Long Night Moon (Seasons of the Moon, #3) Reviews

3,5/5
This is one series that I've consistently enjoyed and book 3 is no exception. It's a little bit dark, a little bit angsty (in a good way) and it features one ball busting werewolf girl and the boy who loves her.
Rylie is both terribly complicated and incredibly straightforward as a character. There are times when she's driven almost exclusively by her wolf's needs which basically consist of gathering her pack close, protecting her territory and hunting. Then the girl side of her comes out and she is wracked by guilt over her actions. She's complex.
Seth is trying to make something of himself. He stood up to his mom and stayed with a girl who he should have hunted. He loves her but she's a danger to him. His brother is suddenly showing an interest in Rylie that he hadn't shown before and it confuses Seth and sets his inner alarm bells ringing. I do enjoy the relationship between Seth, Abel and Rylie. It's sticky and messy and things look like they're only going to get worse before they get better.
Rylie's future is up in the air at the end of the book. She needs to gain a measure of control over her wolf before she causes even more damage than she has already. The question becomes whether she'll be able to learn that control before she loses herself completely. I'm ready to see how all this plays out.

Long Moon Night was incredibly trying on my FEELS. It ripped me apart and had me begging for mercy; but it did not provide. It tore my heart out and crushed it right in front of me. This book was absolutely merciless.
There are new wolves in town; a small family of three, their two kids being the ones of were-nature and the father being Wiccan. Quite the odd family, for sure. Though does their strangeness also mean that they are capable of mass-murder? What are they doing in such an obscure little town? More importantly, what do they want with Rylie?
The constant suspicions of Rylie, Seth, and Abel kept me on constant guard around these newcomers. Though they appeared fairly harmless, I found it hard to trust Bekah and Levi. There was just something not right about their unique abilities; the things they could do, no other known wolf had ever accomplished, which increased my suspicions of them all-the-more. Still not quite sure how I feel about them. They seem alright, but I still think they are hiding something.
I am seriously growing to love Abel. A bit vicious and hard-assed, he might be, but his dry humor and excitable attitude are driving me nuts with affection for him. I cannot WAIT to see what this final book will have in store for him, and especially for Rylie as well.
This story does not leave off on a promising note for poor Rylie, and I pray she finds the help that she so desperately needs. I am also kind of disappointed to find out that Rylie may not be so special or different from other werewolves after all. Very disheartening. -
Compulsively readable. Gritty and brutal. Werewolves just don't seem to get happy endings.
Long Night Moon continues the story of Rylie Gresham and her struggle to manage her affliction while attempting to live a normal life. Reine begins to expand her fictional world by introducing a new set of characters with interesting abilities. While the characters are teenagers and the setting and scenarios revolve around high school, school dances and teenage shenanigans, this has been a series that pulls no punches with regards to tackling mature themes and brutality. Reine does an excellent job of balancing the gritty details with character development and interpersonal drama so that the narrative never descends into a total gore fest. -
One of the things I love about this series is things are very often not what they seem and there are always surprises that crop up and this installment has a whopper. I really enjoy this series each episode presents Rylie and Seth with new challenges. This time someone is killing people in the area and all signs point to a wolf and they have to find out who this is and stop it. This is a fun ride and the storytelling continues to entertain and make me want more. Definitely recommend this book, but do recommend the series be read in order to fully enjoy the continuity of the continuing adventure.

I really am enjoying this series. I know, odd for me to like a book about werewolves, much less a whole series. I love S. M. Reine's writing, her characters, plots. I feel I am in the story from the very start. I will keep this short as I want to move on to book #4. The author is happy to have readers and encourages lending of her books. If anyone is curious I'd be happy to lend. Also, you may find a good deal, possibly free, at one point or another. Go look up her FaceBook or website to learn more.

Rylie is a werewolf. She has a werewolf hunting boyfriend named Seth. Seth has a brother named Abel who does not get along with Rylie. Rylie lives with her aunt Gwyneth. Someone is killing people in the town where Rylie lives. Is it a werewolf? Two new kids show up at school; they are werewolves too. However, they are able to wear silver jewelry. They claim that they are there to protect Rylie from Seth and Abel.
-
Umm wow... so exciting couldn't put it down.
-
Good series. I liked seeing more of Able in this one. *Needs a good editor, there were names character names, that were used incorrectly. I am just wierd that way....I notice stuff like that.
-
These books just keep getting better and better. I love the flow of the story. I really love the characters. I can't wait until the next book.
-
Not a bad series but it still sits in that luke warm, mediocre category for me. One of the freebies on iBooks. The thing I'm not seeing here is character development and that's what I want. 2.5 stars

SM Reine does it again! Long Night Moon is a great next chapter in the "Seasons of the Moon" YA urban fantasy series that Reine has built, and as with the other two novels, I was HIGHLY entertained.
In terms of plot, "Long Night Moon" wasn't nearly as suspenseful as its predecessors, BUT the book certainly develops the larger world of the werewolf in a wonderful way. We get to see, bit by bit, who is actually a part of this world, and it's not JUST werewolves! We also get to see all the challenges that werewolves, especially Rylie, has to deal with, especially in terms of dealing with the human side vs. the wolf side.
Reine does an excellent job of bringing a lot of humanity to her characters, and she's also great at following human logic and natural reactions to the weird happenings around town. She's also not afraid to trouble the relationships and loyalties of her characters, and that always makes for super engaging, never predictable dynamics surrounding love, loyalty, duty, and friendship.
Long Night Moon, as well as the "Seasons of the Moon" series in general is a great YA series, and I'm super excited to pass it on to my daughter when she gets old enough! -
Rylie wants to get away from everyone and everything she ever knew. She realizes that her life will never be the same now that she changes into a werewolf. She doesnt want to hurt anyone so she figures the safest place she can go to is her Aunt Gwens ranch. She figures that there will be plenty of wildlife around to feed her hunger when she is a werewolf.
living with her aunt isnt easy, Aunt Gwen wants her to go back to school and help out with the animals and ranch chores, but the animals are frightened of her, so Rylie does other chores instead.
School isnt so hot either, she tries to keep a low profile but some of the kids get on her nerves and she has to fight to keep her werewolf side hidden.
Rylie and Seths brother Abel dont like each other, Able wants to kill Rylie because she is a werewolf but because his brother is in love with her he puts up with her. Rylie and Able do have a confrontation and she bites him and now Able is a werewolf as well.
This is another great book in this series, keeps me fully engaged, looking forward to the final book to see how things get resolved... -
This is probably the best book out of the series. Rylie grows a lot in this novel, as does Seth. It is really cool reading more of Gwyn, she is probably my favorite side character in this series. The new characters introduced in this novel are pretty aggravating and I didn't really care about them, even if they WERE new werewolves and you would think that would be interesting. In fact, the concept of other werewolves is more interesting than the execution.
The plot and the plot twist of the novel is, again, the best of the series. We got to learn more about the werewolves and that was really nice. It is darker than the other novels and that works very well with the subject matter. The entirety of the novel is more mature. This book left me really excited to finish the series.
Pros:
-LGBT representation
-Good plot twist
-Gory and gritty, more mature than previous novels
Cons:
-Sketchy Wiccan representation (coming from a practicing Wiccan, was a bit insulting)
-Yet again, very short
-Aggravating new characters -
This is 3rd in series and danger looming on town something is killing innocent people around Rylie Gresham's town. The police think it's a wild animal, but she has other suspicions. There are new kids at school, Bekah, Levi and they have a lot in common with her: gold eyes, super strength, and a habit of turning furry. It seems Rylie's not the only werewolf around anymore.
It's up to Rylie and her werewolf-hunting boyfriend, Seth, to stop the killings. But saving lives doesn't come naturally to a monster, and territory battles could risk the life of her sickly aunt--not to mention her own. Rylie has no choice but to stand her ground, protect her home, and stop the murderers before anyone else gets hurt. The unknown enemy who silver poison them make sick and lost there control but things go out of hand when Tate mother got killed and Rylie unintentionally hurt her aunt , but then they left town for her medical conditions and move to gray mountain among the other werewolves and without Seth. -
I felt a lot of emotions while reading this book. I didn't know where it was going in certain places, if someone would die, or if Rylie was going to change how she felt about Seth. It certainly kept me on my toes! The werewolf changing scenes at the end were spectacular, too. I won't spoil what it's like, but the imagery had me totally creeped out. There's also an excellent balance of Riley and Seth as high school students -- formal dance, kissing and intimacy, school work and classrooms -- but Reine never lets you forget these two are different from the other students. And she never compromises the reality of her story in order to make the characters seem more sexy or perfect, which I hate in other novels. I love that Reine ended on this excellent cliff hanger, too. I'm so glad all the books are published so I can jump right into the next one.

I am really enjoying these YA books.
I love Ryrie's story of trying to live with the fear and loathing of being a werewolf.
The man she loves is a hunter, so what could possibly go wrong?
Two new wolves move into the town where Ryrie and Seth live, and at first they are seen as a threat as their adopted father is a Wiccan witch who can curb their behaviours with a degree of success.
Looking forward to the next book. -
While the story progressed and took an unexpected turn towards the end, the change in pov’s suddenly after only seeing Riley’s POV in the first two, I was thrown off and made the connection to the story less amusing. I still enjoyed it and am looking forward to finishing the series.
-
I keep enjoying the books in this series. Darker and with additional twists.
-
Hmmm, interesting story but characters are hard to like. Snobby, too obsessed with designer clothes and how people look, etc. Hard to root for a heroine that's a bit of a whiny bitch.

Plan and simple, I think the author has changed too much for my liking. Maybe that's why I have so many issues with this series. I just can't get my brain to come to terms with this as being something new. I keep comparing it to other werewolf stories I've read.
That's just a forewarn to whoever wants to read this review. I can't help but notice things, and always end up with a lot of comments/questions at the end of reading.
Straight away we learn that Rylie or the werewolve Rylie has been doing lots of killing again. Animals that is. Why have they not learned yet? Yeah, killing animals might not be that big of a deal, better than people right? But at the same time, those animals are probably on someone's farm, hence money lost. Hello! What happened to the cage in the last book? Get rid of the wolfsbane and keep Rylie in that while she's a werewolf. Am I the only that has a problem with no one being smart enough to keep her confined? You'd think Rylie would have come up with something herself, like after she realized what was happening. Very stupid!
I find it funny that Rylie actually has a problem wearing a fur lined coat. Um...there is such thing as fake fur!
As far as I know, the first time that Rylie did a...certain parts change(?) was when she was in class and met Bekah. That was her hands growing the claws. Yet maybe it's just me, but I thought this would be a big deal for her. Obviously I was wrong on this count though, because it was never really mentioned as something Wow!
What ever happened to Abel in the last book after Rylie bit him? It's never really mentioned. Then suddenly he's changing into a werewolf.
Rylie sees Bekah across the street after she leaves her therapist session. Bekah goes around the corner and comes back out as a 'shaggy dog.' Yet later refers to Bekah as having been able to change into a werewolf during the day. I don't get that part. You can definitely
tell the difference between a wolf/werewolf and a 'shaggy' dog.
Is it just because Rylie still has no control, that she can't handle being around other werewolves, weak people and all that? It's like she's constantly thinking of everyone as food.
How was it possible that after that first farmer (the guy down the road from them) was killed, that it wasn't until later that evening that Rylie's aunt found out about it? Strange..
Why did no one really go up to the Reise twins when they first arrived to find out what was going on? Instead they just hid in the shadows assuming the worst.
Let me just say that I can't imagine any moment every being perfect for kissing if it involves kissing someone that has just killed a bunch of animals and has blood and yuckiness in his/her mouth (Book 2, after Rylie kills the goats) or when first waking up in the morning (Book 3).
Who is Tyler? He is mentioned, but I don't remember him being in the last book either.
Why is it that Seth thinks Rylie will be fine going to the winter dance when it comes on a "Moon Day?" What a joke! I mean she can barely handle herself on a regular day.
My favorite line in this story: "I'm going to crawl into the duck pond and die." hahaha
There was a part, I don't remember where exactly, but Rylie mentions (I wanna say to her aunt) that the dance is on the 23rd, Christmas Eve.....Notice a problem here?
Why does Rylie have a harder time with Tate dating a werewolf, then finding out that he's gay?
How was it possible that after living in California, Rylie had no clue what a Wiccan was? Or that a pentagram doesn't always mean Satan? What year is this series suppose to be taking place in?
Either way, I didn't like this series at all. -
This is book three in the wonderful Seasons of the Moon series By S. M. Reine and it certainly keeps the reader engrossed. It’s fast paced from the first page right until the end and even then I was sitting there wanting more and practically shouting NO! to anyone who would listen. This book stirred up so many emotions in me, it was superb. That ending is a killer and it’s now got a place in my heart for books that keep the reader guessing and then completely blow their mind. Reine has really upped the notch in this novel and the stakes just keep getting higher.
Long Night Moon begins when Seth stumbles upon a dead farmer, who has literally been torn apart by an animal. When Rylie turns back to her human self, she wants to know if it was her but Seth reassures her it wasn’t as he followed her most of the night. Seth discovers there have been more killings recently and what’s even more suspicious is the two new werewolves who have just moved to town. Rylie knows she will need to show the intruders that this is her territory and they need to back off but it seems these new werewolves know a lot more than Rylie and they just want to talk to her. Things aren’t what they seem and things in Rylie's personal life aren’t any better. Her aunt is seriously ill and her boyfriend’s brother might be turning into a werewolf. Then there’s the matter of the school dance, add in two new werewolves and a bunch of killings and things really aren’t going to go smoothly. Rylie and co need to put a stop to these killings before someone else gets seriously hurt.
In this novel we get to see Rylie battle some more of her personal demons. She has to cope with her ill aunt and this puts so much pressure on her to do things right. We see her struggle to cope while the wolf wants to prey on this weak victim. Rylie also has to cope with a threat to her territory which is a first for her and the wolf is not going to stay quiet for long. There’s also this new attraction to Abel, Seth’s brother, which excites the wolf inside of her. Rylie has to battle so many of her inner demons while keeping a cool head and trying to act as normal as possible. But it’s so hard and we see her struggle with it and you just want to go and hug her. She does grow a lot in this book and learns many new lessons that she will need in the future.
We get a few chapters from Seth’s point of view which is rather interesting in this novel. We get to see how he interacts with his brother and how he’s cautious of this new side to his brother. These new werewolves were different… to say the least. I didn’t like them though no matter how much they tried to help Rylie and prove they were friends I just couldn’t get past the fact that they turned up in her territory and flaunted in front of her. Oh and the weird Wiccan man was giving off some horrible vibes and I didn’t like him at all.
I did really enjoy Long Night Moon although some things I wasn’t so sure about such as the new additions to the cast of characters but I can live with that. The mystery was brilliant, maybe even better than usual. The action was fast paced and gosh that ending was mind-blowing. It was so good. I just can’t begin to fathom how? Reine you really do keep your readers on their feet.
