Apart some good psychological points here and there, I think this book is completely outdated and sometimes dreadful!

It doesn't have much that we don't already know but the principles of 'transactional analysis' applied to interactions between a child and a parent is useful. Big take away is that there is only one person you can really change - and that is you ! When you do change your behaviour (make it consistent, encouraging, set limits and let kids operate in those, build self esteem of kids etc.), the response from the child also changes (for the better) and that is the way to raise responsible, emotionally mature, independent children.
