A WORLD OF MODERN MECHA AND MAGIC

Syaoran, Fai, Kurogane, and Mokona venture to the Hanshin Republic to find one of the missing pieces of Sakura's memory, transformed into magically powerful feathers. There, Syaoran meets his "Kudan": a fierce wolf-spirit whose fiery power mirrors Syaoran's personal strength. But with foes like a pop idol who sings words of pain, Syaoran's hunt for feathers is no child's game! And even if he finds the feathers, will Sakura ever wake up from her magical sleep? And since Syaoran bargained away their relationship in a pact with a witch, can their love ever return to the way it was?

I am liking the story so far. I really got immersed in it and liked the characters. Hope for more spotlight and development for Sakura. Full of action. We traveled our first new world-Henshin (I feel like it is China-like country). We learned what Kudan is, too. Interesting concept, Kudan being some kind of God and protecting his human. The ending was heartbreaking. Syaoran, don't worry. She is going to fall in love with you again!
PS: I watched the anime and Yuki Kajiura did the music! (She did the music for Pandora Hearts). I love her compositions!

    3.5/5

I'm liking the manga much more than the anime. The manga gives the fan more hints, it tells the reader much more about who the characters are, what secrets they might harbor. So far, I like Fye best. He and Kurogane and Mokona Modoki are a great trio. Shaolan and Sakura are too sugary cute - though their story is just as painful, of course. Also, it's great to see characters from various shows pop up, especially if they actually died in those shows and here they are alive and sometimes even happy. It was so much fun to see Touya and Yukito in this one again :P

  • Becky

They are so adorable and they have so many feelings!

It took me a long time ti finish this second volume since I had reached a good part of the story and I didn’t want that “good part” of the story to end. So I stalled on finishing reading the volume.

I don’t like going into certain manga’s expecting anything to happen. I like going into manga’s open-minded so I can take in the story as well as the artwork.

Saying that, I really like where this second volume has lead to. I’m still interested in the series, so I will be continuing on with the third volume when I can.

I think that what I like most about this series is that not only is the story incredibly fast paced but, there’s a sense of duty and honour that needs to be accomplished.

I give this second volume, 5 stars on Goodreads.

I enjoyed this one, but not as much as I enjoyed the first. I think a lot of that had to do with Primera, and the fact, that from the time she was introduced, I couldn't stand her. Otherwise I really liked reading more about the main characters on their quest, and about the characters of the world there were visiting. I loved the Kuran and Shogo was a fun characters to meet, but the story line wasn't as attention grabbing for me, and the fight with Primera was more ridiculous than funny. I did like the surprise with the feather though!

  • Jenny Clark

Lots of action! Primela was cute and fun. I liked her kudan being a microphone.
I officially love Fai! He and Kurogane play off each other so well. I also love Mokona! Toya and Yukito are super cute together, no mater how it is. I hope we can see them in every world!
I am looking forward to seeing how Clamp introduces more of their other characters. This is a really interesting idea for a story.

I watched the anime already, so I know what happens. Considering that you think I wouldn’t bawl much eyes out like I don’t know what’s gonna happen to Sakura and Syaoran next bro.

When she said “who are you?” I cried. Fuck man. I hate it and I love it.

I finished this shit in 55 minutes bro I can’t even.

    i'm enjoying this manga

  • Caroline Spence

I really enjoy this story and the character development that is explored. Fair warning, though, that the translator chose to use the R-slur.

  • Bradley

    Charizard vs Blastoise.

Battles are incredibly hard to follow. The art ain’t speaking to me with all that water and fire flying around I guess. Feels like we're already leaving world one. Bit too quick? Hm, we'll see.

  • Heather

This volume wasn't quite as interesting as the first volume in which the main characters set out on their journey. It got a little silly with Primera's singing attacks and all of the battles and whatnot.

Also, this is the first volume that I read in English, and I'm not very impressed with a few things about it. One picky thing is poor editing--they can't decide whether to call the character I mentioned above "Primera" or "Primela." Pick one! Also, I'm not sure how Fai's name was supposed to be spelled in romaji according to CLAMP, but it seems like since he made Chi and he speaks in Greek letters when the characters lose their translator, Mokona, I'm guessing they were going for "Phi." Wikipedia says that it was originally romanized "Fay," though, so maybe not? Huh.

"Syaoran" is also not my favorite romanization for the main character's name, although I think that spelling is typical--strictly speaking, it should be something like "Xiao Ran," although I have no idea if that's right since I don't speak Chinese. At least something closer to the way an English-speaking person should be pronouncing it would be nice... "Shaoran," or "Shaolan, or "Shao Lan" or something. When I read "Syaoran" I want to pronounce it like I'm a kid with a speech impediment. "Sssiow-rahn." Ugh.

I haven't read too many recently translated and commercially published manga--I just started on Oh My Goddess!, which I think has spoiled me somewhat since Dark Horse uses more varied text in that and they have extensive and meticulous translators' notes. The text in Tsubasa is just kind of plain. The translators' notes also aren't that involved, although I did enjoy the parts about Tokyo vs. Osaka culture.

I'm still liking this as a series and will try to get a hold of more of the English versions of the manga since I seem to be able to burn through those faster.

In this volume we have the conclusion of the story in the second world and Sakura gets another of her feathers. Reaching the third world, they come across a new threat (the costumes are so cute and the shots they have on the horses are gorgeous- plus it's so cute that Sakura is supposed to be Fai's sister). The group has to investigate the legend of the golden haired princess and the disappearance of the town's children when Sakura is also kidnapped. After the end of this adventure, they visit a new world. The world seems peaceful and cute at first but it's full of monsters. Syaoran has to learn how to use a sword in order to fight them and protect the person he loves the most. The kitten and puppy jokes are really cute. I adore all the interactions between Fai and Sakura and Fai and Kurogane. But in this volume there is one of the most heartbreaking scenes as well. As Sakura is about to remember Syaoran the magic strikes her and she immediately forgets what she wanted to say. It's just so painful. As painful as the scene in volume 1.

In a world where the everyday citizen may wield a kudan, creatures of unpredictable power, Syaoran teams up with Kurogane and Fai to save Mokona, the mystical being that transports them between realms, and find the first feather containing Sakura's memories. CLAMP jumps into the action with an entertaining entry sure to draw in even reluctant readers. Why are there so many familiar faces in this city, and what do they mean for the coming worlds?

  • MajesticalLion

This volume does a lot to establish the character dynamics of our main cast. Kurogane and Fai shine a lot. But the biggest standout this volume is definitely Syaoran. The volume's focus on Kudans was interesting, and it makes me curious how long we'll be staying on this world. Or maybe the Kudans will follow them to the next world. There's a lot to think about.

  • Izlinda

Kudan! Reminds me of Pokemon. I like the story/morale of the time spent in Hanshin Republic. Though the female was a little annoying...

  • Pflanzis

  • Mads

Tsubasa continues to deliver interesting story elements and surpass its on-screeen adaptation in almost every way. We see a bit of foreshadowing towards events much later in the series with Syaoran's dialogue, and this volume's mystery is delivered with plenty of surprises and "Aha!" moments. The authors trust their readers to understand where the plot is going, and sneak in enough clues that some will figure out the twists early, which is refreshing. We also get a better grasp on Mokona's powers and can only hope they'll be utilized more as a dramatic tension device as the series goes on.
The art as usual is stunning and dynamic, but this volume has serious pacing issues. Towards the end readers are dragged along and left to catch up with the confusing character motivations. The panels themselves are sometimes missing key establishing shots so that I was often wondering where characters were at any given moment. Some scenes would have Syaoran appear to be floating due to the lack of a shadow, others would set the characters on a platform and forget where that platform was in relation to the villain's location. The panels are oftentimes so packed that you have to squint to figure out what's actually going on. It got confusing at times, but didn't ruin the experience for me.
If you enjoyed the previous volume, then you're almost guaranteed to feel the same about volume two. Good luck!

    * RESUMEN EXPRESS CON SPOILER*

    - Syaoran usa un Kudan (Esto es como una especie de espíritu) para proteger a un muchacho llamado Masayoshi en medio de una pelea callejera. Sin embargo, hace que Shogo Asagi ponga su atención en él. a causa de esto Mokona y Masayoshi son secuestrados por Primera, una Idol que tenía la intención de secuestrar a Syaoran.
    - Mientras Fye se encarga de distraer a Primera, aparece Shogo, y Mokona detecta una pluma, lo que hace que Syaoran piense que él tiene la pluma y acepte pelear con él. Pero las cosas se tuercen ya que la pluma la tiene el kudan de Masayoshi, que crece como loco por el poder que tiene la pluma. Con el apoyo de Masayoshi, Syaoran recupera la pluma y se la entrega a Sakura, la cual despierta de su sueño, pero no puede recordar nada de su pasado.

The Hanshin arc is a wild ride from start to finish. This is where they flesh out all the key concepts of the manga at its heart; the world building, the action, the light hearted situations and the heart breaking ones. Incredible strides are subtly taken in terms of characterisation - you feel like you have a grasp of the characters we have, it seems like they’ve already started to grow, yet at the same time you can grasp some of the darker tones that are still hidden beneath. It’s essentially a trial by fire (ha) where this volume will essentially be the litmus test for whether this series is for you, even if some of the minor characters are... baffling to say the least. (Sorata I swear to god)

Libro: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, tomo 2.
    Escritor: CLAMP.
    Páginas: 194.
    Puntaje: 3/5 ⭐

Syaoran & co continue their adventures in their first ever new world (well, the first ever new world for Syaoran at least). They're faced with the strange magic of this new place and the challenge of locating the feather that represents Princess Sakura's missing memories. Having attracted strong magic, Syaoran finds himself in the middle of a turf war, where he might lose track of that very important feather.

Still enjoying myself! I can tell I'm out of practice reading comics/manga, because the fight scenes do confuse me at times. No complaint about the art, it's just me being close to visually-illiterate. The mysteries and relationships here are engaging. Will be reading nr 3 soon!

  • Phélan

There, that's better. Basically, live and let go.

This book is really great it talks about three people and a kudan (kudan means yokai in japan) were they are in a quest to retrieve a feather that will make the young lovable princess wake up. During the quest they had to battle one of the leaders to see if they have the feather. Eventually they found the feather inside one of the kudan's but when they got it back and gave it to the princess so she can wake up. She woke up but she lost her memories at the same time. I would really commend this book to people who love reading Manga books.
