Vuonna 1996 ilmestynyt Kreisland on Rosa Liksomin ensimmäinen romaani.

Crazeland Reviews

From one of my favourites of last year (Compartment no. 6) to one of my least favourites of the year so far, Rosa Liksom's debut just didn't do it for me. It has many applaudable merits, such as a strong and active female character in a story focused on a typically very male-dominated spheres (i.e. war, politics, history) and vice versa a subdued and homely male character. Moreover, Liksom also manages to convincingly employ strongly dialectic speech as a means of bringing the characters to life as well as adding that extra layer of kookiness to the mix. However, my main issue with the novel was the structure of the story: the overall story arc felt like a Jenga tower that just kept rising and rising as the story progressed, but at the same time it became more and more unstable. You know what will happen in the end.

All in all, Liksom's debut might have been a tad too parodistic and postmodern for my tastes. The novel has many similarities with Compartment no. 6, especially after one of the main characters takes to Soviet Union, only this time the story doesn't stick together. Nevertheless, I'm sure it'll suit readers who enjoy the dark twisted tales that mix both realism and parody.

A wonderful, completely wacky story that carries the reader through time and across many corners of the world. Quirky, sharp and delightfully satirical, “Crazeland” is an example of good Finnish magical realism.

It was sooo extremly boring :( That type of humor wasn't for me.
