Lunch or lover? That is the question that appears in werewolf Brody’s mind when he meets lamb shifter Carson. The answer is easy. Simply looking into Carson’s innocent blue eyes tells him that the lamb is his mate. If he’s going to eat Carson up, they’ll both enjoy it.
Carson has been isolated by his flock due to his inability to grow into a strong ram. When he is unexpectedly attacked by his half-brother, he does not expect being rescued by a wolf—let alone falling in love with him.
But in spite of Brody and Carson’s feelings, there are other forces at work, and people who don’t agree with Brody’s new plans and diet. If Brody can’t find a way to save their bond, Carson might become lunch, after all.
The Lamb Who Cried Wolf (Mate or Meal #1) Reviews

I enjoyed the book overall, it was amusing and funny in parts. I think I enjoyed it a lot more in the first half than last. So yeah lots of WTF going on but I did still like the story and would recommend it for someone in the mood for something different and not too heavy or horribly angsty. There is Angst but not an unbearable amount. I am looking forward to reading the Swan Book next.
The cover though I am not sure a sheep between two gay guys. I was kind of wondering if I should laugh or be offended. I went with laughing because sheep are funny.
So if you suffered through my review this far you deserve some jokes, cause like I said sheep are funny
What did the Cloned Sheep say to the other sheep?
I am ewe
This one is for Jess What do you call safe sex in Australia?
Marking an 'X' on the sheep that kick.
Bar joke: There were these two sheep see, and one of them walked into a baa -
A WOLF AND A LAMB!!!
Soooooooo soooooooo soooooooo cute!
It's a lovely romance, with a VERY cute end! I love it and can't give less than 5 stars
Why maybe you didn't took me seriously.. let me say it again...
it's soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo CUTE!
a wolf shifter
that love a lamb shifter!!!
but a warning.... you can imagine it's will not be easy to them, and some parts can be also brutal, but I didn't give up... I'm one of those romantic girls that love to read romantic stories. So, I endure it, and I'm glad I finish this book. The end is..... CUTE!!!!!!
but... no way I'll say why... it's just... a perfect end, that made me smile!
5 stars -
Very cute read. Didn't go into reading it expecting much, but enjoyed it nonethless.
-
This was cute, but nothing awesome. I think it went on a bit longer than it needed too, and the editing was pretty horrible.

I have to admit that the idea behind this series intrigues me. There are a few shifter books where a 'predator' shifter mates with a 'prey' shifter, but to have a whole series based on that principle is new. It could be quite fun, I think.
Carson, the lamb shifter, doesn't exactly have it easy with an elder brother who makes his life hell. Falling for a wolf shifter doesn't help, but Carson holds up quite well. Being a lamb by nature, he doesn't fight back when their relationship is threatened, but the quiet strength with which he stands up to the situation was believable and admirable.
Brody, as the wolf shifter, is the aggressor. He is strong, dominant and it all goes well until he meets resistance from his father. Contrary to his wolf nature, he doesn't fight, even though he never got along with his father. I found that hard to explain from a human perspective, but if you assume that a wolf holds pack above everything, Brody listening to his Alpha father makes a little more sense.
If you like tales about opposites meeting and being attracted, if you want to read a shifter story with a difference and if a slightly misguided main character finally figuring out his role in life will hold your interest, you will probably like this story. -
I didn't hate this. That's pretty much the only positive thing I can say about it. I absolutely hate fated mates. I can handle it if the mate bond is separate from the characters getting to know each other and falling in love, but that wasn't the case here. The characters pretty much became one instantly, with all the mind reading, feeling each others' pain, and telepathic connection stuff that often goes with fated matings. If I'd know this book had that I definitely would not have read it.
There was no conflict between the characters at all. Since they could read each others' minds and feel each others' feelings, how could there be? The only conflict was external, and that was sporadic at best. A conflict would spring up only to be resolved in a few pages. I had no motivation to keep reading and was really bored. There was no romantic tension at all.
Also I thought the sex scenes were boring and way too frequent. Anus is not a sexy word and it was used way too often. -
I have to admit that when I first started this I wasn't for sure how interesting a lamb shifter could be.
Quickly I found Carson to be the cutest lamb shifter ever. Baah. Brody was the typical wolf shifter, dominant, possessive, and protective but they live in an interesting world where the predators still hunt and eat the prey. Sure the werewolves could go to the grocery store and buy their meat but then they wouldn't be true to themselves now would they? All the shifters operate on these traditional concepts and there doesn't seem to be a reason for anyone to buck the system until the werewolf Brody finds his true mate in the lamb Carson. That is the easy part. The hard part is figuring out how they can be allowed to stay together.
I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the rest of the series. -
Simplistic prose and a frightening lack of maturity when it comes to detailing the world and real people's emotions. Whole people are written off in one or two sentences; their motives are completely illogical, they change their minds in a few seconds flat...
The only saving grace for this one was the baaas. I guess I have a soft spot for sheeps. I can't help it. Writing is a little bit better than the likes of Stormy Glenn/Lynn Hagen, so if you're looking for a brain dead read and don't quite want to go THAT brain dead, considering picking on of S.Hyacinth's up. -
Una lectura ligera e interesante contando con la forma en que comienza la relación, la especie de ambas partes, las cosas que tienen que superar y todo lo demás, aunque se me ha hecho demasiado ligero y que ha fallado en algunas cosillas.

A shapeshifter grey wolf falling in love for a shapeshifter white lamb? The odd pair was a sure titillating push for me to read this novel as soon as it was out. Of course, due not only to the inter-breed romance, but also to the same-sex relationship, it was due that the reason why wolf Brody is fatally attracted by lamb Carson is the mate bond. From what I understand, Brody was not gay, he is simply answering to the mate calling, and the fact that Carson is a man and a prey it’s not enough to discourage him. On the other side, young Carson is a virgin, and actually he thinks at himself like asexual: at 20 years old he has not yet developed into a ram and he will probably always remain a lamb.
I think the author wanted to challenge the boundary with the inter-breed relationship but aside from that she didn’t want to make things too difficult for Brody; there is no doubt that Carson is the bottom, he is not only lithe and pretty, he has also a very sensitive attitude, and he can be strong only in willing not in body. Never once Carson gave any indication that he wanted independency, and he would be more than happy to be the man-wife for Brody. Even if fragile and sensitive, Carson didn’t “annoy” me, he was so sweet and tender that was almost impossible to be upset with him; by the way, he is for once a completely “different” twink of sort, he is not the usual top from the bottom twink, pushing his Alpha male partner to do everything he wants with the only power of his sex appeal; Carson is genuinely an omega, in this perfectly matching his shapeshifter form of a lamb (used to follow other directions).
The story is also surprisingly “complex”, meaning that it’s not exclusively centered around the meeting and mating of the two; their story goes beyond that point, spanning more or less 3 years (truth with a big shift in time in the middle), but still, it gave more time to the reader to enjoy this odd, but nice, pair.

This was a great start to a new shifter series because the predator/prey combination was such an interesting twist. I loved Carson from the very beginning and felt so bad for him because of his dickhead brother Ray (I wished for many painful things to happen to Ray as payback). I was a little worried when Carson and Brody immediately bonded so early in the book. I was afraid I'd be bored with the lovey-dovey couple because they got together too quickly and easily. I wanted conflict, and we soon got it thanks to interfering pack members (who joined Ray on my list of people I wanted maimed). But even when Carson and Brody were miserable, their bond survived. (And thank you Scarlet for having them both remain true to each other during that time. It would have been easy for them to stray but then you would have had an irate reader on your hands because that's a big no no for me once they've met their mate.) They made a good couple because Brody was so protective and dominant and Carson lived to make his mate happy. I also enjoyed the secondary characters and thought the ending was adorable. I'm looking forward to future stories.

I liked the angst here. I am becoming a fan of the whole true mates thing. The best part of the book was the epilogue. It made me smile. The couple were cute. And I did adore the whole lamb thing, it was the first lamb shifter book I read.
I really liked the book. An easy 4 stars. -
2.5 🌟
I liked Carson and Brody and the fact that they were such different species. The obstacles they went through to be together was messed up but made the story a bit better. -
This is one of those on the surface reads where you expect absolutely nothing from the book and as such enjoy it despite its absolute simplicity. I knew from the get go I was in for a bit of silliness and that’s exactly what I got. Maybe a little bit ridiculous, but enjoyable just the same solid 3.5 stars.
Carson is a lamb shifter, and a weaker one at that. The other rams won’t let him help guard the town from marauding wolves and they pick on him readily and often. In fact his half brother is one of the worst offenders. Instead he’s left to help the ewes with the little ones. A task Carson doesn’t mind, and in fact enjoys, but one that opens him up to even more ridicule. One night on his way home he’s accosted by his brother and a pack of his friends.
Brody is the younger brother of his packs alpha. Sent on a reconnaissance mission to discover if the lamb shifters really are trying to move out of their hidden little town and into the big city Brody is surprised to find his protective instincts raised when he stumbles onto a young lamb shifter being nearly raped by his own kind. It doesn’t take him long to discover that Carson is his mate. Throwing out all of the things he’d been taught about the other shifters being prey Brody takes Carson away with him and starts looking for a way for them to be together.
So I was warned to expect a fair bit of absurdity and things like baa-ing during sex, and yeah that’s all in here, but not as heavily as I feared. Generally this is a cute little story about two natural adversaries looking to find a way to be together despite class prejudices, even if those prejudices are really silly mindless animal ideas. Carson is a sweetheart and I loved watching him fight his instincts to be strong and stand up for himself and Brody even when he knew he couldn’t win. I liked Brody well enough though I would have liked a little more backbone from him. For all that he was the lamb shifter I often felt like Carson was the stronger of the two.
My biggest problem with the books probably was the ingrained idea that the animal side of these shifters is all so strong that they don’t reason a difference between a human animal shifter and their non-shifter counterpart. I find the idea of a wolf shifter eating another shifter, especially in their human form, to be a little repulsive. Brody even makes the point that there wasn’t a need for it anymore with, you know, grocery stores and all. I guess I can understand past history and the hunting of other shifters for food back in medieval times, but a modern mind and understanding makes it all seem a little silly. Makes for interesting tension, but the actual practicality of the idea is a little far-fetched. Besides one would think the full animal counterparts would be much easier to catch anyway. They don’t have the reasoning human mind to think their way out of a tight spot.
This is an insta-love/bonding book, which doesn’t bother me in shifter books very much because I can buy into the animal instincts thing. The forced splitting of their bond was an interesting plot twist as well and made me really wish Brody had more of a backbone. I did find the flip flopping of our bad guys opinions a little distracting throughout as everytime I felt like I’d identified who was going to be the issue they’d get over it and it’d move on to someone else. First it was Carson’s brother, then Brody’s brother, then Brody’s dad, then Brody’s brother is helping him escape at the behest of his dad, then it’s Brody’s ex, the beta he beat, and Carson’s brother working in cahoots…bit shifty if you ask me. Still I just shrugged and moved on. Chalked it all up to, it’s a silly book, but it’s cute and I kinda like it.
The writing is very elementary and covers the bones of the story with minimal embellishments or flavor. It gives just enough to keep you interested but doesn’t have the richness of other authors in the genre. I enjoyed what I was reading, but I didn’t find myself absolutely hooked into having to get the next book immediately the way I normally am with a good shifter series. I’ll probably read more of the series as some point because I did like it, but I won’t be breaking any speed records to get there. -
I knew I absolutely had to read this book when I saw the blurb. It was everything I expected it to be and I enjoyed it for what it is.
This book is about as straightforward as it gets. The writing is alright but there's no particularly earth shattering revelation or deep character moments. It's not intentionally funny and the storyline is pretty serious. I was honestly entertained.
I think Carson was rather cute as a little lamb. His baa moments were adorable. The wolf vibe wasn't so strong for me in Brody. He's an alright character though.
The trouble I have with true mate bonds is the same trouble I have with insta-love, but I can accept this paranormal aspect more easily. Still, there's not much relationship development that I can see with this story. There's some minor references to getting to know each other, but the story progresses in such a way that you don't really get to see it.
If you're predisposed to dislike the blurb, I don't believe there's anything in the book that will change your mind. All in all, a nice easy read. -
1.5 stars
At first, I was really excited to read this. Because, WOLF X LAMB. Wolf and lamb, guys! But then :
1. Elementary writing style and the dictions are cringeworthy, like nirvana, oasis, ambrosia, anus, passage (another anus, more cringeworthy than anus imo).
2. Too much sex, fallen asleep while reading it. The 'baah' during sex didn't help, not adorable sorry to say.
3. First 15% is funny excluding the attack, the rest is not funny anymore, but epilogue is nice. Sometimes it's good, but most of the time is WTF. Too many WTF moments that it could passed as children's book, without the sex scenes of course. For the list of WTF moments, other reviewers explained it better. Don't have time to list them all without being spoilerish.
4. Ugly cover, would be better if they didn't put two men in the cover (put a sheep between two men insinuates bestiality, lol), just wolf and sheep, cuddling together.
5. Insta-love at its finest.
Not sure if I'll read the sequels. Not recommended. Definitely not the best shapeshifters romance to read. -
DNF
This just wasn't for me. I don't like fated-mates especially not when combined with insta-love and that was right at the heart of this book so it's not too surprising that I didn't like it.
I was kind of hoping it might be so-bad-it's-good territory, but alas it took itself too seriously for that :(
It's not badly written, it's just not my thing. If you like unusual shapeshifters and don't mind insta-love then you may well enjoy this book. -
What a fun book! I loved the concept and all the inter-species trauma. It was light-hearted and had me smiling whilst still addressing key disciminatory issues for the couple! (Had a little trouble working out the climax noise sounding like a 'Baaahhh' - put me a little out of my head space LOL!)
I'll definitely read more in this series. -
I'll admit that the premise of this series sounded quite silly to me. But I'm very happy to say that I was very pleasantly surprised with this book.
Carson is a very sweet lamb shifter (shouldn't that be a Ram by now though?) and Brody is the big bad wolf. Lucky for them, even though their path to happiness isn't an easy ride, they do get there in the end. -
What to say? It was interesting coupling but that is all what I like about that story. The story plot is to childish and we have sexs, sexs, sexs. So its easy reading with awareness that you can't expect quality.
To Scarlet Hyacinth - Epilogue is nice. -
Was looking for something similar to the Midnight Matings series. And I think I've found it! The story surprised me with its depth. And I'm excited to read about all the different types of shifters in the series.

Yay!! 500th book!!
-
Those children are adorable. :)
-
After the wolf left the lamb for that woman I couldn't continue.
-
The story was cute and exceptionally written. It centers around Brody (wolf), and, Carson (lamb). The main thing that bothered me was how the wolves did not approve of a predator and prey mating and acted in ways that were utterly ridiculous. I also felt like as mates, they shouldn't have been apart for so long. I must say, though, that the ending was adorable, and the ecstasy between the two main characters was just burning through each page. I also enjoyed Carson's friends, since they were so sweet and helpful. =)
