I have taken your reviews to heart. Many of you loved Going Under, but wanted more of an explanation for what happened to Jessie in the last chapter.
I've thought about it for several days and made my decision about the conclusion to Going Under and what I needed to do to give my readers what they want. The reader is always right, amirite?
I have written an additional chapter. It is Chapter 36 "I Haven't Gotten Over This Yet" and will be added to Going Under for future buyers. The only reason this gets a star is cause I finished but to be honest I wish I had given up when I wanted to but as this was a book challenge I was doing I decided to keep going.
My advice would be to read
Pushing the Limits instead. It is very similar but IMO far superior.
The "teen speak" was cringey & then other conversations were so prim and unrealistic.
There were a lot of spelling & grammatical errors that usually if the story is good enough I can overlook but not in this case I'm afraid.
This felt like a mash up of different YA romance's that I have already read like the above mentioned book and
Perfect Chemistry.
And the ending! OMG the ending. It was as if the author ran out of ideas and just thought "K I'm done I'll just finish here" and just tacked on an epilogue at the end cause someone told her to.
Total WTF.
I am sorry if this offends anyone who loved this book. This review is after-all just my opinion :) -

I normally find her jokes and banter entertaining–– until they’re aimed at me.
In Going Under good girl Claire catches the eye of her schools new student Jesse Boone, a transfer from Collinsville a not so nice part of town. Jesse has a rep for being a bad boy, he’s also an athlete with his sight set on becoming Franklin High’s new quarterback which would have him replacing Forbes Henderson…Claire’s boyfriend.
Things become dicey when Jesse decides to use Claire to get at Forbes escalating the rivalry to on and off the field. Problem is Jesse has no clue that Claire is playing a game of her own.
My Thoughts
This was a sweet mature YA that held a twist I did not see coming until it was upon me as I was reading the scene. The writing was along the lines of common. It held a YA formula and stuck to it; NOT bad just common. The characters did not really stand out in anyway. We had Claire the rich girl, good girl, VIRGIN, the good student, with a smart mouthed pretty best friend. Then there was Jesse the bad boy, from the wrong side of the tracks, under bad parentage, looking for a way out through sports and hopefully with a gained scholarship.
While the book never strays far from the basic YA formula in terms of characterization nor did it with its plot lines it still managed to keep my attention. I found the characters sweet and endearing. I thought each had a great dose of witty banter which was nice.
Overall, I liked it! And I recommend it to YA lovers looking for a sweet quick read!

I'm struggling to write this review, so please bear with me while i try to put into words the whole gamut of thoughts and emotions running through my head. This is the first book that i've read by Ms. Cates and if the calibre of this story is anything to go by, it won't be the last. So Cassie is the popular-always-do-what-is-expected-of me type and Jessie is basically the rebel without a cause and to me this story was very reminiscent of Simone Elkeles's Perfect Chemistry BUT in no way is it a copycat as it manages to stand on its own 2 feet and then some. I loved Jessie, i thought he was hot!! Tough and cool on the outside, but such a marshmallow on the inside. I can't seem to write much else right now as my brain is still digesting this story, but suffice to say it is a worthy 5 star read and i'm so glad that i decided to buy this on a WHIM from Smashwords! Congrats, Ms Cates, job well done and i look forward to more of your work!

This book has a unique charming vibe to it. There are some bands or artists that are thought of as "lo-fi." Bands like Neutral Milk Hotel, or the Shins, maybe, and artists like Sufjan Stevens and that Iron & Wine guy. They are just the opposite of overproduced, they are recorded in a way that conveys the immediacy and authenticity of their creation, and they usually speak to very personal concerns and issues, not big generic pop themes. That was kind of how I felt about this book: it's lovely, heartfelt and a flat-out story-telling whirlwind of inexplicable, written-in-the-stars attraction that has a lot to overcome. The two mc's are kind of riffs on the "hot bad boy/jock/wrong-side-of-tracks" and the "pampered princess cheerleader." But they some have personality and hidden traits to them, and Claire, in particular, with her willingness to keep putting herself out there to save their relationship, is especially appealing. I'll be honest, I do have a couple issues with this book. Jessie is one charming guy, overcoming some truly awful issues and events - but he talks more a like a girl's fantasy of how a guy thinks than is realistic, from my antique but still generically male perspective. Dear author, I love you all to pieces, but honestly, guys (especially hs jock/bad boy types) just don't think of, or refer to girls' breasts as "perky." Lots of other words maybe, but not that one (actually "breasts" is not part of common male parlance at that age, either, while we're on the subject). And if they ever do, it means "small, but I am trying to say that in a nice way." But the way he thinks/talks is part of what makes Jessie such a fun character, and serves to make it clear that he really is kind of a marshmallow/smarter-than-he-looks under that all that tattoo-age and roughness. Also, as some other reviewers have noted, have your seat belt on for a rather head-snapping halt as you round the curve into the last chapter. I would have preferred a bit more resolution, more closure, more comeuppance for the various bad guys, more revelling in a bit of HEA, and more of the delightful perseverance of the Claire whose feelings would not be denied. Honestly, I'd read a sequel, def enough going on to merit one! So, just to clarify, since I started by saying a big plus is the "authenticity," and then criticized the authenticity of Jessie's voice, what is awesomely authentic about this book is the great storytelling, and a cast full of characters who, while they might occasionally be over the top (man, I wish I knew a girl who could wise-crack like bff Payton when I was in high school!), are irresistibly winsome and endearing.

Oh, wow.... This book was soooooo good.
Georgia makes a story that is lovely and believable and heart breaking and awesomely beautiful. I loved it, beginning to end. I thought it was a paranormal book, but I was wrong!
It was real and it made my top 5 books of the year list. Without a doubt a creamy, flowy, swoony, and eye opening book. Thank you Georgia!

This had reminded me so much of Perfect Chemistry and Pushing the Limits although this one is published first before the latter. Actually it was pretty identical but for someone who's just looking for some sweet story with enough depth to read I think this could definitely work out for them. It wasn't that bad but since it was like I've read this story before it didn't really strike me anything. Sure, there were moments that I actually enjoyed, I just wished that it had offered something much more different and remembering. Some reactions from the other characters kinda put me off like the heroine's mom when she finds out who her daughter was dating. Of all people, she should understand them given her profession. It was kinda infuriating actually and a what-the-f* moment. The ending kinda weird-ed me out too. It was suddenly cut dead end, and in a worst scenario and then it was suddenly epilogue and it was happily ever after. I wish the author had explored the last parts some more. Nonetheless, despite the negative I've said it wasn't really that of a bad read. It was a fairly good and entertaining read.

★★★★! Going Under series, book 1 & 2 (complete series). Cute YA coming-of-age stories - 2 privileged (girl) friends meet 2 guys from the “wrong side” of town.
Both books are entwined so I recommend reading them together as a set. To me this ended up one of those “feel good” series and I fell in love with all four protagonists. Both books have detailed descriptions to get you started. Here are my 2 cents:
Going under, Book 1
Jessie Boone (18 years/student/black hair/light blue eyes) is beyond wonderful (sigh!). Even though he grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and never had anyone caring for him he had a 4.0 GPA and phenomenal athletic skills upon starting his senior year of high school at East Franklin. There he meets Claire Elizabeth Deveraux (17 years/student/auburn hair/green-hazel eyes), who has so much spunk. I loved her strength and her wit, but it was Jessie who kept me reading. Because I needed something good to happen to him after everything he has had to endure. The dialogue/story came across as a bit immature at times, but I wrote it off as privileged kids who did not have to grow up too fast. The epilogue was sooo special.

The summer after high school graduation Claire’s friend Payton Caroline Archer (18 years/student heading to college/blond hair/amber eyes) meets Jessie ‘s childhood friend Nick Hawke (19 years/high school graduate-heading to police school/black hair/brown eyes) and the sparks fly. I fell in love with Payton in book one - she is so witty and truly the queen of comebacks:
”…I know the game like your crotch knows the palm of your hand and I definitely saw a move, so I’m giving you the luxury of a warning…” (book 1)
“…it’s clear that you plan on adding yourself to Miss Black Halter Top’s list of suspects for her next pregnancy scare…” (book 2)
Nick was just as hot as Jessie and equally adorable. It was nice to get to follow Jessie and Claire some more. Once again - loved the epilogue!

Why didnt i give it a 5 star rating? I just didnt like the whole epilogue thing at the end kind of ruined it for me.
I would have liked to have left the rest of their lives to mystery so we could all make our own conclusions and therefore everyone could have their own idea of what might have happened and would have been content and happy with their own imaginative HEA.
I mean you cant just jump 3 years it doesnt seem right!

This book starts as the perfect high school drama. We've got our bad boy from a bad background who's willing to do anything to get the spot he wants on the school sports team. That spot just happens to be held by Mr. Rich & Popular and he has the the most beautiful and sought after girl as his girlfriend. Jessie decides to use Forbes perfect girlfriend as the perfect weapon to drive him crazy. Jessie devises a plan to try to steal Claire away as an act of revenge. Jessie however finds himself surprised when his attempts become real because he discovers Claire is actually the girl he really wants. She's perfect and he's completely in love. But Claire comes from a rich perfect family and Jessie is the opposite, he feel she doesn't have a chance in the world. Even more surprised is Claire, when he finds herself just as attracted to Jessie as he is to her. But the expectations for her are really high, can she abandon this perfect world she's created for herself on a whim?
They play cat and mouse for a while until they can't hide the truth and their feelings any longer. For a while everything seems to be going smoothly, and then some major unexpected events occur that completely compromise their relationship. Jessie wants to protect Claire, and that means not being with her. Claire is not ready to let go without a fight.
Jessie is supposed to be this big bad boy, but I really don't think he is. He has this big bad facade to keep people out. Based on what he has had to endure growing up, I can't say I blame him for shutting people out. He feels the need to lie constantly so no one knows the truth about his life, I feel in doing so he sets himself up to have his own dreams crushed. This is more than a story about love, it's a story about knowing when to let someone in, that it's OK to ask for help and yes there are actually people out there who will accept you for who you really are...if you let them that is.
The love connection between Claire and Jessie is intense! I was biting my nails and I had butterflies and I read this book in one sitting from 10% to finish. Once their emotional tirade begins it was impossible to put it down. I had to see how it all played out, I wanted so badly for them to be able to be together. I didn't like Claire at first, but as events played out I came to respect her. I liked Jessie from the beginning however. It started as pity, but then turned to adoration. He is just wonderful, completely selfless, surprisingly gentle and caring, and incredibly smart. He has had to grow up way to fast, and sometimes that can ruin a person, but I think it brought out the best in Jessie. I respect and admire him. And while I was skeptical of Claire at first, she definitely grew on me as well. She has a determination I envy and she feels so deeply it can be overwhelming.
I had a lot of fun reading this story, and it completely took me over from start to finish. It was a pretty quick and very easy read. Full of intense excitement, surprise twists, incredible love and attraction, it was an edge of your seat read for sure! I would recommend this read for sure for all fans of romance or YA! you should definitely add this one to your TBR, I had so much fun reading it, it invaded my brain and didn't let go until it was over. -
Jessie Boone is your typical oh so hot bad boy, who you can't help but fall in love with, especially as you begin to learn more about his story and his past. He's at a new high school, a star football player, he comes from the wrong side of town, and he has past that he would like to keep hidden. Claire Deveraux is the classic "high school sweetheart," a cheerleader, smart, sweet, and just happens to date the guy who got replaced by Jessie on the football team. What starts out as a game of revenge turns into something so much more. Jessie is the only one who sees past Claire's facade of being perfect, and she is the only one who sees past Jessie's hard outer shell to the great guy he is on the inside. The only problem is that they are from two different worlds, and as the reader, we get to experience what happens when those worlds collide.
This story will pull at your heartstrings, causing you to experience a wide variety of emotions. Georgia Cates has done an excellent job of putting you right in the middle of everything that is going on - all the heartache, the joy, the romance, the passion, the drama - you experience it all. I really loved the characters in this story. Claire's snarky friend Payton, was one of my favorites. I also liked Claire and admired the fact that she was able to see past "societies labels" and see Jessie for who he really is. I absolutely fell in love with Jessie Boone. OMG, he is one of my most favorite hot bad boys ever. He puts on this tough, hard exterior because the hand he has been dealt in life has been a hard one, and one that hasn't been fair. The chemistry between Jessie and Claire is off the charts. They face many obstacles in their relationship, some of which cause them to stumble and fall, and they don't always make the best choices, but love refuses to be denied and always manages to find a way.
I was hooked from page one and there was not a dull moment in the whole book. I was drawn into the story immediately, and although I felt as if my heart would breat sometimes, Georgia has inserted some humor in just the right places to perfectly balance things out. Georgia certainly delivered in the romance area to. It was really hot, and let me just say the ending absolutely blew me away - that is all I can say about that without giving too much away. If you are a lover of contemporary romance, this is one story you won't want to miss. -
So, all I can say is who hasn't walked down the halls of their high school (when they were in high school, admittedly it's been a while for me) and passed that one guy who is untouchable because he's from the other side of the tracks, but oh so hot? Jessie, Jessie, Jessie, my-my what have we here :) The great thing about this bad boy, under all that tough guy exterior is someone who really cares. And all that caring doesn't detract from his Alpha maleness. Claire, for me at first was frustrating, but I think she was a product of her place in society. As the story goes on we begin to see the real Claire, the one that is buried beneath the stereotypical popular chick. Going Under is a great book to just step out of real, messy life for a bit and enter someone else's mess- but who gets a happy ending :) Very enjoyable, at times very touching. Definitely a read to check out.

Jessie Boone is just starting in a new school full of rich kids after dire circumstances forced him to move in with his drug dealing grandma. Claire is the quintessential beautiful cheerleader dating the quarterback. But when Jessie and Claire come together, sparks fly.
But if they want to be together, they have more than their fair share of hurdles to get over. Claire needs to ditch her controlling, two timing boyfriend, and Jessie has to figure out a way to keep Claire from learning the sad truth about his life. Unfortunately for both of them, the truth always has a way of coming out.
As I was reading this, I definitely noticed it had a lot in common with
Pushing the Limits, but this book was published first (interesting.). However, I felt this story was better told.
The story is told from both Jessie and Claire's alternating points of view, which I loved. With a book that is so centered in a relationship, I believe it's important to get to see each person's true feelings.
Jessie put on a tough front, which of course was necessary for him to just make it through his everyday life. But I loved that he was sensitive even from the beginning. I know that sounds like a YA stereotype, but he was different. It's something I can't explain, you just need to read the book to understand.
Claire was OK on her own, but overall I enjoyed Jessie's chapters more. Claire's best friend Payton was actually more entertaining for me.
The chemistry between Claire and Jessie was sizzling and palpable, but the book actually keeps their physical contact pretty clean. I love that they didn't jump into bed together quickly. I believe this is important in YA books, and lets teen readers know that a relationship doesn't necessarily need sex for it to be hot.
As the book got to its' ending chapters I felt my emotions being wrenched. The story definitely got to me, and I loved the way it ended, even though it was a little bit too perfect.
I believe this is a book that everyone will love, and the author has a gift for making readers feel what the characters are feeling. -
I really liked this book. There were times I was laughing out loud! 2 things I loved was...
-I really felt the author captured the games and thoughts of how a high school girl thinks.
- It was fun to read from a boys perspective then flip to a girls. You really don't have to wonder what the other person is thinking.
-oh and something happens in the book I just didnt see it coming. How? Idk. But I was like "NO!!??"
The down side (nothing is ever perfect. right?) was the ending. I liked how every thing turned out. I just think there was a lot that had happen that would have been nice to read about rather then a quick run down.
Over all I really enjoyed it and will be recommending it to my friends to read. It was a quick, fun read. (at times I didn't want to keep reading because I didn't want it to end) :-)
Update- I had this at a 4 star, but then the author Wrote another chapter in her blog (new books will have it) about what happen. I can't believe a author would take the time to read what her readers want, and fix the problem! I am a big fan if for nothing else but that!!! Who does that?...just a amazing author!! -
As far as sweet, fun, touching summer reads go, this one was really awesome! I liked that the story was told from both Claire's and Jessie's POVs.<3 They are great characters (as in, with great, authentic, absolutely lovable personalities) and they develop a super cute, believable relationship. And I love Jessie!<3 (But you can't not love him. Really. I dare you to try.;)) And I read the book in one sitting and I'm still smiling, so... Enough said already.
P.S. I'm dying to read Payton's story!!! She's the kind of heroine I always enjoy reading about! Her POV is going to be so much fun, I just know it. And her guy must be reaaally special to put up with her. :D Can you say I'm excited? :))

Going Under.
Wow. Ok, before I get ahead of myself, let me say, what an intense, emotional and down-right good read. I had to borrow my friend’s kindle to read this because I don’t have one of my own.
Now, down to business;
This book is about your typical boy from the wrong side of town and the perfect girl (as it seems on the surface) from the right side. It’s about themselves as their character builds and their relationship.
Before I read this story, I did something that I think a lot of people do (don’t mean to offend anyone!), I judged it first on its cover (and what a great captivating cover!) then when I read the blurb, I assumed it’d be similar to Perfect Chemistry (Simone Elekes).
I thought that this would be just another way of writing the same scenario (and I was scared that I would keep comparing these two). In a way, I guess it is the same, I mean, I don’t think this situation that the characters are in is anything new. But, because all I’ve been reading (or lack thereof) has been fantasy and paranormal, this book was a really nice change. Maybe, it’s because of the change that I really loved reading this, but I think that this book would have been a great read regardless.
The novel started off really well and got straight into it. It was (I felt), a little rushed at times, but I really loved how everything turned out. I especially loved getting to know the characters and Claire’s story (her past) was a really nice break from all the stereotypes that I’ve came across. I think that little bit to her story really (but not entirely) broke her away from the past characters that we all come across.
And Jessie. Wow. Jessie. Need I say more? To those who haven’t read it, maybe, but I’m sure that once you read it (and you should!!), you’ll get what I mean. He is such a strong character and as I kept reading, I just fell more and more in love with him. (As I’m sure all readers will. Hopefully.). He is, I suppose, your average type of bad boy. However as you read, it turns out that he might not be after all.
I found the characters very relatable and I was able to really sympathise with certain parts and problems that these characters went through.
At the beginning they, well, for the lack of a better word, ‘toyed’ with each other. Both wanting to get together for very different reasons. Well, the intention, I think wasn’t to actually get together, but it turned out that way anyway.
The story, I thought was going to be just another fish in the pond, for want of a better phrase, but as I read it, it was ‘the’ fish in the pond (forgive my metaphor), and I was so, so glad that I decided to steal my friend’s kindle and read it.
I can’t wait till I can get my hands on it (I’m having a bit of trouble), because I’ll be visiting Claire and Jessie again for sure!
This novel is a great read and before you start thinking that it’s going to be similar to the Perfect Chemistry series, and in some ways it might be, stop that thought now, because in so many other ways, it’s not the same at all.
Read it. And hopefully like me, you’ll enjoy it and love it.

Yep you pretty much guessed it, bad boy from the wrong side of the track meets good girl from the rich part of town.
When Jessie gets to East Franklin High he is immediately hated. A- he is from Collinsville B- he has just been named the new Quarterback due to his awesomeness.
This makes Forbes Henderson one pissed off ex Quarterback. Jessie never backs down so takes everything that Forbes throws at him. Then just as payback he decides he's going to take Forbes girl, Claire too. Well just cos he can.
Claire is dreading going to school as Forbes has been a real downer lately since losing the starting position as Quarterback due to the new guy. The really hot new guy. The one that calls her Princess.
She knows what Jessie is up too.. Using her to get a rise out of Forbes. Two can play that game.
Claire and her best friend Payton decide that revenge is best served cold and decide to make Jessie think that Claire is into him and then crush him....

Well we can all see from a mile away that it won't work and they will fall madly in love, get married, have a gazillion kids and then a bajillion grandkids. But still its why we read them!!
This was a good read, a bit on the cutesy side at times, but at other times a bit hardcore. Great secondary characters, Payton was hilarious with some of the things she said.
Great flanter, a twist I did see coming but it was still good.
Now some people have complained about the epilogue jumping 3 years. I actually liked it, I mean they were seniors in High School in this book so I liked to see what happened in the future. It made me smile and it was the ending I was imagining!
I also read the sneak peek of book 2 Payton's book and decided to go and read that straight away as I liked Payton that much!

Going Under is such a touching story. It really is. It was so nice to see someone fight for someone and have such pure intentions. I loved the progression of the story, and I loved getting to know Jessie and Claire. Fans of contemporary romance need to check out this series!
Claire is a typical "perfect" teenager. She was smart and pretty and nice, but my favorite thing about her was her spunk. She is super feisty and it was so much fun to read about her and her best friend, Payton. Jessie rolls into town and right away he makes an enemy- of the quarter back he is about to replace, and Claire's boyfriend. So I knew this book was going to be drama right from the start. But it is so much fun to read, and like most reality shows(or whatever your guilty pleasure is) it totally sucked me in. I liked that jessie was kind of a bad boy at the start. It made him seem realistic. he wasn't head over heels from page one, but the more he saw of claire the more he liked. It just flowed. I could feel their feelings start to develop. That is what I loved the most. plus once you got to know the real jessie, he is such an angel!
Plus, I love the way Claire always fought for him. It was so nice because no one has ever cared enough about him to stick up for him. It was almost like the two of them against the world and I was totally on their side. This is such a sweet, sweet love story. Rich girl, poor troubled boy. It is not an original idea but there is a reason that it is a popular plotline. When it is done well, it can be compelling and super cute. and Going Under was certainly done well! I really hope there is a book 3. I want to see what is going on with Jessie and Claire when they go away to college and before the "3 years later" part at the end. -
This book should have been titled Shallow. Everything in this story just skimmed the surface and never went there. THERE were everything hurts and gets messy and ugly. This story had so much potential and the bones were there, but the writing wasn't good enough and the author seemed too afraid to go for it. She dipped her pen in, but didn't go all the way. There were so many things she could have done with this story.
The main characters, Jessie Boone, bad boy by circumstances only, and Claire Devereaux fall for each other (insta love) in a weeks time. This undying, fire searing, love. Claire is sure she will die without Jessie.
Forbes is a problem one time and that's it. There, that was some potential right there that never came to be. It was all hyped up and just never happened.
Then there's the fact that Jessie deals drugs for his grandmother. He has them in his backpack at school. Why not bust him for them? Make some drama there? Nope. Doesn't happen.
So many good ideas in there, but the author doesn't let them happen. She pulls back from seeing where the story would go if they did. So instead the story is very vanilla and not much happens. There was a little bit of drama but not enough to rate it any higher.
I gave the two stars for Payton the best friend. She's got an awesome mouth and a wicked sense of humor. I'm reading the second book which is about her and funnily enough named Shallow. I think Payton could carry a story.

Reconozco que suena superficial pero no puedo evitar fijarme en las portadas de los libros antes de decidir si leerlo o no y esta historia tiene una portada hermosa, asi que la añadi a mi lista de lecturas.
He leido muchisimos libros con el tema chica rica-chico pobre o chica buena-chico malo, algunos muy buenos, otros malos y otros muy malos y aun asi me sigue encantando leer sobre ese tema.
Esta historia es perfecta cuando no quieres nada demasiado complicado o profundo sino relajarte con una lectura sencilla y muy entretenida, y aunque rode los ojos en algunas ocasiones donde los cliches eran demasiados, disfrute mucho mientras leia.
Aunque al principio la historia parezca un poco floja, segun vas leyendo coge mejor ritmo y el caracter de los personajes se va profundizando, tambien me encanto la pareja protagonista, se me hicieron muy dulces y tiernos juntos.
Estoy deseando leer la historia de Payton!

Like all that Forbes stuff...that push and pull...her getting back with Forbes, like WTF?

Jessie Boone is a bad boy. He's from the wrong side of town, covered in tattoos, is poor, and has a bad home life. The one thing he is good at is football. He needs a scholarship to get out of the mess of a life he's been living. Jessie has transferred to another school on the good side of town, where he is challenging the current quarterback for the starting position. Forbes Henderson isn't going to back down. He tries taking Jessie out of the running, but Jessie won't back down. He retaliates by planning to steal Forbes' girlfriend Claire.
Claire Deveraux is the perfect daughter, student, cheerleader, friend, and girlfriend. When Jessie starts pursuing Claire, she decides to turn the tables. What Claire doesn't expect is to actually fall for the guy. He's crude and totally inappropriate, but when Claire gets paired up with him in class, she begins to see the real Jessie. Jessie starts to abandon his plan for revenge against Forbes when he really does fall for Claire.
Once Jessie and Claire make the decision to pursue the relationship, Jessie's past comes back to haunt him. He has to make the decision to let Claire go and put her in harm's way or follow his heart.
My Take:
OH MY GOSH! I just don't even know where to start with this book. It's SOOOOO much more than I expected. I don't mean to be all fangirl about it, but seriously...this is the best book I've read in a while (and I've been lucky to read some really good books lately)! When I first read the synopsis of the book for the blog tour, I thought it was definitely up my alley. I never expected it to have so much depth to the story. This is not just some opposites attract kind of story.
We meet Jessie first and right away I knew I would fall in love with him. I have somewhat of a weak spot for the bad boy I suppose. The thing is though that Jessie is smart, has tremendous athletic ability, responsible, wants to be better, and has faith for a better future. Despite the negative and violent life he's been exposed to, Jessie is able to overcome the adversity.
Then we meet Claire. I'll admit that in the beginning of the story, I was somewhat indifferent to her. Yes, she's cute, smart, perfect in every way, but as the story develops you see that she's much more sincere. Claire's rich and has parents that fully support her, but she has a background story that surprised me a bit. I love that she was able to see the real Jessie and that she decides to follow her heart regardless of what her friends and family may think. So, ultimately, I ended up LOVING Claire.
I have to mention Payton, who is Claire's best friend. She nearly stole the show for me. Payton is an absolute RIOT! Her personality reminds me so much of myself. She values her friendship with Claire and I love that she supported Claire even when she had her doubts about Jessie. She trusted that Claire would make the right decision.
As I said before, I just can't say enough good things about the story. There were so many surprises as the story developed, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was much more complex than what I originally expected. I laughed and cried on the same page! As summer approaches, this book would be a perfect beach/poolside read. I couldn't put the book down. I HAD to finish it in one sitting. Adults and YA will connect with this story. Beautifully done! This book is going in my re-reads and favorites for sure! -
Summary
Jessie has to go live with his grandmother so he has to transfer from one school to another. He becomes the first string quarterback at his new school and as a result makes an enemy of last year’s quarterback Forbes. When Forbes tries to injure him in order to get his spot back Jessie vows to not only keep his spot on the team but to take Forbes’s girlfriend also.
Claire is fascinated with the new guy especially his tattoo. After being paired with him in a class and slowly learning more about him she thinks there is more to him than meets the eye. When Jessie embarrasses her in front of the school body she vows to get him to fall for her and then dump him to embarrass him back.
As they both go along they find each other falling for one another. Claire also falls for Jessie’s two younger brothers who have been placed in foster care. When Claire’s parents meet Jessie they try to keep them apart. Jessie and Claire try to be just friends but it was becoming to hard. Just when Claire’s parents seem to be coming around tragedy strikes.
Review
I couldn’t put this book down. I loved everything about this book. If you haven’t read this book yet what are you waiting for!!! Go get it now! Five stars!!!
Plot – I really enjoy the bad boy meets good girl plot. The characters were well developed and the plot kept me interest to the end. The romance was intense and unavoidable because even though they seem to come from different worlds there had a lot in common.
POV – I also enjoyed this book being from Jessie and Claire’s point of view. It gave us insight on both of them.
Characters – Forbes was such a jerk. The things he did and said I don’t know how Claire could possibly stand him. Jessie was a typical bad boy up to a point but he had layers that he kept hidden. He was smart, hard-working and would rather follow the rules. His circumstances that he was forced to endure no child or adult should have to but unfortunately some do. Claire was a perfect good girl but she wasn’t happy that way. She felt she would let everyone down if she did something that was not expected of her. She found Jessie and he brings out the wilder side of her. Jessie and Claire seem to balance each out.
Ending – The ending was great. It tied up all loose ends and gave a happy ending. Hmmm wonder how Forbes ended up maybe he got what was coming to him? Anyway like I said definitely worth reading this book.
