Katie Smith is the best of her class, part of an elite hunting force trained to eliminate werewolves from the hills of Western Virginia. She's good at it because she has the kind of focus and drive that won't back down no matter how steep the odds. Call it southern sass. Whatever it is, there's no denying her willingness to risk everything for the only man she's ever cared about—a man on the verge of losing his very humanity. . .

“I believe I taught you not to swear at me. True?” She cleared her throat. “I’m not six years old anymore.” His lips tipped in almost a smile. “I know. And I guarantee when I spank you now, the end result will be much different than you throwing a stuffed pig at me and pouting for a week.”-Jordan and Katie
I have been waiting for Katie and Jordan's story since book one. Hot dayum talk about a sexy shifter romance. Rebecca Zanetti had been teasing me with sexual tension fulled bits of Katie and Jordan's relationship since Fated. I yearned for this book and it was so much better than I hoped. So it's been ten years since Katie has been infected with virus 27 causing her not to be able to shift. For the last ten years she has been hunting werewolves. Everything changes when the only man she ever loved, Jordan Alpha of the Pride, becomes infected with the virus. Now she will do anything she can to save him from changing into a werewolf and being killing by the next full moon in just a few days.
“I need you, Kate.” She nodded. Even after the kiss, she knew what he meant. “I know.” “Be strong. Help me figure out how to keep the nation together.” Pain and absolute determination settled across his face. “Help me leave you whole. I have to know you’re going to be okay if I—” “I’m not giving up.”-Jordan and Katie
“What about,” Katie cleared her throat, rolling her shoulders, “if we, I mean, what if we—” “Mated?” Amusement lifted the queen’s lips. “I truly don’t know.” She lost her smile. “Mating might work, might halt Jordan’s virus like it is in you ... or might turn you both into werewolves. When a shifter bites a mate, their physiology is altered, as you know. Forever. Who knows what would happen in this case.”-Katie and Emma
Jordan was one yummy, sexy cougar shifting, kick ass leader of the pride! I loved Jordan! He was so stubborn, loyal, and strong. He did what he had to, to keep his people safe. I loved getting to see how Jordan met and saved Katie when she was just a cub. Getting their backstory helped me understand their relationship more. Katie was amazing. She had really matured since the first book. She was always strong, brave, sassy and loyal, but now she had the wisdom of a woman ready to fight for what she wanted in life. Hot dayum the sexual tension between Jordan and Katie was crazy!!!!! And the mating OMG the MATING... was one of the sexiest mating scenes I have ever read. I loved the way she challenged him. At first I was all laughing at the things she was saying to goad him, The way she kept calling him names and saying he was a coward then actually kicking his ass omg too funny, but then when Jordan had enough I was like "uh oh"
“Why did you kick me?” Low, guttural, the primal tone cut through the storm. “Because sniveling, fucking cowards should be put down and out of their misery,” she yelled over the increasing wind. The animal shimmered under his skin. Anger, deep and primal, harnessed and rode the breeze. She took a step back. Water from her bill dropped onto her nose. This was more than Jordan. Fear caught in her throat. “Jordan, I—” “One chance, Kathryn.” His voice didn’t even sound like him. “Turn and go back to headquarters. Now.” Doing so would end any chance she had of mating him. Of saving him. But did she have the courage to face whatever he was becoming? Moonlight slithered down, and he bared his teeth. His tight muscles seemed to vibrate in place as he held himself in check. Barely. She took a deep breath, fear buzzing in her ears. All or nothing. “Fuck you.” Pivoting, she ran-Jordan and Katie
This book had so much packed into it. I was like OMG OMG OMG Rebecca Zanetti was just dropping bombs on me left and right and it was so good. It was so fun seeing Janie and Garret growing up and Talen and Garrett freaking out about her wanting to date a panther shifter. OMG rolling.....
"That Panther... he looks at her funny." Emma snorted. "You're such a dork." Katie jumped off the table. "I suppose you'd rather Janie dated a vampire?" "Hell no." Talen lifted Cara and set her down gently on the table. "I'd rather she didn't date at all. In fact, she's too young. Period."-Talen, Emma, and Katie
"Dad? The panther called again. Thought you should know." Talen growled low. "That kid needs to be relocated somewhere else." Garrett nodded. "Yeah. He looks at Janie funny." "See?" Talen gestured wildly. "Even he sees it."-Garrett, and Talen
“You want me, you take me, Jordan. You fucking earn me.” -Katie
Zane, Kalin, and Janie's relationship changed a lot in this book. Poor Jase has been taken by the demons and who knows what is happening there. God my fun loving easy going Jase! There was so much action going on in this book I couldn't wait to see what would happen next! This book was AMAZING!! For real I loved the HEA that Katie and Jordan get It was so sweet, but poor Jase! A must read!!!!!!! Kane story is next yay!
"I love you, Kate. No matter what happens, every good memory I have is filled with you."-Jordan

Jordan & Katie
Shifters against Werewolves
Fast forward 10 years from the last book. This time the focus is on the shapeshifters community and not entirely on the Kayrs brothers.
Werewolves are the result of a dangerous virus that Kurjans have created. When the virus infects the shapeshifters (either felines or wolves), they transform to werewolves i.e. mindless monsters, bloodthirsty, in love with the silver of the moon and easily manipulated by the ruthless Kurjans.
Shapeshifters have been Vampires’ strongest allies for centuries. As a result, their worst enemies Kurjans have a good, smart reason to want to transform them to their mindless army.
Jordan Pride is the shapeshifters’ leader, a lion and he is secretly in love with Katie Smith who is obviously in love with him. Jordan saved Katie when she was a little girl and she had just discovered that she was a lion shifter. He had always been very protective of her, until Katie was infected with the virus and did not turn into a werewolf. But the virus had other side effects on her and she decided to start fighting werewolves and stop running after Jordan.
So, for the last 10 years they are apart. Katie has become a 30 something years old woman still deep down waiting for Jordan, but stronger and more determined. Jordan unfortunately has just been infected by the virus. Could their mating be a solution and the antidote to the dangerous virus?
After 10 years people have noticeably grown up and change. This is more apparent to the children. Talen’s son, Garrett, is now 10 years old and very protective of his sister Janie who is now a 16 years old girl full of life and she has at least one admirer. Her friend Zane has stopped visiting in her dreams. Zane is now a twenty something soldier of a mysterious army, fighting mysterious battles in a mysterious place. He reveals nothing, when Janie manages to meet him again in her dreams. But she learns that he possibly fights against the Realm. Kalin the other boy of her dreams in now leading the Kurjan’s army.
The book about Janie, Zane and Kalin is being built and prepared since the first Dark Protectors book. I am looking forward t get to it.
Thus, lots of things are happening in this book:
-The war between the Realm and the Kurjans and their werewolves.
-The war between the Vampires and the Demons. Bad news for the Kayrs brothers.
-The deadly virus that infects shapeshifters, witches, Vampires’ mates. Possibly also Demons’ mates?
-The vaccine for the deadly virus. Queen Emma and Kane Kayrs are spending endless hours in Kayrs lab. Kane is an extraordinary, very clever vampire with unknown powers. I am sure he will have a very interesting story waiting for him.
-The love story of Jordan and Katie. Apparently shifters’ mating is very passionate and dangerous. Their potential mating will question the shifters’ leadership.
-The love future triangle between Janie, Zane and Kalin. They are still growing up and both Zane and Kalin are very protective of Janie for their own reasons.
And there is this warning...
You stay in this war, and you won’t like how it ends. -
I really wanted to love this long awaited story about Katie and Jordan. But while I could handle Connor's 100 years of solitude allowing Moira to come into her powers in the last book. I just could not get over Jordan's constant denial of his feelings for Katie and allowing her to go off and hunt werewolves for YEARS. Plus I HATED that Katie just rolled over for him literally and figuratively when he showed the least bit of reluctant interest.
Katie did make this story. She was fierce and brave, but her vagina got in the way of her brain. However, if not for her, there would have been no relationship and no Jordan.
Another thing I do not love is when she has known him for years (while growing up because he was much older) so she has seen him with women over time. Luckily my pet peeves are less for PNR, so this history did not detract for me.
Otherwise this is a safe story and is important to the series storyline. -
★4.5★
“You’re better than any dream I’ve ever had.”
Consumed is the fourth book in the Dark Protectors Series. This fourth book in the series is focused on werewolf hunter Katie Smith. The virus has infected Katie, and although she has always secretly loved Jordan Pride, she knows that now she is damaged goods. Jordan has loved Katie since the moment they met, and yet, he knows that she can have no future if she is tied to him. Both are helplessly lost without the other, and when their lives are on the line, suddenly they realize they are meant to be. Despite all of the challenges and evil forces around them, together, they are desperate to find their way."Sometimes you mate to stay alive."
Overall, Consumed is another paranormal crowd pleaser! Fans of the Dark Protectors will be so happy to have Katie and Jordan's story finally. I am not going to lie, Jordan was a little more hard-headed than I prefer in a hero, BUT in the end, I am glad I dove in for another taste of this world. Although each book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the entire series in order to get a full understanding of the characters and their relationships. This was another audible read for me. The voice actors were very talented, and I look forward to more from this series!

5 - "You survive the moon tonight, and I'll blow you every chance I get." Stars!
10 years have passed, since the beginning of the Dark Protectors series and Jordan and Katie finally get their book.
I have been reading this series avidly over the past couple of weeks, and the simmering sexual tension between these two throughout each book is finally getting the chance to develop into a full blown relationship.
”I’m strong, Jordan. You made sure of it.”
Something about her wildness just plain and simple turned him on.
Rebecca Zanetti delivered yet again, this is a book that has had anticipation building for it, threaded through pretty much all of the previous books in the series, but the passing of time and the development of the two characters because of it made their finally coming together all the more explosive and poignant, both POV’s show just how deeply and completely these two people feel for each other, and no matter how much Jordan fights against it, deep down he knows that Katie is his irrevocably and for always.
”Jordan. Kiss me back. Just one more time.”
The development of other characters in this book also promises lots more thrills and spills, Terrent and Maggie have definitely got a few things to ‘hash’ out, and not that Janie has almost grown up I am looking forward to seeing how her destiny plays out in the latter stages of this series.
Katie – “You’re better than any dream I have ever had.”
Jordan – “You are every dream I’ve ever had.”
Another 5 Star read from Ms. Zanetti, I am a little sad that I am getting nearer to being caught up with this series, as I almost feel like I am part of the family now!
”I want you. Even if this is our only chance... our only time... I never want to look back and wish.”

4 AT LAST!!! stars
This is the fourth book in the Dark Protectors series, and the long awaited coming together of Katie and Jordan. I’ve been waiting for Katie and Jordan’s story since book 1, and was so excited to finally get my hands on it!
Alpha shifter, Jordan took Katie in as an abandoned four-year-old when her own shifter abilities came in and completely freaked out her foster family. She has been in love with him for as long as she can remember, but he has always treated her like a little sister – although we know from his conversations with the Kayrs boys that he wants her but is giving her a chance to grow up and experience life so that she can figure out what it is she truly wants.
This book picks up ten years after the end of the last book, and Katie has been off hunting werewolves, becoming quite the badass! She has been living with Virus 27 which has left her unable to shift, and when she learns that Jordan was infected during an attack, with potential madness and death imminent, she will stop at nothing to help him.
I knew these two would be awesome when they finally got together, and I wasn’t wrong. Their chemistry is sensational! They know how they feel, they know how the other feels, there’s just so much that’s been standing in their way. Jordan is reluctant, but Katie is determined and it all unfolds beautifully!
The sex is seriously hot, the romance is intense and gorgeously swoony, and now that it’s finally their time they embrace it with everything they have.“You’re better than any dream I’ve ever had.”
His smile was slow, sexy, devastating. “You are every dream I’ve ever had”
But their love story is still complicated by so many external factors – the virus, war with the Kurgens, and a danger from the past who firmly has Katie and Jordan in his sights. And they have to be willing to risk it all in order to claim their future together.
It’s exciting and emotional, and I was enthralled from start to finish!
I love that so much time has passed since the last book because it allows a lot of character development to have occurred in that time. The couples are all well settled into mated/married life, Garrett is now 10 years old and growing into his fangs and is a mini-alpha in his own right, and Janie is 16 years old and entering the dating world - I’m still loving her story, it’s building to be something epic!
The war continues, there are some big developments in the overarching storyline , and I can’t wait to continue on with this series.
I loved it - 4 stars
Just a note - make sure you read these books in order! There is so much going on, and so much of the context and character development would be missed by just diving in halfway through. Seriously! I’ve seen reviews by people who picked up one of the middle books and then complained about not understanding what’s going on. Don’t do it!

Jordan & Katie's story:
Fun, fast paced PNR series. Great storyline, characters and suspense. Insta-love, mates for life, possessive Alphas and grotesque evil foes. There are Vampires, Shifters, witches, Demons and more. This is a continued storyline focusing on a different couple per book.
This series really does just get better with each book. We met Jordan and Katie from the very first book and have been active side characters all the way up to Consumed. I will admit, at first I was a bit bummed. Jordan does a lot of pushing away in the beginning. I understand why and it's his love for Katie that has him do this for her protection. I was still hoping to see more of these two as a couple, but then it happens! Let me tell you, the second half of the book made up for the pushing away in spades. I don't think I have read a more intense "claiming" scene before.
Not only did the author give me what I wanted for Jordan and Katie, she gave so much more in the overall story line. There was so much action, so many twists and turns with other characters that made this book so much more exciting. Rebecca Zanetti really has a knack for getting her readers hyped up for the next book in the series. -
This installment of Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protector’s series was by far the most intense. I was initially disappointed that Katie and Jordan didn’t have a lot of time together in the beginning. There are so many things going on with both of them due to the virus that the mystery and suspense seemed the main theme. However, once Katie makes her move on Jordan, things heat up and speed up. I have never read a mating scene that fierce and profound.
There are still plenty of alpha vampires and shifters, feisty heroines that don’t buckle under pressure, and oh my word the steam in this one is off the charts. I believe this book could be read without reading the previous ones but why wouldn’t you read them? It will make for a much more enjoyable read.
Dual POV
Completely Safe
Epilogue – as in all of these books it shows us some of the future and then gives us a look into what might happen even further into the future -
Love this series, another great addition ,Jordan and Katie's book.

Consumed also takes place ten years into the future from the previous story. The Realm is in the middle of their war with the Kurjans and their virus which is turning vampire mates back to humans, keeping female shifters from shifting and worst most of all turning male shifters into mindless werewovles (not just humans who shift into wolves, but something much, much worse.)
This is the fourth book in the Dark Protectors series, and the long awaited coming together of Katie and Jordan. I’ve been waiting for Katie and Jordan’s story since book 1, and was so excited to finally get my hands on it! In this fourth installment of the Dark Protectors series, we switch from the vampires to the shifters. Jordan and Katie have been a part of the story since book one, but now they finally get their own story. Why didn't anybody tell me about this series? Seriously. This was a really good paranormal romance. You don't need to read the previous books to understand what's going on in this one, but I would still recommend it, to learn the background of some of the side characters in this one. I also think it'll help give some context, such as the ongoing war and the virus the Kurjans have created. But this book is still enjoyable without reading the previous ones. CONSUMED wasn’t my favorite in the Dark Protector series. I had a hard time connecting with the main characters, Katie and Jordan, who are cougar shifters. (I think I might have a problem with shifters as the driving characters in a story. However, I need to analyze this revelation further by reading more shifter books before I come to a definite conclusion, and that’s a different story). :) The pace was nice and fast, I was never bored and the characters were all fun to follow. The twists were well revealed and they was plenty of action. Katie and Jordan had fantastic chemistry together and I loved how their relationship progressed even though they were both pretty stubborn.
Janie kicked out her feet. "Though now I've seen a naked shifter, I kinda wonder if they all look so good."
"What?" Katie froze. "I mean ... what?"
Janie rubbed her nose. "Charlie shifted when Garrett attacked him. Shredded his clothes. I gotta say, great body ... but penises are weird."
Katie's left eye began to spasm. "Uh-huh."
"Can I ask you a question?"
Only if it had nothing to do with penises. "Sure."
“You’re better than any dream I’ve ever had.”
His smile was slow, sexy, devastating. “You are every dream I’ve ever had” -
Consumed (Dark Protectors, #4) by
Rebecca Zanetti
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance, Suspense
4.75 Stars
This series has become one of the my favorite Adult Paranormal/Suspense Romances
I had to have them all.
Each one just made me want to read the next.
My least favorite was the 1st book in the series, 'Fated (Dark Protectors, #1). I rated it 3.5 and stated with some fine tuning it would easily be 4 to 5 stars.
Well, Ms. Rebecca Zanetti definitely did the fine tuning in the rest of this series!
The mc's of this one are Katie Smith & Jordan Pride, shifters in the Dark Protectors world.
The chemistry and adult scenes are Super Charged and melt me romantic.
These two set the pages on fire.
The suspense and action is high octane.
Kept me on the edge of my seat devouring every page.
My favorite of the series so far.
I admit I got into this one so much that if there were errors, I flat out read over them.
That is how much I got into this one.
I just hope the next in the series will continue to wow me. -
This was the first book of this series that I actually liked the couple. That the heroine was not obnoxious and over the top, but it came with a price and we paid it with angst. Oh my, I couldn't believe the things that happened here, I am still shaking. This author knows how to make a plot, she's terrible with the couples, at least I think so, most of my friends gave her previous books a very good rating.
Anyway, I think it is crazy that 10 years has passed since the last book and the war still goes on. I liked the fact that the characters didn't find their mates one after another in a matter of months, it sounds more believable that way.
This plot was great as I said and the couple was perfection, even though it took him long enough to make a move, even though it took him long enough to forgive his past, even though I hated when she hit him (I hate loved ones being hit, for me you can fight all you want verbally, but don't lift your hand) and even though the focus was on the couple, I loved seeing everything that was happening on the sideline. Seeing how the hero rescued her when she was a cub was the cutest! And Garrett was hilarious. And what a lovely Epilogue.
4.5 stars. -
Definitely my favourite book so far! Some seriously epic battle scenes, and Katie and Jordan have amazing chemistry.
-
Katie Smith has been waiting for the day when she could finally act on her instinct and have Jordan Pride as her mate. Jordan has fought tooth and nail to keep his distance from being romantic with Katie, now that he has been infected with the werewolf virus, he is regretting that he never made a move on her.
Katie knows the only chance Jordan has against fighting the virus is if they mate, but the mating could kill her as well. Katie wont back down though when it comes to challenging Jordan to mate her, if it means saving his life she will do whatever she can to protect him. Katie doesn't realize though that she has a stalker who plans to claim her for himself and if Jordan doesn't step up he could lose her forever.
I have been waiting anxiously for Katie and Jordan's story and although it was terrific, I felt like a bit of the spark that was so present in books 1 & 2 was missing a bit of it's zing in this one. -
Easily the best book in the series.
Want Maggie/Terrent's book NOW! -
3 / 5 stars

I fell in love with Jordan and Katie in the beginning with Fated. Through out the series got just enough info on just knowing they are going to have their own story. Wow loved every moment of it with a sexy Alpha Male Shifter and a sexy kick butt heroine.
Consumed takes place 10 years ahead of the last novel Hunted. I enjoyed how Rebecca has skipped some years especially since now Janie, Zane and Kalin are adults.
In Hunted Rebecca gave just a little bit of info on how Jordan and Katie met. Consumed starts off with the Prologue of the back story of how they met. Loved how it started this way, sweet and a bit sad. Also got to learn how she got her nickname Kitten.
Jordan is a sworn worthy, alpha male hero who has protected and gave Katie a home since she was like 6 years old. He is the Alpha male of his pack of lion shifters but has never let anybody in. He is kind of a loner. Since Katie has grown up he has been having feelings for her, but does not think it is right because he basically helped raised her. Sometimes his actions from his broodiness leaves for some ups and downs with them.
Katie I adore her strong will character and goes after what she wants. What she wants is Jordan and makes it very clear. His life is in danger of a virus and she will do what ever it takes to save him, even make him mate with her. She knows deep in her heart that Jordan has strong feelings for her. She finds ways to get into his heart and makes him realize he needs to love and have people love him. Poor Katie my heart did break a few times because Jordan is a very stubborn hero and sometimes things he said were not what he really wanted. But for Katie to hear it from the one and only person she has loved it hurts.
The chemistry was sweet and hot. The sexual tension was the best. Just enough that I could not wait for them to get together and when they do WOW it is steamy. I enjoyed the journey of their ups and downs and how they can get their HEA. They had some heartbreaking, happy and made me giggle moments. I am happy I did not have to wait for tons of novels before to get to their story. It was just enough books before and teasers to make their story perfect.
As always Rebecca has yummy secondary characters and in Consumed we got to see more of Maggie. Loved her friendship with Katie. Got just enough teasing with Maggie and Terrent to know they will have their own story. Look forward to their novella coming out June 2013. Really wish it was full length, not complaining Rebecca, I will take what ever I can get on them. The teasing amount that was in Consumed they are for sure not done, Maggie was a bad wolf, but for good reasons.
“I’ll consider myself lucky, then.”
His smile almost caused another panic attack. “Oh, this is just a short reprieve, little wolf. We’re nowhere near done.”
Kane’s book is next in Provoked and curious on how his story will be. He is the quiet of the bunch mostly fighting and in the lab. So far the series just gets better and better.
Wickedly Delicious Book Blog -
I need more stars for this book. I've been waiting a while for Jordan and Katie's story. This book was incredibly amazing. It has definitely been my favourite in the series. Now on to the next one!
-
Another excellent addition to the Dark Protectors series.
-
I love Katie and Jordan!! Their journey has been my favourite so far💙💜
-
"Consumed" is the story of Katie and Jordan.
If you've been reading this continuing storyline from book 1, Jordan and Katie are one of the main couples who intrigue us.
Jordan is the leader of the lion and shifter pride who had decided to join hands with Dage and the vampires for defeating the Kurjans, and Katie is a lioness who he rescued as a child.
Both have chemistry, but as both get infected in different ways, mating might be the only ways to save their life..
Honestly, this did not live up to my expectations at all. The series has gone a bit meh for me since book 1, and while I usually dont mind other characters in a couple's books doing their own things, in this series somehow they end up taking over. Also, this didn't have the banter and sexual tension I expected- instead there was a feeling of doom and reluctance throughout the book.
The only two things I liked were the mating scene in the forest- reminded me of "AHLNO" by Kresley Cole, as well as the epilogue. Would love to read about Janie and Zane, but after the last three disappointments- I think I need a break.

2.5/5 -
3 1/2 - rounding it to 4 stars!!
Seriously!!
Kat started off a bit lame, but then she pulled right through as AWESOME!
As for Jordan, he seriously started cool, but with all the whining he was doing (and how he was just giving up on everything) he became more annoying toward the end.
But he saved it in the end ;) so don't despair.
Loved it and can't wait for the next one! -
Book 4 in Rebecca Zanetti's Dark Protectors Series, leaps 10 years. It's not in the future just in the way of PNR, Fantasy and such it's just in the future of the books but still in the here and now.
Rebecca Zanetti started this series on the ground running.. Talen and Cara were charismatic, energetic, kick ass characters and each book since has been powerful.. each couple helping to shoulder the burden of the war between the Realm and the Kurjans. Jordan and Katie are no different. Of course I fell in love with Jordan and Katie way back in Fated. Waiting for such a couple to share their story can sometimes be anticlimactic.. *grins* I am happy to say this was SOOOOO Not the case.
Jordan Pride, leader of all the feline shifters.. Strong, powerful, and alone. Somewhere along the way Jordan decided it was better as a leader to be alone. To not allow others too close. That way they are never put in danger due to their relationship with you. A man alone has less to loose.. *shakes head* men, yes even strong men, can be so silly sometimes. Jordan is determined to save his people, to lead them into battle not from the back but from the front.. to lead by example. He commands their respect but the past 10 years of battle have been hard on him. Hard on his people.. they are dying..
Katie Smith was dosed with the virus that changes male shifters into permanent werewolves 10 long years ago. While she does not shift into a werewolf.. she does not shift at all. 10 years of missing the lion. Knowing what she has lost, grieving it. Knowing that in loosing that she is defective, no longer even an option to become the mate to the man she has loved since she was four years old. Instead she has become one of the best trackers of werewolves. Part of a team that seeks and destroys those who have turned. While she lost the ability to shift, she was given the ability to "feel" when and were a werewolf is.. where they are hiding and even to some extent what they are thinking. While it is not the life she had dreamt of, it is the life she has and she is quite good at it. UNTIL...
Katie's team is given a new shifter.. one just dosed with the virus, one who hasn't shifted.. can he be saved? And what will happen to the feline world if he can't because the person dosed is Jordan.. And he is determined to protect his people to the very end.
Werewolves have evolved they can communicate, work together, fight together. They have hierarchies.. and yet they remain evil.. As if this isn't enough, Katie is being stalked..what's a girl to do? Well if you are Katie you fight. You fight for the man you love, you fight to destroy evil, if it is coming at you, you fight.
As busy as Jordan and Katie are in this story, the subplots are equally intriguing.. Janie is 16.. can you imagine Talen? What do you mean Janie wants to date? oh yeah.. there is humor here.
The shifter female who has been doused with the virus that is known to be able to shift has been called home. The wolves want her in their hands... No longer are they willing to allow the felines and the Vampires to care for her. Maggie, too has spent ten years fighting against the werewolves, in her case it's the only ten years she can remember. She has no desire to "go home" in her mind she is home. The leader of the wolf's bane.. has come for her and oh boy do sparks fly. I am sure there will be quite the tail to be told very soon.
The Kurjans have grown in power and numbers while the Realm is suffering. Battling Demons and Kurjans and the virus is destroying them. Vampires worry about their mates.. if they find mates.. there is no cure for the virus.. they become un bonded.. Cara still remains unmated to Talen.. as long as the virus remains in her she remains unable to remain as Talen's mate.. soon if something is not done.. Cara will suffer.
We get peaks of Zane, we learn who he is... sort of.. and no he isn't what I thought he was. Well he might be, kind of.. but Ms Zanetti remains a tease.. we still are not sure of who and what he is.
This book is most definitely what I call a page turner. Each page is full of adventure, action and passion. The fight for Jordan is powerful. Jordan must learn that he has not and never will be alone. That he has powerful friends that call him family. That there are those who are not only willing to die for him but more importantly are willing to live for him. That he IS the leader of the feline nation and they stand with him. There were moments that Jordan's journey brought me to tears and others where I wanted to jump up and down and shout in sheer joy!! Of course there were also a couple of one liners that made me giggle.. I won't quote my favorite because, well it's a spoiler. But when you get to the line where Jordan comments on Katie's stalker... think of me..
This book can be read as a stand alone, but I seriously recommend that you read the books in order. We see a lot of all of the Karys Brothers as well as Max, Maggie and Janie.. it helped that I knew who and what each character was. BUT if you can't wait.. if this book has already captured you.. then it go ahead.. But definitely READ it.. another MUST READ from the world of Rebecca Zanetti.

Carla's Review:
CONSUMED is the 4th book in the DARK PROTECTORS series and is a full length book so don't let the eBook only format (for now anyway) mislead you. This is the long awaited story of Jordan Pride and Katie Smith and I have been DYING for their story since we first met them in FATED. This book "Consumed" me from the very first page. I did not put it down until I finished it.
CONSUMED begins 10 years after HUNTED left off. Yes, it is a big gap in time but everything flows together perfectly and you won't feel like you missed a big chunk of story-line.
Katie is now a werewolf hunter and one of the best. With the virus still effecting her, she still can't shift and she's slowly getting weaker by the day but that does not stop her. Katie was always stubborn and determined to do anything she puts her mind to and that has not changed. Katie gets a file of a new shifter that has been infected by the Kurjan virus. The virus turns a shifter into a werewolf at the next full moon. She is excited to get moving and take out the next infected shifter before he can harm anyone. That is, until she opens the file and sees Jordan's picture inside. The man that saved her from being shot and murdered by her crazy foster father when she was 4 years old and the man she's been in love with her whole life. Now Katie is determined to save Jordan and will stop at nothing to do it. She has no idea how Jordan really feels about her she's planning to seduce Jordan and force him to mate her, eveb if the virus kills her as well.
Jordan Pride has always kept everyone at an arms length. Being the Leader of the Pride, he doesn't let anyone get close to him because he's worried about them becoming a target to get at him. Jordan has known that Katie is his mate for a long time and is more determined than ever to keep her away. Now that he has the virus and will become a werewolf at the next full moon he's trying to force Katie to return to the Realm so she will be protected. But Jordan has underestimated Katie's love and determination to save him from this horrible fate. And if that's not enough to deal with, a relative from Jordan's past has come back for revenge and Katie is being hunted by the biggest, smartest, baddest werewolf around and he wants Katie all for himself.
I have to say that with all the anticipation of this book, I was not disappointed at all. Rebecca totally blew me away! Consumed took me on an emotional rollercoaster ride. I laughed out loud, I cried, I screamed in frustration, I cried again, and I was literally gripping my iPad during the action scenes. I love all the books in this series, but this one is my favorite of them all (so far anyways :-D).
We also get to see some of the hunky Kayrs brothers and their mates, as well as, some of our other favorites.
Poor Jase Kayrs. That's all I can say. :-(
Janie Kayrs is now 16 years old and it was a big, but refreshing change to see her growing and maturing. Zane has been blocking Janie from his dreams and Janie is hurt and does not understand why. Something BIG happens with Janie in this book and I swear I was bawling like a baby.
Baby Garrett (Talen & Cara's son) has grown and is 10 years old now. It's funny to see him as a hulking 10 year old vampire but still immature as a 10 year old would be and protecting his older sister from potential boyfriends.
I'm going to leave it at that. I don't want to give away too many details of the story because you really just need to read it. It was that AMAZING!!
I am now clamoring for the release of PROVOKED which will be the story of Kane Kayrs and is scheduled to be released November 1, 2012.
I would recommend reading the first 3 books in the series before reading Consumed. Especially with the jump in time and the flowing story arcs from the previous books. A reader beginning this series with this book might be a bit overwhelmed and confused.

UPDATE: Just re-read this after going back to hit the backlist. This is by far my favorite in the series to date.
Why didn't anybody tell me about this series? Seriously. This was a really good paranormal romance. And it would have been undoubtedly even better if I had read the three books that came before it.
Katie is a cougar shapeshifter who has been in love with Jordan all of her life. But her pack-leader always treated her like the little girl she was when they first met. She left the pride 10 years ago, to help hunt shifters who had become infected with a virus that mutated them into beastly werewolves. Katie, herself, was hit by the virus, but for women, the result is an inability to shift.
Jordan always knew about Katie's girlhood crush on him. It was part of the reason he let her go all those years ago... to see if the feelings would stand up over time and the distance. He thought there was plenty of time to see what would happen between them. He never counted on being infected with the werewolf gene himself. Now he has only days to get his affairs in order before he descends into madness. Part of that means getting Katie back to the safety of the keep.
Of course, once Katie and Jordan are back in each other's orbit, there is no denying they are supposed to be together. The sexual tension is off the charts. The two of them want each other so much, but Jordan considers himself too damaged for Katie now. Sex could be dangerous and mating is completely out of the question. Katie wants Jordan any way she can have him. And what if mating could help him? So they're in this tug of war, but at the center is real love --and a whole lotta lust. Once we do get to the sex, it's really, really good. Primal and hot at times, gentle and loving in others. Everything I wanted.
There's much more to the story. A werewolf targeting Katie. A war among supernatural species. A wealth of secondary characters, some carrying over stories from previous books, while others are laying foundations for books to come. It's rich and fast paced. My only issue was that it was a lot to take in as a new reader, especially the history of the war and the virus. But I did get a good grip on it over time and it was worth the effort. If anything, it makes me want to go read the series backlist. I will definitely be reading the future books. I hope Katie's feisty friend Maggie gets her story next!
Rating: B+

Consumed, the fourth book in the Dark Protectors series, was a fantastic read! Katie and Jordan, two lion shifters, were perfectly matched, and it was frustrating to see them spend so many years apart fighting their attraction. It was only until Jordan was infected by the Kurjan virus that finally put these two on the path to finally move towards true mating. So many times I wanted to slap both Jordan and Katie stubbornness by circling each other and pulling back at the last minute because of Katie’s doubt or Jordan’s taking it upon himself to protect Katie form himself. It was even more irritating that they had spent ten more years apart while longing for the other when they could have been fighting as a team together.
Nevertheless, the sexual tension was balanced out with the intense action and exquisite romance between the main characters. Katie is such a strong-minded young woman who knew exactly who and what she wanted. Katie did not play childish games to make Jordan jealous or to hurt herself out of pique. She never backed down from her duty to serve in the war nor her loyalty to Jordan. Although I wanted to see more alpha possessiveness from Jordan, to his credit, Jordan did not stand in Katie’s way to let her grow and mature into a woman and warrior that she was meant to be. With the timeline jump of ten years, the plotline has evolved in that the Kurjans have grown in power, the virus affecting mates has mutated, and the werewolves have evolved from just mindless killers to being able to talk and strategize.
The action was nonstop and it was the unexpected twists and turn that made this story such an intense rollercoaster ride. Although there were many other subplots, the focus never strayed far from Katie and Jordan. Their presence permeated the story whether they were on stage or not. Consumed is such a page-turning, exciting read and for me the best book in this series so far. In terms of PNR, this is a five-star book. Because I loved Katie and Jordan so much, I am chomping at the bit to read Janie and Zane’s story. -
What a fantastic read, I really enjoyed this book. I have been looking forward to Katie and Jordan's book since Fated and I was not disappointed. Katie was strong and she fought to be with Jordan all the way and I liked that about her, compared to the other women in the series, they took their stubborness a bit too far IMO. What was nice is that we caught a glimpse of I hope another future love story between Maggie and the Ooh soo delicious Terrent Vilks. Also Janie and Zane, I cannot wait for that one!!!!. We got to know Garrett - Cara and Talen's son and he was soo cute. Rebecca Z did a good job with this book that had me glued to the pages and although she jumped 10 years, if you have been reading the books in order you where not lost and knew the world she created. She is now one of the authors that I will definitely be reading more of in the future, she does a good job with her storylines, action and love scenes. My only wish is that she will stop writing the heroines as being too stubborn, I had my fill of them in Fated and Claimed. I think that is why I dnf Hunted(Conn and Moira's story), I justed could not connect with them.
An overall good series, cannot wait for November for Provoked. -
Spoilers**
This book was so emotionally intense. It had so many unexpected twists.
It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Perfect blend of lovable characters. The storyline was unique and amazing.
I laughed, creamed, screamed and cried "real tears" When a book has the effect on my I know its special!
I found myself pumping my fist in the air one minute and the next I was balling my eyes out. Truly amazing.
Jordan, leader of his pride, a sexy, strong, protective alpha male who is emotionally distant from everyone who cares for him. He feels guilt about his past actions. He doesnt want to admit his feelings about katie.
Katie a lion shifter at one time. Infected with virus 27. She lost the power to shift. With the virus in her system she can now feel where the werewolves are. She is fiercely loyal, smart, beautiful and one badass chic. Shes loved Jordan ever since he saved her when she was little.
This book is truly amazing!!! I dont think I could say enough positive things about it. This book will stay with me for a long time to come. Its a must read. -
In all of the previous books we have watched the attraction between both Jordan Pride and Katie and of how they have helped with the war in any way that they can.
Katie has previously been infected and now ten years have passed since the beginning of the war and she has found a new way in life with a job in the police force and with two male shifters in killing werewolves as she can sense them.
Katie has loved Jordan since he rescued her as a 4yr old cub running from her foster father, scared and after having shifted for the very first time.
Jordan has been keeping his attraction from Katie, but it is only after something happens to threaten his time on earth that he finally admits that he wants her, but in true fashion it takes Katie to challenge him of him to finally claim her as his.
We still get to see the progression of the war, new characters come in to play and make demands and we get to see more of our beloved characters from previous books.
I am seriously loving this series.
