Natural Magick (Aaron's Kiss, #3) Reviews
-
'Natural Magick' is the third book in Kathi S. Barton's "Aaron's Kiss" series and the Kiss is growing, not only with beings but with magical power. Seems everyone in town knows Pete, aka Piccadilly. Most think Pete Bartholomew is a man and she's okay with that. She has mad skills when it comes to computers, software, and business skills. That's what she does for a living but what she does with the income from those skills blew my mind. Duncan, one of my favorite characters in this series, was the one to call Pete and ask her to help them with new computers for the estate. That's what brought her and the Kiss together in the first place. If you've read the blurb, then you know Dominic was really sick and tired of hearing about Pete and great he was. Coming home a day earlier than expected he heard Pete and Brett talking in the pantry while working but when a woman came out and she smelled like nutmeg, Dominic lost his cool and unleashed an unwarranted verbal assault that had Pete immediately leaving and Brett in tears while doubling up a fist to hit him in the stomach. Yes, that's the beginning of the path towards those two being fated mates. There is so much action, adventure, twists, and turns while tempers fly. The chemistry between these two is intense. The mystery about what Pete actually is is discovered and it will take all of them to face the evil of Pete's family who has been working with Sherman. There was no way I could read this without becoming totally submerged and feeling like I was there in the middle of things. You won't want to miss this one for sure.

I was truly interested in what kind of mate that Ms. Barton was going to give Dominic Marshal and I have to say that she couldn't have picked a better one then Piccadilly Bartholomew or "Pete. Dominic is as stubborn as they come when it comes to mates and he has bias towards humans. When we are introduced to Pete, we find out that she is one take charge, take no prisoners type of female who does not bow to male superiority complex's. Because of the individual strength of each of these characters the reader is in for an interesting if not amusing ride. This story starts with a bang and it keeps momentum right up to the end. The interactions between all the characters are explosive, fun and made me laugh out loud more times then I can count. The storyline was interesting, well written, fast paced and filled with lots of information. I love getting to see past characters in each new story and seeing how they have grown as time went on. The supporting characters add depth to the storyline, keep the family feeling and help keep you connected to family as each new member joins the kiss. I look forward to the next story.
I volunteered to read this story for my honest opinion. -
This story is of a vampire that had been given a rad life since being turned and that the master and the hidden secrets to a scary past. Dominic is reluctant to take on the one woman that is just for him due to his past and his master that he is tied to. With the help of the mast that he is on loan is he able to overcome his fear and insecurities to be with is turn mate.

I liked Pete and the mystery that surrounded her story. Nice edition to the Kiss. Sherman just cannot stay away!

The first paragraph of the description is great and it made me want to read this book immediately. I put it off for a long time because I haven't actually read the first two books. I finally gave in and was able to follow the story well enough. But I think I probably did miss out some. The story here does stand on its own, but the events of the previous books are referenced and all of the characters are only vaguely described. I assume fuller descriptions were previously given and what was here was only meant as a reminder. That detracted from my enjoyment a little, but no one to blame on the one but myself.
Pete was a fun character. I appreciated her straight shooting, no nonsense attitude. Dominic was just your average PNR vampire alpha mate. (Though he wasn't actually THE alpha vamp here. Aaron was.) There wasn't much about him that stood out for me. He was completely made up for in the character of Duncan though. Duncan was the light of this book. I adored him. I don't know what species he was supposed to be, but I still wanted to hug him to death.
Everything in the book moves quickly, too quickly, unbelievably quick. Pete gains the trust and admiration of everyone she meets immediately. She does one job for a company and so impresses them that they purposefully overpay her and offer her a stellar full-time job. Dominic knows she is his mate within seconds of scenting her. One moment he and Pete are having their 2nd somewhat civil conversation, the next they're lip locked and racing for the bedroom. One paragraph he's apologising for the pain caused when he breaks her hymn, the next she is bent over a chair screaming "f_ck me harder"...and within a week they've moved on to what some would call kinky fetish play. She has to confront her mother, stepfather (essentially) and seven brothers. Then dispatches all nine of them in about two pages, despite never previously fighting with her abilities.
It was very apparent early on, from the tone and everyone's hearts and flowers acceptance of Pete that this was not going to be a book in which anything bad was allowed to happen to the heroine. That's just what it proved to be, a litany of happy outcomes. Kind of takes some of the enjoyable tension away when you know the outcome from the beginning. But if you're the type that really likes a lot of mushy affirmations and a predictable HEA this is the book for you. (I know that sounds snarky, but I was being serious.)
Lastly and on a side note, I would just like to point out for the record, and I know I'm probably being pedantic by mention it, but the cover has NOTHING to do with the book. Not once does Pete or anyone else carry a sword and while the dogs are cute, her mate is a vampire not a werewolf. I'm just sayin'. -
Our main character, Pete, or Picadilly Fresno Bartholomew is a fresh, bold character right from the start. She is the kind of character that grabs the world by the balls and takes off running. You have to admire the gusto of this woman, who’s taken on a male name as if to say screw you stereotypical jerks, I’m doing me just fine. She is an amazingly talented computer genius, who is doing many odds and ends jobs to help others who are less fortunate. This is how she got involved with Aaron’s Kiss, a group of vampires run by the master vampire, Aaron.
When Pete arrives at the house she helps them get their hive in the 21st century introducing every aspect of technology imaginable, even teaching them how to make their fortress more secure. While Pete is working at the house she is accosted by Dominick, the most persnickety male vampire you have ever met. Well, he’s only a clueless jerk for so long, until he realizes that Pete is his one true mate. From here, well Pete saves a few babies, making her a target for the family she has left behind: mass murderers delving in magick that is so dark not even black describes the color.
Throw in some of the hottest, and I mean scorching lava filled scenes and you definitely have an engaging story. Vampires who take what they want and never once do they ask for permission. Oh my, my, my! I have another book from Ms. Barton to read as well and I’m thinking I need to get the fan started before I open it up. It’s going to be a hot one! -
This book was not for me. Perhaps I might've liked it better if I'd read the other books in the series but I doubt it. It reads like a short story...there is little to no character development, things randomly happen without (or little) explanation, eh plot and little/no world building.
I could've lived past the obnoxious characters bc some of them I liked but I always felt like I was playing catch up. I liked Pete and could even look past the lingo she used but the getting caught for hacking really bugged me. If she was so good how/why did she get caught (other then it made a good story)? It was an attention grabbing way to start the book that I would've enjoyed more with a bit of explanation/reasoning. I liked that she was a computer geek but it hit the point that enough was enough.
Now on to her relationship with Dominic... He goes from screaming at her to him alone to I love you in no time flat. She goes from not wanting to have anything todo with him and being a virgin to screwing like bunnies. The relationship moves really quickly for a 200+ page book.
Computer geek+ paranormal+mates= yes please... What I got was too much computer talk, paranormal soup, and having to make lots of assumptions.
The book had some good ideas but lacked a solid foundation to make it great. The sex was the best thing about this book. -
I liked Pete's story. Her life, running from her family was something I could read more about.
Soon the author introduces a very strong segment in the plotline of paranormal now playing towards two audiences.
A third element is soon after introduced. One of explicit sex.
I think the author has three seperate strong story lines here but that she did not quite make it merge well for me as reader.
The explicit sex scenes will make this book desirable to thousands.
The paranormal aspect will play to that audience as most of these books do.
It is Pete's story I would have liked to read. The one where she lives on the border of abject poverty to look after her friends.
The story where she ran from home because not only her mom/parents are horrible human beings but they are joined by her brother.
I would have loved to read more about she became a hacker and I would have loved to see how her story with her family gets resolved.
I know one thing though, you will either hate this book or love it.
Personally it is not my favourite. I give it 3 * because the potential is apparent.

Piccadilly aka "Pete" Bartholomew has been living on her own since she was a teen after running away from her brothers and mother. She makes an honest living even if people keep accusing her of stealing from others. She's a no nonsense girl who honestly could care less what others think about her. She doesn't want or like her magic and has been keeping a lid on it since running away. But in order to save the MacManus twins she'll have to open that door and risk her family finding her.
Dominic Marshall has recently joined Aaron's kiss, and has no intentions of ever finding a woman to hold him down. But when he meets Pete and smells her cinnamon and nutmeg scent he knows he's found a mate and lets her know he has no intentions of letting her tie him down.
But when trouble comes their way these two can't deny the passion that flares whenever they're in the same room together.
Great book and addition to the series. I love getting to read books that don't have the main characters falling in love when their eyes meet. These two fight all they way to the end and even after bonding!
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book** -
I really recommend reading the prior books to understand who all the characters are. It is not a necessity but really does make knowing everyone easier.
Another powerful woman joins the Kiss.
I really enjoyed this story. Loved Pete/Piccadilly and how she was helping so many people, so unassuming.
The fact she also ends up a member of Bradley’s pack too, really ties everything together nicely.
What she did for Sara and the babies was amazing.
Dominic was a typical male. Foot in mouth disease at first scent of his mate. Stubborn, stupid, bossy and dominating. Normal vampire male really.
Though this all wrapped up well and I loved what happened to all the nasty family, and that Sherman finally gets his just dues, what about the poor person killed by Ares in the storage unit? Will his body be found?
Loved Bradley cocking his leg on the brother.
This was worse than the previous two books in lacking good editing and/or proofreading. Way too many errors have been left, leaving it like a rough draft edition.
Read many, many, years ago and reread in the box set. -
This is the third book in the Aaron's Kiss Series - Dominic is a Vampire and has sworn his allegiance to Aaron. Lately all the women have been saying is how great Pete is - he is so tired of hearing this and is ready to deck Pete and drain him.
Piccadilly, better known as Pete, is in trouble. She has to fix the computer problems she caused and tell them how she did it. She meets Duncan who works for Aaron and agrees to help him purchase computers and set them up and also after this agrees to fix the security system for Aaron.
When Dominic finally meets "Pete" he can't believe he is a she and that she is his mate and wants absolutely nothing to do with her. Pete is also hiding from her family who wants to do unthinkable things to her. Can Dominic save her from them and will he take her as his mate? Another awesome book by Kathi S Barton. -
Favorite Line A wood nymph? I don't understand. Aren't they like fairies or something
Another great book for this series! This one didn't disappoint it was great seeing the vamp who would never be tied down finally meet his match! I so enjoy how each of the her ones in this series are amazing strong independent woman! Pete (she is a girl her name is Piccadilly) is a genius at the computer but, like so many of the woman in this series that's not all. Then there is Dominic ha ha Dominic is convinced he will never take a mate! HA!
This part of the series had some AMAZING magic! Really amazing. Some funny parts too! Imagine this, a woman who names her kids after the gods.. Ha ha ha!
FOUR WOOD NYMPH FAIRIES -
Another Magick adventure with awesome author Kathi Barton.
What I love about this series are the strong characters in these books. But in particular the strong women - they can stand up to their man and stand on their own, but they also know when to share the strength of their mates.
In this adventure we meet Dominic Marshall and Pete Bartholomew. Dominic is in for the surprise of his life and Pete finds her roots and helps a friend as well.
Pete plays a vital role in Aaron and Sara's life. Once again the is alot of humor and love though out this episode.
Loved this book. Awesome author Kathi Barton does it again for me. -
Excellent!
Dominic & Pete's story has evil brothers, an evil mom, Sherman & everyone else from the 1st & 2nd books in it. In this book Sherman the ex-mate to the Queen finally gets his. Pete is a computer genius & 1st meets Dominic when she's at Aaron's house setting them up with a computer & gaming systems. He knows immediately that she's his mate & he like Aaron & Colin before him 1st denies it & says it right to Pete who gets so mad immediately leaves. They get together & mate after Pete delivers Aaron's & Sara's twins at a restaurant. This is a HEA story& a very excellent one too. -
Wonderful story with characters that you wish were your friends. Pete is unique. From the moment you realize "he" is a "she" to the end where she confronts her family, she is someone you will not forget. Dominic is a bit of an a** but manages to change his way of thinking and redeem his character. This is one of my favorite Kathi S. Barton books and why she has become a "must buy" for me.
-
I got to say this is a great series so far !
the story picks right where the other leaves off..
I really series like that and also includes
all the players from the books before that ..
A another great series by Kathi Barton -
Very good read. I've noticed that in each of her books she tackles a difficult subject. In this book it deals with child abuse. I felt Kathi did a great job of conveying the emotions of people trying to help.
-
Love the Interaction between DOminic and Pete.
I hated that Dominic treated her so badly by screaming at her in the beginning but I love that he ask her for forgiveness and said sorry.
I love Pete (Picadilly) who was so straight forward and didn't hold her tongue.
Can't wait for book 4. -
This was my favorite so far of the Aaron's Kiss series. I adore Pete, she is a very spunky honest character. I stayed up super late b/c I couldn't stop reading!! Thanks for such a wonderful story.
-
Overall I enjoyed the book. But, there were times I was overwhelmed with trying to remember all the characters.
-
This is the third book in the series I definitely want to read the first two because this book is great! A fun humorous read that will keep you entertained.
