Abstract and Brief Chronicles of the Time Reviews

This short essay collection/anthology of Tumblr posts by Rosianna Halse Rojas follows her and her personal experience with grief in the six months following the death of her father. This collection was beautiful, surprisingly poetic, raw, real, and so very human.

I found myself deeply relating to the ways she experienced and talked about her grief. While each person's experience with grief is unique to themselves and to the person they are grieving, the loss of a close family member is a gut-wrenching and deeply painful experience -- an experience Rosianna described almost perfectly.

I purchased this collection on a whim (being a long-time viewer of Rosianna on YouTube) and I thought it was done beautifully. While I don't know her personally, reading about the grief and everything else that she was experiencing at the time before, during, and after her father's death really rang true for me. It is reminiscent of how I feel/felt when my grandmother died about a month ago - although, obviously, quite different. When you read, you can almost feel the chaos of her words and the grasping for the right words to choose. The few quotes mixed in were a lovely addition and I can definitely envision myself giving this another read-through whenever I'm having a particularly hard day.

    Woah.

This is the rawest thing I've ever read and it's just so honest and beautiful and utterly heartbreaking (H&M locket)

I have no idea how to rate this... The words are like tiny pieces of Rosianna herself, how am I supposed to mark that out of five?! Just read it. Read it and think about it, that's all I can say.
