Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Disney's Wonderful World of Reading), Walt Disney Company
The Grimm fairy tale gets a Technicolor treatment in Disney's first animated feature. Jealous of Snow White's beauty, the wicked queen orders the murder of her innocent stepdaughter, but later discovers that Snow White is still alive and hiding in a cottage with seven friendly little miners. Disguising herself as a hag, the queen brings a poisoned apple to Snow White, who falls into a death-like sleep that can be broken only by a kiss from the prince.

why'd that prince go kiss her when he thought she thought she was dead? That's messed up!

Summary:
This is the traditional Disney story line of Snow White. A young girl is running away from a huntsman who is in search for her heart. She finds a cottage and decides to take shelter there. She soon realizes that seven little dwarfs live there too! They bond and soon after they became friends, Snow White is encountered with an old lady. This old lady offers her an apple, and she bites it. This was a poisonous apple and made Snow White go into a deep sleep. The only way she could awaken is by true love's kiss. She is asleep for a long time and she is eventually found by the prince! The price kisses her and she awakens from her slumber. They run off together to his castle.
Evaluation:
I used this book in a book study unit in my Kindergarten placement. It was a digital version of this story book. I rated this book with five stars, because it was a very good depiction of the tradition story of Snow White. Also, it was very easy for the students to understand and they loved seeing the dancing and singing animals.
Teaching Tip:
I used this in a book study unit. We read every version of Snow White and even the "Rose Red & Snow White" book. We compared the story lines and how the key components of the story did not differ too much. The teacher was teaching the students main idea, characters, setting, problem/solution, and lesson learned (moral). At the end of the unit, we had a popcorn party to view the Disney Snow White movie. As they watched the movie, we discussed each part of the story line and it's significance. -
I loved all these Disney books when I was a little kid and today I woke up and said to myself why not reread them! I will always stand by my opinion that you're never too old for kid's books! Mainly because of those gorgeous pictures :D
After reading through all these kid's books in one day I'm starting to realize that each book has some kind of disturbing element: Cinderella (child abuse), Sleeping Beauty (arranged marriage), Beauty and the Beast (Stockholm syndrome). But after all, Snow White wins the first place in this creepy contest and that is because of that kissing strangers element... Just why??? Couldn't she at least meet him before.
Also all the Disney stories lean very heavily on the instant love factor… which can be fun at first, but no really after a while :\ -
Read this book numerous times over the years and my children and grandchildren have all enjoyed this story. Recommended

This Disney story i used to make fun off but later I understand that hatred can do worse to you and mother when become jealous of your beauty then your life becomes really difficult and curses are worse thing and death is inevitable to all and wrong doings will not save you from it. Love find ways and destiny find you in ruins too.

I miss my childhood. A book to remember what will never return, but never be forgotten.

My daughter said this book and CD was lovely.
If you've seen the film then you know what to expect here. I let my nearly 6-year-old daughter listen to the CD whilst reading the book. The CD has two tracks which run 15-minutes in total. The first track is the reading of the story and has chimes ringing for when the page in the book needs to be turned. Track two of the CD is the classic Hi Ho song.
And the voices of the characters are like the ones in the film.
The book is well laid out with nice full page pictures running through with pages of text next to them with plenty of white around the text so that it isn't too much.
The CD itself fits into the front cover of the book with a plastic covering holding it in, and the book is hardcover too. This means it isn't as flimsy as some other books that come with CDs where the CD holder gets ripped out by little hands.
Most of all I think this book is ideal for girls who are familiar with the Snow White film and are learning to read, so that they can give their parents some quiet time as they go off somewhere to listen to the CD and read the book.
Might have to get the other ones in the series now. -
This is a Happy book and there is no need to feel Grumpy about it as it is just what Doc ordered and don't be Bashful abut saying so! And there's no need to think yourself Dopey ii you do enjoy it but if you do feel a little Sneezy, you certainly won't feel Sleepy as you enjoy the well-known story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Beautifully illustrated by the Walt Disney Studio (from the film it looks like) the wicked stepmother is jealous when the mirror she looks in says that Snow White is the fairest of them all and when she sees a handsome prince come along and pay attention to her that puts the tin hat on her emotions.
There was only one option, Snow White had to go! And go she did and found the dwarfs cottage, which she tidies up and lives happily with them - for a short time anyway. Because once stepmother gets news that she is still around she takes steps to change the situation. And she does with some heavy disguise and a magic spell.
But Snow White can't be got rid of that easily as the handsome [prince finds her again and, well, you know the rest and it is a Happy read! -
We own four of these little Disney books that retell the stories of movies, and this was the last one for me to read to Natalie. I didn't think the illustrations captured the beauty of the film as well in this one as in Sleeping Beauty, but they still tell the story well. I didn't like how Snow White was so trusting of the witch when she had just been warned about strangers. Also, of all the classic fairy tales, this one does have the most limited view of women - evil and vain or pretty, sweet homemakers. I felt the romance was more rushed than in the other classics as well, but maybe that is because there just isn't as much story to work with? Anyway, the adaption from film to movie was fine, the short comings I have are really just for the fairy tale itself.

I would recommend this book for the primary grades, second through third grade, due to the lengthy pages. I would categorize it as traditional literature fantasy.
This is a classic story that I grew up reading, and eventually watching. I always found it so interesting that she was comfortable walking into a random house. My parents always taught me the "stranger danger" phrase, so I would have never done that. I think that the dwarves are super cute, and they were always my favorite characters. It's crazy that there are so many alternative endings/versions of this story. This one is totally appropriate for children, but some are not. -
Someone who doesn't have the intense nostalgia that I have for this movie will probably be a bit bored. Most of the illustrations are rough black and white drawings from preproduction rather than full color illustrations. My one complaint is that the text on the page doesn't always really match up with the pictures. A lovely book and a lovely gift.
