A HIGHLY UNSUITABLE MATCH

When Alexander, Viscount Stewart, arrives on Emma Darling's doorstep, protesting his brother's engagement to her younger sister, she's furious! Emma cares not a jot that Alex is the heir to an earldom and she's a society unknown - how dares this high-handed gentleman meddle in her family's private affairs?

Buoyed up by anger, the last thing independent Emma nees is the realisation that she's developed an extremely inappropirate tendre for Alex himself. For if their younger siblings' match is considered unsuitable, a relationship between them is nigh unthinkable...

I might be completely over rating this book as it is the first Regency period novel I've read, but I really enjoyed it.
The characters were sensible (with regard to the period) rather than stupid which was a nice change and while the ending seemed a bit... rushed, I won't hold that against this book as lets face it, all Mills and Boon novels (or at least those I've read) have somewhat rushed endings. It comes with the territory.
I was surprised to feel like I wasn't reading a Mills and Boon book at all. Usually the females irritate me and the men are morons or tossers.
    I'd recommend it!

aaaand im out of my historical romance phase. it's mindboggling to me how this book had the perfect ingredients for a dramatic af romance and just executed it in the most boring manner possible. we had a whole love rectangle(?) with disapproving royal in laws, family drama, childhood betrothal, starcrossed lovers everywhere and it was all so tedious, total snooze-fest.

the most interesting character was the brother and i would've rather had the entire book based on his thing rather than his sisters. i appreciate the author not making the hero's fiancé a bitch but that's about it. the only reason i read this book so fast is because i was having quite possibly the worst day this entire year and no other way of passing each torturous second.

after two books in a row by this author, i can resolutely say she's not for me, especially since her main characters consistently seem to be the most passive characters in the entire story.

    Pleasant.

It's a bit spare-parts-regency in plotting. And has shades of P&P. Regency-type events, character tropes, and hurdles are all there.

Standard Harlequin rushed ending. Likable leads where the instant-attraction feels a bit hurried, or more, it arrives wholecloth immediately, which fine. It jarred them and woke them up to action and never altered. That was the theme here; people not questioning their life or expectations put on them until everything is upended by the someone/thing so unexpected it changes everything.

Very very happy epilogue (with which I have no complaint -- everyone super happy and super confident in that and super supportive of one another is why we read romance, right? at least that's part for me).

Didn't leave a strong impression beyond pleasant. But, pleasantly enjoyable.

    Inghilterra, inizio XIX secolo.

I enjoyed this story, but I think what got to me was the slightly overdone happy ending. All the families love each other so much, they all want to make each other happy. That is so not true and I think the happily ever after for everyone made it a bit less interesting for me. However, Emma and Alex were wonderful characters. I enjoyed seeing them fall for each other - inevitable really.

Though this book was ok the storyline felt way to neat and the ending rushed.

  • Audrey

I enjoyed. Regency Romance my secret vice lol.

A really good story. I love their integrity and the way they fight for what they feel is right. I also enjoyed the characters.
