A wonderful book for the avid cook or gardener. Vegetables are listed alphabetically from artichokes to tomatoes with recipes for each vegetable, suggested varieties, when to harvest , how to preserve and uses for other edible parts. A short section covers herbs and another for fruits. Since I have an abundance of rhubarb each year, the recipes are very welcome. Also inspires me to try new varieties and some more exotic greens (collards, broccoli rabe). A brief chapter on canning is a helpful addition to someone new to preserving.

    Outstanding cookbook.
Includes recipes, and harvesting/preserving tips for 16 veggies, 6 fruits, and a handful of herbs.

Oh, my! This book is gorgeous!!! If I were rating on pictures alone, it would be five stars, for sure! While the book did discuss favorite varieties of each type of produce that they recommend, there wasn't enough information, in my opinion, on which varieties would thrive in a variety of climates. We don't all live in Menlo Park, people! That being said, it's still a wonderful book to have on hand for when you're not sure what to do with an overproducing garden. The book also discusses ways to preserve the harvest via freezing or canning (water bath only, which is to be expected from this sort of book). Honestly, I liked it enough that once I get my farm going, I might actually buy a copy. I think it has a lot of potential for long-term use.

While the premise of this cookbook/gardening guide was promising, I found it to be lackluster. The gardening aspect was sparse and the recipes were uninspired. At least 50% of the pages were pictures. Pictures are lovely but more content was suggested and desired.

This book is filled with easy, bright, healthy summer recipes and tidbits for eating healthier! It is a winner of a book.
