Difficult questions will inevitably be asked of Church members, both by sincere seekers after truth and by people whose motives are to tear down the kingdom of God. In Getting at the Truth, Robert L. Millet demonstrates that we can reach out and build bridges of understanding with those of other beliefs without compromising what we know to be true. Our responsibility to be a leavening influence in society means we cannot completely avoid the troublesome issues of our world. This book helps us put many of those issues in context, clarifying our doctrines and showing how to respond to opposition most appropriately and peacefully.

In this book Robert L. Millet, a respected writer and former Dean of Religious Education at Brigham Young University, expounds on various doctrines of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It touches on all the topics you might expect if you're familiar with the church, its teachings, and the questions one might encounter from those of other faiths. Really, it primarily articulates questions and misconceptions he has encountered in his broad interactions with leaders of many other religions. Many of the topics covered have since been detailed in various essays on the church's website (see https://www.lds.org/topics/essays?lang=eng&old=true).

In the age of the internet, information, whether true or false, is at our fingertips. Robert Millet addresses many of the current questions and issues facing Latter Day Saint theology. I read this book at the same time I was reading the newly released volume 1 of Saints, produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Millet addressed many of the questions I felt arose from my study of church history. He also gave sound information on saying that there are some things we don't know.

This book is very informative not only for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but for all people. It clearly articulates the need for all Christians to look forward to working together, focusing on our shared beliefs rather than focusing on our differences.

With the rise of the internet, Latter-day Saints are becoming more and more exposed to criticism of their faith and beliefs. This book is an effort to counter that influence and deal with the most common accusations. It's a good effort and worth reading. More detailed information can be found at the Fairmormon website.

This is a fantastic book for LDS interested in defense of their faith or for those who may have some basic questions about LDS beliefs. There were a few instances where I wish he had gone into a little more detail. But all in all I think this is a great place to go for a beginning.

I enjoyed the book a lot. He had some very clear insights and did a lot of research. I appreciate what he did in answering many questions that people have about the church.
