Then Anna's family is embroiled in the scandal of the season, with only Sir Barrington Parker to turn to. Brushed by Scandal Reviews

I really wonder if the people who write the blurbs for these books even read the books. However this book was really good if not a little annoying with how slow the characters seem to be and with a very cheesy ending.

    Great recency romance and mystery

Great hero and heroine, a mystery and all set in recency society with the deft hand of a excellent author. During our recent virus lockdown I've been trying to read some decent recency romances but these days it's so hard to find a quality read. I was so desperate to sit and become immersed in a story that had more than a woman in a satin crinoline (not even regency!) cavorting with a Duke on the cover of the book to it that I went back to the M&B 'Steepwood Scandal' series' authors to see what they had done since 2001. I was not disappointed by Sir Barrington (a mere baronet yet brainy and hot) and feisty Lady Annabelle who cannot help but interfere. 5 stars!!

i was in my historical romance era as one is during a spiral and looking for something easy and fun to sink into and what got me was how dark the themes ran in the background of the tame af romance. a woman was literally trapped into sexual slavery!?! a cougar was running around high society? the rich and entitled were feasting on the poor every sec of the story. and so so. SO MUCH cheating. which was such a sharp contrast to whatever was going on between our vanilla af leads. came for the cheesy romance, stayed for the convoluted mystery and sabotage happening in the back.

Found this a bit annoying with single lady calling on single gentleman, member of Ton putting milk in before the Tea (no, no no! You only did that if your tea things were too poor quality to stand the boiling water!) and the villain seemed so obvious I couldn't understand why everyone seemed so oblivious! Also said villain seemed to just give in and slink off at the end.

I've come to admire Parker a lot through out this book, and enjoyed every moment as pieces of the mystery together. Anna was annoying at first but seemed to be interesting as the book began to draw to a close. The answer to the to mystery was so obvious that it seemed that some of the remaining characters were blinded, until the end. It was also slow paced too.

This was a fairly good book. The writing was restrained and well crafted, but the plot was predictable and not very inspiring. All in all an okay read. Better than some I've read, but nothing worth making a big noise about.
