The New Astronomy Guide: Stargazing in the Digital Age Reviews

The final publication in a very long line of books written by Patrick Moore, who passed away last December aged 89. The co-author is fellow 'Sky at Night' presenter Pete Lawrence, who I strongly suspect has written most of this book.
Contains the usual astronomical information covering everything from the Earth/Moon data, through the Solar System, the Milky Way galaxy and beyond. In a book of just under two hundred pages, this is a fast ride. Astro books are being continually produced every year, and for the amateur astronomer I think there are better selections around.
Though Patrick Moore has been an icon of British amateur astronomy for many years, it is the contributions of Pete Lawrence here that give merit to this practical guide. His contributions of practical tips and insights to astro photography in the digital imaging age are what lifts this 2012 publication above the ordinary. Many photographic plates shown are his own, taken with a 14" CAT and either DSLR or CCD camera. Lawrence is a contributor to the BBC's 'Sky at Night' magazine which often features his photographic techniques of the night sky.
The final section, covering some eighty pages, provide a star atlas of both northern and southern hemispheres for the four seasons.
