After the hell of his childhood, Rory McFelan, alpha of the Sparrowhawks, determined never to mate or reproduce. That was before the Creator dropped one feisty, irritating human female with a scent his wolf wouldn’t let him ignore into his path right before a blue moon. In the few short days it took the blue moon to wane, Rory found himself mated with a pup on the way, and his mate gone.
Getting her back is the easy part. Keeping her is more difficult. He’ll have to fight demons – his and hers – his pack, her family, and an unknown enemy determined to destroy him, any way they can.
Claiming Shayla was instinct. It’s keeping her that’s proving to be a challenge.
Claiming Shayla (True Mates, #5) Reviews
-
Always feeling different from others, Shayla Morgan has gone out of her way to draw people to her quirky behavior and sharp sarcastic banter, rather than uncover the genius she is. This strategy has worked brilliantly in the past , until she goes head to head with Rory McFelan and in one mind-blowing moment spends her frustration with him in bed working it out of her system. Another brilliant plan goes by the wayside when Rory, who is Alpha of the Sparrowhawks informs her she is his mate, what’s a girl to do faced with a life altering statement, run.
Rory is tired of being patient, waiting for Shayla to come back. He has his own strategy in place to have her by his side and once he does he will make sure she never leaves again. Rory had never planned on taking a mate after his own painful childhood, but Shayla has him glad he did. At every turn the stubborn woman surprises him, pregnant with his pup, her strength is limitless and he finds himself falling hard for his mate. As a hidden threat seeks to break them apart, they must commit fully to one another to find the betrayer.

***One of my favorite rereads, Shayla and Rory are such a fun couple. Shayla is so badass, instant favor. -
Love this book!!!! the couple is perfect!!
Now my only problem is that I want a book of kian pleaseeeeee -
I'm giving this book a 3 star simply because I like the series. The storyline was good and I like how she brought in the other characters/family members from the other books in. Nice tie-in. However, for some reason this one tended to have way more sex scenes in it that the others. Some of it seemed a little pointless and I started skipping them to keep to the story. Yes I get mating heat, but it's past. Yes I get both of y'all are on love, but jeez!!! I also don't agree with the bossiness of her and her cousins at times, especially when dealing with pack issues. I really like how Shayla brought the brother out of his shell. Nice bonding moment. I would have like to have seen more of her wolf. She seemed like she would have been a force to behold, especially dealing with the other females in the pack. In all, I would recommend this book, but only if you are a fan of the series. Otherwise the redundancy of the sex scenes, though hot, will bore you. Can't wait until Kian's story!!! Yum, yummy. TTFN-Sandy

Excellent excellent read. Never having read any of this series or other books from this author I wasn't prepared for this. I bought it after accidentally coming across the blurb/teaser for it. I do admit that i put this book aside early on thinking it was just another cookie cutter alpha pack guy who gets his mate in his clutches and life goes on type of read. BUT. I am so glad I got back and stuck with it. I didn't expect the really STRONG female character, Shayla, would become one of my all time favorite fictional characters I've come across. If it was possible I'd challenge to be alpha-fem for HER!!!!!
This story is part of a series "True Mates." Not having read any of the previous books I can say it can be read as a stand alone story BUT characters from the previous books do make an appearance throughout so it would have been helpful to have read those previous installments. I didn't have a problem with this though as the author did an excellent job filling in the back stories of the players from the previous books but not to the point that I have to buy the back books in this series for more about them.
But back to this book. It has a really strong alpha vs mate chemistry. Shayla never turns her back on who she is or that Rory has met his match, he just doesn't know it yet. There's an awesome suspense aspect to this book that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out the 'who done it' before the author did the actual reveal. Of course I was wrong (I thought I was so smart that I had figured it out) and that is the best part of all. As to the erotica. Oh yes there's some well written and hot action that I got a thrill out of. And one particularly juicy scene that doesn't involve the central figures that have me anxiously waiting for that book to come out.
This is that unusual book that I am gushing over because it deserves to be gushed over. -
I really enjoyed this book. Shayla kept me laughing, sort of reminds me of me. Reading the series I loved the way it connection the dots and you got to know some of the characters back round so you could understand or not why they acted or was the way they were. Great book
-
this was definitely the book of the series. loved Nik and Shannon's story but this one took it to another level. i wasn't really sure when i started it that i would enjoy it as much as i did but i was pleasantly surprised. well worth the read

Any story that starts off with “She stood under the shower washing the musky scent of cum and sweat from her body.” can't help but grab your attention.
This type of story will make you reach for a glass of wine, and settle into your comfy chair to read. True Mates: Claiming is the sixth book in the True Mates series. It revolves around Shayla Morgan, a human who has mated a wolf shifter, Rory McFelan, during the frenzy of a blue moon. Shayla runs away from Rory leaving the town of Refuge and the only reason she comes back is for her cousin Kiesha’s wedding. Hoping she can avoid running into Rory while she’s there, Shayla plans to come into town and leave before he even knows she was there.
Now, we’re talking about an alpha wolf shifter who has found his true mate, there was no way she could come and go without his knowing. The moment he sees her and she him, she gets weak in the knees but he walks right up to her, grabs her and tosses her over his shoulder. She needs him so badly that she starts clawing at his back trying to get his shirt off so that she could touch his skin. The heat between them is palatable; you could feel it coming through the pages.
There is so much chemistry between these two characters I became completely engrossed in their story. This is a strong alpha male who mates with a strong alpha female and when these two come together there are fireworks.
The other characters in the book are from previous stories in the True Mates series. Every character in this book enhanced the story whether they were villain or hero. I loved how Shayla was expected to submit to her mate which she did but she did it on her own terms. She let him know that in some things she would submit but in others she was his equal. One of the best scenes in the book was when she shifted for the first time and her she wolf wanted her mate to prove he was worthy of her. She got him to completely lose control but also taught him that she was strong enough to be his alpha fem.
I hope Ms Wynn continues this series and that there's another book in the works, because I would love to see a continuation of their story. -
Description: When Shayla flees Refuge, North Carolina after an intense mating session with Rory McFelan, she thought she was done with the alpha of the Sparrowhawks. But as it turns out, she has to go back for her favorite cousin’s wedding. Also, she’s pregnant. And perhaps most importantly of all, Rory isn’t at all prepared to let her go.
The Good: As always, Ms. Wynn’s excels at introducing really hot sex into unique situations. There’s a lot going on in this book plot-wise: a rip-roaring romance, a meaty family mystery, and some seriously hardcore sex. Ms. Wynn really goes there — so sensitive readers, be warned. I was worried at points by how many balls she had going up in the air, but somehow she manages to juggle them and wrap it all up with a very satisfying conclusion. There’s also a character introduction that is so crazy-intriguing, you’ll be dying for him to get his own True Mates book. Hopefully it’s coming soon!
The Bad:Shayla as a character has serious “show vs. tell” problems. She’s supposed to be a genius, we never see her use her brain. At one point she proudly proclaims, “I won’t whine, mope, or sulk in some corner like a child” after spending several pages whining and moping around in a childish funk. She claims to be traumatized by growing up different, but we never see any evidence of this. In the end she feels like a collection of stated character traits that are never proven. To this point, many readers will figure out an important component of the mystery way before Shayla does, which brings us back to the genius issue.
Also, there are so many characters and POVs, it’s hard to keep them all straight. It’s a bit like watching TRUE BLOOD. In fact, even though she’s bi-racial (black and Asian), Shayla reminds me a bit of Rutina Wesley’s character, Tara — readers are either going to love her or hate her.
The Naughty: Erotic. Physical fighting between couple. Lots of exhibition. Sex while in werewolf form. Hardcore.
Editing issues: 4 typos found.
Publisher: Loose Id
Length: 274
Final Grade: B
Happy Reading,

I only give this 4 stars because it was a good book. The thing is poor Rory was dealt the worst hand possiable when given Shayla. On one hand she was perfect for him she matched him in intelligance, humor even though her sense of humor needed a lot of work, and cunning. But the poor thing had so many personality flaws that were just sad. I'm sorry who is scorned because a man can't handle how smart you are. In my experience people are not afraid of genius's that was her own ego and her poor opinion of everyone but herself. Her selfish streak was just unreal for me like her attempting to wear combact boots to her cousin's wedding. You don't pick a loved one's special day to show that your pissed off with the world. I spent most of the book feeling sad for Rory even though she did good deeds for him it was only after lying to him first. She also had a warped view of reality i just didn't get it she was the one that left him like a theif in the night and was always lying in my opinon. He was an open book but he was always making sure the world revolved around her but at no point did I really see her do the same. Even though the play between Shayla and Rory is sadly lacking the storyling isn't bad. The book is pretty good I would read it for the story not the couple and Rilley is super cool hope he gets a book.

Shayla annoyed me in previous books.
And for the first half of this book, I was annoyed by her.
I was annoyed that her story got the longest book in the series.
Shayla "I'm a genius! So no one understands me, and I need to be alternative by wearing cargo pants and boots and put hair dye in my hair... because I'm a genius!"
The amount of times she was called a genius... by herself! and others just made me roll my eyes.
Rory... meh. I didn't like him previously. I only casually liked him this time.
The villain... meh.
The Ashley plot... reallllllly meh.
Shayla being pregnant "I'd rather have my coffee, give me coffee" -.- fucking idiot. -
It was a long time since I have read a book that made me smile so much.
I liked all the characters and the storyline and practically everything. I don't have even one bad thing I can say about it.
Shayla had a sassy and funny attitude and she was baiting Rory all the time - to make him angry, or distract him or just for fun. She is one very lovable character.
Rory and Shayla are just made for each other and you can't have one boring minute with them.
It's a total recommendation to all shifter lovers. -
So i started this book knowing it was not book one of the series. I still really enjoy it, it was short , full of passion, action ,and funny moments. I liked the female main character a lot, she didn't take sh&T from on one :). After reading this book i am going to read book one because i actually really liked it. the other characters sound very interesting to, specially the vampire and she-wolf story. ;-)
If you have nothing to read and want some brain candy that will make you laugh then this book is for you. :) -
I'm in love with the True Mates series!❤️
I'm so glad Shayla and Rory finally got to live together as Alpha mates running The Sparrowhawks pack. And with a pup on the way they have to clean house before the birth of their daughter! Zena has written a hilariously funny story of two very stubbornly strong people with a lot of intrigue and great supporting characters! Zena Wynn you should write a Claiming Shayla part 2 the wedding featuring the drill sergeant Shayla's mom! I know it would be a great and very funny storyline. -
This was a wonderful continuation of both their protagonists' romance that started in "Nikolai's Wolf" and the series in general. I really enjoyed the interactions of Shayla and Rory. Both were butt-kickers in their own right and together made a fiery team. Hope to maybe see Kian's story one day. Can't wait for the next book in this series.
Ms. Wynn did another fabulous job:

This is the 1st ebook that I've managed to obtain a refund for.. I'm not saying that this book was horrible, but it just wasn't my cuppa..
Overall, there's something to be said about a writer who can compose a great story without needing a heavy handed dose of Erotica/Smut.
If the story cannot stand alone without the erotica, then essentially it's not worth it.
Giving this one: 2 1/2 stars... -
I enjoy paranormal books and can definitely say that this one was really good. Regardless of the author, the dynamics among a wolf pack has certain similarities and this did not disappoint. The power feud (silent) among certain members of the pack, mating and claiming of mates are the usual dynamics and this book gives a good depiction. I love Shayla as a female alpha leader, she's smart, witty and strong which makes her the perfect mate for an alpha and especially for Rory.
-
This was probably the second best book in the series, more background. I love when you know characters throughout a series and they begin to grow on you or with you as the story is told. This is one of those books. However I wanted to find out more about Wesley. I think things with him aren't done yet.
-
This was a great continuation to the True Mates series. Loved the chemistry between Shayla and Rory, and the introduction to the new characters. Kian was a great addition and I hope he gets his own story. Cannot wait until the next book!
-
Again Ms. Zena has put out another great read, for me, I so enjoyed Shayla and Rory's story just as much as I have enjoyed the other true mate stories, can't wait for the next installment of the series.
-
I can say one thing about this read LMAO from beginning and until the end. shayla is a minx through and through i don't know how her hero put up with her. anyway great story it almost every read genre you can think of romance horror ect.
-
When this first started off I felt like Shayla was very rude. Then as the book goes on I began to understand her personality. It was a good read and I really liked the bond they had. I'm glad things worked out as they did. The sex scenes was on point. This author is a winner.
-
Really Sexy Funny read! I especially fell in love a side character Kian. He seems soooo sweet! I hope that he gets his own story! ;-)
-
Love love love !!!!!! But what I really need is Kian !!! Dammmmmnn forget Rory I want Kian ... I hope he has his own novel ❤️
-
Good story, good plot twists, intrigue, characters are strong. I would definitely read more of this series.
-
I enjoyed this book so much. I love Shayla and her attitude. She makes a good alphas mate and also just a good partner. She makes him think about what he does.
The only reason this book really has 4 stars is because I expected a little more about Mary and Hugh, from [[ASIN:1606591371 Mary and the Bear]]. This is the book that started me reading Zena Wynn and I thought she would give a little more update for them.
Also Zena Wynn ended the book on a note that makes you wonder what happens next. I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger because there is some closure but I think she's leaving that for her next book.
Also note this books picks up after [[ASIN:B003F77CVK Nikolai's Wolf]] and should probably be read after that if you want full detail on Rory and Shayla. While recaps are given, there's a huge difference between and summary and reading for yourself. -
Not bad...
This one was not as good as the first.. I enjoyed it. Found myself laughing out loud at times. The only thing I did not like was how they mad out in front of the whole pack.. Like wtf... -
Addictive
There is only one book left in this series for me to read! I have enjoyed every minute of it. As always this story was captivating. Every true mate story takes a path of it’s own while intertwining with the others. Hats off to the authors. Keep them coming!
