Anne Frank (Bio-Graphics) Reviews
-
Anne Frank by Joe Dunn uses an interesting idea of graphics to depict the short life of Anne Frank as she hid from the Nazis during the Holocaust. This text is scored at a reading level of 4.1 and uses very accurate organization of the events that took place in Anne Frank's life as her and her family hid in their secret annex. This historical graphic novel would be used when doing a biography on Anne Frank or other holocaust victims during World War II.

This is a graphic-story approach to the biography of Ann Frank. It is one of multiple titles in the bio-graphics series written by Dunn (magic Wagon Press, Abdo Publishing) aimed at making history accessible while accurate. It is vetted by history/library experts. Back matter includes additional content: Time line, glossary, internet sites, bibliography, index, and suggested further readings.

An excellent graphic rendition of Anne's story in graphic form, even with it's terrible cover and title. My only tiff is that the story builds for so long, only for Anne to be sent away and die in 3 graphic squares. I wish more thought would have been put into the reality of the camp and her relationship with her sister. Still, excellent.

I love non-fiction graphic novel books like this one on Anne Frank. They are perfect for those students who are less than enthusiastic readers. This would be a wonderful addition to any elementary school or library.
