This book, PEACE and The Life of Gregory Melikian, is the biography of Gregory Melikian (b. 1924-) who, as a 20-year-old radio telegrapher for General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Commander of the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) in Reims, France, was, on May 7, 1945, chosen to send the encoded communication to all our allies of the Nazi German military commanders' unconditional surrender. This famous communique signaled the end of WWII in Europe, earning for young Gregory Melikian the sobriquet of "peacemaker." A post-war career in law and in real estate development in New York and in Arizona gave Gregory Melikian and his family the financial wherewithal to continue to advance the cause of world peace and to be advocates of the historic preservation of significant edifices and artifacts. The Melikians, now of Phoenix, Arizona, are the benefactors and the namesakes of Arizona State University's Melikian Center for Russian, Eurasian, and East European Studies, and of this Center's renowned Critical Languages Institute.
