To date, Steve Redgrave has won a record-breaking four Olympic gold medals and eight world championships for his spectacular rowing achievements, and is consequently regarded with awe by rivals, crew-mates and top sportsmen alike. Now, at the age of 38, Steve is bidding to win an unprecedented fifth gold medal at Sydney. Win or lose, it will mark the end of a remarkable twenty-three year long career. This autobiography discusses Redgrave's partnerships, the difficulty of maintaining a balanced family life, and the strain of battling against the odds with the debilitating diseases of both colitis and diabetes.

A Golden AgeSteve Redgrave The Autobiography Reviews

  • Alexander ter Hark

A detailed account of Steve's victories and personal life. Unfortunately, his writing skills don't match his prowess on the water as he repeats himself often and provides sometimes too detailed accounts of events.

Great if you want to know all about his rowing life, less so if you want to learn lessons on leadership or teamwork.

  • Richard Graveling

A good old-fashioned autobiography, you would probably have to be interested in rowing to find this as interesting as I did. Charts the progress of SG from schoolboy to his retirement. Compared to autobiographies from cyclists this is refreshing; some accounts about the political position within this amateur sport in the 1970s and 80s were insightful and reflected fairly - this might not have been put as honestly in other books.

There is little arrogance in this book, and only improves the reader's perception of one of Britain's most successful sportspeople.
