Death Note, Vol. 7: Zero (Death Note #7), Tsugumi Ohba
Death Note is a Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The story follows Light Yagami, a teen genius who stumbles across a mysterious otherworldly notebook: the "Death Note", which belonged to the Shinigami Ryuk, and grants the user the supernatural ability to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages. The series centers around Light's subsequent attempts to use the Death Note to carry out a world-wide massacre of individuals whom he deems morally unworthy of life to change the world into a Utopian society without crime, using the alias of a god-like vigilante named "Kira" (the Japanese transliteration of the English word: killer) and the subsequent efforts of an elite task-force of law enforcement officers, consisting of members of the Japanese police force, led by L, an enigmatic international detective whose past is shrouded in mystery, to apprehend him and end his reign of terror.

I'm with Caroline. First half was AMAZING, a continuation from Vol 6 which knocked my socks off, but as soon as L died and Light had no more opposition, both the format and the style changed. I was bored out of my mind for about twenty pages, which is the first time that happened this entire series. I have to say the art on the pages where L dies is STUNNING. The last look Light gives him, the glazing of the eyes, the last wavering where you still get the feeling that despite the fact he just killed him, L considers Light the best friend he ever had. (Okay okay maybe I'm reading a LITTLE too into this!) What I want to know though is why REM would kill herself for Misa? I mean when she first said she would it felt more believable, but Misa and REM's connection hardly held strong anymore. Meh, who knows.

BIGGER PET PEEVE: GAH!! I AM GETTING SO PISSED AT THE PORTRAYAL OF WOMEN IN THIS...or maybe even lack of portrayal. When the two successors of L stepped forward I thought "OH good, two genius women who will likely have fully formed characters! Finally!" BUT then I realized both were being referred to as "he". The only women in these books are victims, ditzes, smart-though-always-the-first-to-be-killed, or just plain ornaments in the backgrounds. It drives me CRAZY. Seriously. If there isn't a strong REAL female character by the end of all these books I am throwing them all out a window.

Woah! That definitely shook things up. I'm glad all the building up in the previous volumes had some release. Now I'm excited to see where the story goes from here!

  • Manisha

I cannot believe the thing that happened, actually happened. It's amazing how the story is continuing after this.

(I am unhappy. So. Very. Unhappy)

Not to mention, the evil little grin Light gives after something happens.

  • Mza

Even just looking at my face while I am reading Death Note could be considered a spoiler.

  • Tanu

This was NOT what I was anticipating! I had no idea what I was getting myself into! I'm not sure I agree with where this is going.

"What just happened?" I wondered as I finished the book. WHY DID THIS TAKE PLACE???

    Holy crapppp.

The new characters are interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing how they pan out too + their relationship to L. And what does L stand for, anyway? It's like M or Q from James Bond.

    Aaaannnd L's dead. :(

Bu cildin adı 'Sıfır'. Her şey sıfırdan başladı...

    WTF

    Seriously... What. The.F***.Was.The.Author.Thinking.

    I want:

    1. laydown in the same position as L is in the cover of this volume or
    2. destroy everything around me

I cannot stand reading/watching Death Note anymore. I absolutely hate Light and I absolutely despise Misa. Light is a fucking coward psychopath. Misa is the most stupid girl in the universe. And as they are the main characters now, with no Ryuuzaki behind them, there is no point in reading/watching this anymore.

This chapter ruined my weekend... I cried.. a lot :/

And I am not saying the manga is bad... it is still amazing, with so much suspense. Just... not for me anymore, as I can stand Light anymore and I've lost my dear L :(

    Spoilers

-It was great that Light finally got back his memories and the notebook, and all his past plotting and planning was fully revealed. He was more intelligent and cunning than I originally thought. He managed to play the long game and engineer things so he could come out on top. It was impressive how he predicted everything L would do, his plan worked perfectly. Although, it was pretty obvious that he only just managed to beat L, he'll have to be on top of his game all the time to carry on getting away with his crimes.

-Still loved Misa. I hated how Light was pulling her strings and playing her though. I really don't want her to end up being one of his victims.

-Liked that Ryuk was back, I missed his back and forth with Light.

-I was glad that L and Light's battle of wits ended, it went on for long enough. I guess it was sad that L died, but it was obvious that either him or Light would end up dead.

-The time jump and Light's new opponents, Near/the new L and Mello/the mafia, seemed promising. Hopefully, the both of them will be able to challenge Light even more than L ever did.

    Brilliant Volume!
I can't accept the fact that L is killed.
    I don't agree.

El mejor tomo que he leído hasta el momento, sencillamente maravilloso!🥰🥰

Zero is the tragic turning point of the entire Death Note series, and undoubtedly be best volume in the series thus far.

So much happens in this volume that it's hard to cover all it's facets, but it both pays off the previous volumes and sets a new direction for the series.

The return of Kira-Light sets in motion an explanation of his scheme on par with the climax of The Count of Monte Cristo. In fact, it actually elevates the quality of the previous two volumes, as every single piece I had issue with previously is not only explained, but fits in as an integral piece of Light's long-term diabolical plan. It's absolutely brilliantly written.

It is through the execution of this plan the Light crosses a line into a realm of pure evil. The climax of this volume is absolutely heart-wrenching and entirely divisive for the Death Note fan-base. I won't give it away here, but as hard as the twist hit me, I still found it necessary for the series, and the tragic web that closes between L, Light, Misa and Rem is perfectly plotted.

The passage of years is surprising, but also exciting for the future of the series.

A tragic, perfect volume. It's worth reading the whole series just to get to this point.

WOW! Tohle je fakt totální nářaz a bude ještě lepší!!!! --> To vypadá na takovou vražednou pařbu ve Vegas.
Btw Saju je docela kočka, byla by sranda, kdyby se dala dohromady třeba s Mellem.
Jo a Wedy a Aibera mi budou chybět :'(

  • Kübra Yağmur Aslanhan

Hiçbir yıldızı basmaya içim el vermiyor. :'(

  • نهى بسيوني

It was logical, I know but, L can't just die that easy! It was equivalent when both Light and L were competing but now, Light can't just win! Even if L is replaced by a successor who's just as smart as L once was.

Now I'll have to wait before I get back to the library and start Vol. 8!

  • Ananya

WTF?!?!?!?! WHY?!?!?! You can't do that... that just cannot happen. I refuse to accept that.
    WHy?!? *sobs*
me: "Please," -hiccup- "don't do this." -hiccup- "I think I am dying...."
