however, feels more like one of the tween mean girl Disney channel shows that I won't let my kids watch. It's not quite as bad as that, ofc, but I'm still glad I was around to provide commentary while introducing my kids to this story. Now I just have to persuade them to watch the movie again with me, for proper context, ofc.

This a great classical story that many have read growing up. This story is about a prince who was turned into a beast and lives alone in his castle. In this story there are many house hold items like tea cups, spoons, and candle holders all talk. Far from all this fictional characters the message in the story is great for children to learn about. It teaches us that beauty is not about appearance but what's with in, and you can't make assumptions on what you see.

You know, Beauty and The Beast is one of my favorite Disney's princess story still I have this question, especially for Belle....
' Although he provided you with everything(all those books too that one can dream only..) , still he caught you captive.... How is this a love when you don't have your own liberty??.........'

Such a sweet and beautiful telling of this classic story about realizing it's what's on the inside that counts.

2.5/5 -- Gets too caught up trying to cover plot minutia from the Disney movie, and neglects the core of the story. My 3-year-old, who has not seen the movie, struggled to follow this version and doesn't find it engaging. This is a poor independent version of the story and only functions if the reader is already very familiar with the Disney movie.

I read Disney’s Beauty and the Beast by Teddy Slater on a Disney Vintage channel on YouTube. This showed the book pages with no audio for me to read. I liked reading the book and being able to see the illustrations as well, but it was clearly a book from a small child because there were some marker coloring on the pages over text and some of the illustrations. This made only some of the text hard to read in the beginning and some of the illustrations were damaged.

This story follows the ‘original’ Beauty and Beast story from Disney’s perspective. It has the magic that many have seen in the movies with the enchanted mantle clock, teapot, and candelabra. It is told in the 3rd person narrative so the reader can see the perspective of Belle, Beast, Maurice (Belle’s father), and other characters throughout the text. Belle fights for her fathers’ freedom from the Beast’s capture and is then forced to stay in the castle with him forever. As their relationship builds, so does her longing to see her father again. Beast allows her to see her father in a magic mirror and allows her to go see him as well.

This story has the magic and cartoon drawings of your typical Disney story. Although it includes some anger and some fighting it is still portrayed as a fun children’s story.

    Commentary

Painting of Petrus Gonsalvus (c. 1580)
Tatar (2017) compares the tale to the theme of "animal brides and grooms" found in folklore throughout the world, pointing out that the French tale was specifically intended for the preparation of young girls in 18th century France for arranged marriages. The urban opening is unusual in fairy tales, as is the social class of the characters, neither royal nor peasants; it may reflect the social changes occurring at the time of its first writing.

Hamburger (2015) points out that the design of the Beast in the 1946 film adaptation by Jean Cocteau was inspired by the portrait of Petrus Gonsalvus, a native of Tenerife who suffered from hypertrichosis, causing an abnormal growth of hair on his face and other parts, and who came under the protection of the French king and married a beautiful Parisian woman named Catherine.

Beauty and The Beast is one of my all time favorite stories. It tells the tale of a young girl named Belle and how she goes to rescue her father from a creepy castle. In the castle there lives a vicious beast. Belle and the beast do not get along at first but over time they grow to love one another. Since the beast fell in love with Belle and she fell in love with him it broke the curse and the beast turned back into a human again and broke the curse. This is a timeless tale and teaches the lesson that beauty comes from the inside. Whats on the inside is what truly matters. The book has many powerful and touching themes including love, sacrifice, community and exile. I think this is a great story to share with children because it shows them how acts of kindness can go a long way and help change the heart of an individual. It also empowers women because we see Belle fighting to save her father and she sacrifices a lot in order to do so and also in order to help the beast.
