And Chase Dawson may be the hottest man alive and a super-talented editor to boot, but he’s completely oblivious that he’s the star of the manuscript he just convinced his boss to green-light.
Brooke Baker has been through a lot in her thirty-one years of life.
A divorce.
A career change.
A move to New York City from “small-town” Ohio.
Not to mention, she has a bit of a medical condition that involves occasional fainting spells, mild embarrassment, and the companionship of her adorable service dog and canine sidekick, Benji.
But none of it has prepared her for this.
None of it prepared her for Chase Dawson.
Strong jaw, blue eyes, cut muscles, and a perfect swoop of superhero-worthy black hair, Chase’s features are those of a book boyfriend and then some. Obviously, Brooke would know—she literally filled an entire manuscript with it.
A manuscript no one was ever supposed to see.
Will she survive two months of revising and editing the sizzling romance she imagined with Chase in extremely close quarters with him? Or will the constant white lies and overwhelming attraction make her spontaneously combust?

DNF’d @ 32%
The fact that I read 32% of this book and NOTHING HAPPENED pissed me off the most. They would just go around in circles and there was no progress in the story. Blah blah horror scream, my book wasn’t meant to reach your eyes! blah blah — BUT IT HAS AND NOW MOVE TF ON AND GET TO THE EDITING FFS!
The jokes/quirky metaphors in almost every sentence were so redundant and just made the fmcs character out to be a clown. She had nothing to give me except the fact that she had a health condition that made her faint at the drop of a hat. That’s fine but what else??? She behaves as though she’s never met him the first scene they’re shown together when in fact they have met before and it’s so dumb.
The guy was somewhat better but he was so blandddd like come tf on. He wasn’t your 2D alpha mmc and that was refreshing to read about. He had life in him. But then it got so cringey I couldn’t take his pov anymore. He was maybe a little too sweet for my liking lol.
There would be unnecessary filler scenes that added nothing to the story.
Oh and there was so much talk about TikTok and how she’s so old for that stuff that I think I lost some brain cells trying to look past it for the 4783th time :)
I tried to stay for the smut but I just could not deal with the characters inner monologue anymore. Smh I might be patient but even I have my limits. -
DNFed at 40 percent… because I read 250 pages and absolutely nothing happened. This book needed a good edit for brevity, and I love Max Monroe so this isn’t easy for me to write.
There were entire scenes of the two main characters doing such mundane things - like walking thru Central Park - and the only reasoning I could find was to do a quick character cameo from one of their other books. And through the 250 pages, I can say I do not like the FMC and have no concept of depth for the MMC.
On top of that (not to pile on, but I was SO looking forward to this book) the comedy was super forced. “Jokes” were inserted into every single sentence. So when you got to big laughs they were less poignant.
Probably my most disappointing DNF of the year so far. -
Let me begin by saying I have read and loved every single Max and Monroe book. They are and will continue to be auto reads for me. But.. I may may be the only one who did not like this book, there I said it...ugh! That hurt.
I was so excited about this book and the story that I dove in on release day. I kept telling myself it would get better, it had to. But for me, it just didn't. I felt like with 581 pages, it absolutely drug on and on!
There is a line in this book where Chase says that Brooke spends 90% of her time talking to dogs. I feel like that is an accurate assessment of this book. There is more of that than anything else it's cute until it isn't ( and I am a dog lover!!) Then there is the snark, at some point, it became so annoying that I just started skimming pages. There is little actual romance until WAY into this book, so you have to get through all of the above to get to what little romance is actually in there. This led me to my other issue, lack of heat, I read it was a crush that led to the story itself, but I felt like that was all it ever was. In most of their books, you feel this pull, this chemistry (Thatch & Cassie). I felt nothing, no chemistry, just relief the book was finally moving forward. Also, the humor was more monotonous snark than actual humor as in other books. I am so very disappointed, I wanted so much to love this book, sadly, it was their one and only miss for me. -

XOXO,
Max & Monroe -
I am a fan of this duo’s writing. Having read all of their books, I can say I’m addicted to their comedic content. This book didn’t live up to what I expect from them. It took me way to long to finish it because it’s too long. If they edited out the grossly repetitive mentions of how Brooke accidentally submitted a book about her secret crush on Chase, it would probably be a normal length book. It seemed as if, once per every Brook chapter, that fact was mentioned. It’s unnecessary. If it were a drinking game, and I had to take a shot every time Brooke mentions her writing a book about her secret crush, I’d have to go to the hospital for alcohol poisoning.
Then when they do get into a fight, 6000 pages of over the top sweetness ends and the gloves come off. The angry words seemed forced from two people who were so perfectly perfect.
I checked out 1/2 way through because I felt I was just reading the same words over and over. At one point, I even wondered if this was their Garden of Forever.
I was sent this advanced copy for an honest review. Maybe it just wasn’t for me. -
Max Monroe writes such fun romances, so I was excited to get this audiobook from net galley! I listened to this one in a few days and really loved the premise! The heroine is a writer who is in a rut, so she writes fan fiction of her and her new editor. She's not happy with her normal genre and the story she is working on, but she has to turn it in. Accidentally, though, she sends her editor her fan fiction and not her normal work. And he loves it. The publisher decides to send her on tour, but she can't go on a plane because of her medical condition (she has an adorable service dog too!), so she goes on a bus tour and her editor volunteers to drive so they can work while they travel. He's determine to make her new book a hit, but he doesn't expect to fall so hard in the process. Like I said, this was such a fun and cute premise and I loved the forced proximity! I also love books that take place in the book world, so this just had so many elements that I loved! I'm so happy I picked this one up!

I happen to enjoy Max Monroe's writing. I have reviewed a few of the books by this talented pair and have had a pleasurable read every time. They are sassy, quick-witted authors who write together under this name and their reputation holds.
With this particular tale, the idea of a mistake manuscript sent to the editor the author is crushing on is really cute and has so many possibilities to play with. The execution of the story falls close but doesn't hit the mark for me, unfortunately. There was a lot of current reference to today's humor, situations, etc. and sometimes it felt like a lot.
I will continue to look for Max Monroe and it could have been me, not the author regarding this book.

Lol.
“Oh my God, Brooke,” Chase croons in a way that seems both distressed and controlled from right in front of my face. I’d love to be able to focus on the perfect, passionate blue of his dreamboat eyes from this unexpectedly close position, but to be quite honest, I’m a little too occupied with using all my basic functions to avoid peeing myself.
Yep. That’s right. Unfortunately for me and the universe, one of the main side effects of going unconscious unexpectedly is losing control of your bladder. As if the humiliation of the whole thing isn’t enough for people like me, the Almighty decided, “Hey, why don’t we also let them piss themselves?”
No offense to God or anything. He obviously did a good job with everything else. I’m just a little bitter about this one tiny thing.” -
Accidental Attachment by Max Monroe tells the story of Brooke and Chase's relationship and how they came to be. Brooke, a successful writer with a series being transported to the big screen by Netflix, meant to turn in a spin off series when she accidentally sends the manuscript for another story instead. A story that she never meant to show the public, let alone her editor that she wrote the story about. The plot was definitely intriguing for me when I decided to pick this story up, but I personally did not feel this story lived up to the hype that I had hoped for. I liked how easy this story was to read. Max Monroe did an excellent job incorporating humor throughout the book, but I do want to point out a few things that may draw away some readers. If the reader does not mind these little nitpicks, then I do feel that they will enjoy the story. A couple smaller nitpicks I had was the mentions of TikTok and Gen-Z. The mentions to TikTok felt unnecessary and I get turned off by the references since I read books to escape into a new world, reading about TikTok sound references and popular culture defeat my purpose for reading books. Brooke is super clumsy, and while it is relatable to be a clumsy person, it felt like almost every chapter she was stubbing a toe or tripping on something. I also felt like the story had very little conflict, and the conflict that did occur was brushed over lightly or felt forced. I would have enjoyed more inclusion of their editing process since a large part of the story's plot was how the story that she turned in needed to be edited and finalized within the three weeks they were on tour. The story only sprinkled mentions of the editing and lacked any discussion of the process. I also think the writer could have had some cute scenes between Chase and Brooke had they wrote about them working together to edit the story. Although I do think if this story finds the right audience it can be enjoyed. This book is great for anyone who is looking for a lighthearted slow burn, with little conflict, and fluffy romance with lots of humorous banter. Thank you to Max Monroe and NetGalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.
I know you might be screaming at me for not reading it in chronological order. My curiosity over Chase and Brooke I have to read their story ASAP. I just didn't expect their story will be a SLOW BURN. I mean it's over 400 pages and I'm getting impatient for them to hook up.
The story is between an author, Brooke Baker, who accidentally sent the wrong manuscript that is inspired from her crush, Chase Dawson, who also happens to be her editor. The fact he sees the potential in writing romance, he's determined to get it published unaware that it's about him. Since Brooke's fantasy series has a TV show, she and Chase go on a road tour. Her medical condition (syncope) doesn't permit her to travel via plane. TALK ABOUT THE FORCED PROXIMITY. It took time for their chemistry to build up. I was rooting for them all the way. The last minute conflict is expected and it's really shallow and dramatic. Anyways, I still enjoy it. I just wish it's shorter because there are fillers. -
A well written, cute, funny romance with depth and lovely characters.
Loved heroine Brooke and her canine best friend Benji. Both were hilarious. Chase was such a dreamy hero. I enjoyed reading about how they came together and their forced proximity. Together they were smouldering from chapter 1!
Mo and Sammy were my favourite in secondary characters.
The reason I didn’t give it more stars was because I didn’t like the final conflict and felt Chase definitely reacted over the top. I also needed more grovelling from his side.
It was also fun to read about Brooke’s books. I always love it when my heroines are authors. Its fascinating to read about their work and see inside their minds.
Epilogue was cute and can’t wait to read Sammy’s book.
Recommended and safe.
I received an advance review copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily. -
Henry Cavill’s right testclice, huh?
Are y’all 12? Imagine some random dude dedicated his book to your clit or left pu$$y lip? I sure hope you wouldn’t be offended. This kind of thing isn’t cute or funny when women do it, either.
Quick DNF~❌❌❌❌
The cheesy dedication, poor formatting, and boring, info dump intro told me all I need to know. Now I know why this book is over 500 pages. That’s way too long for a basic romance.
No, thanks.👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
One more thing:
Before the first chapter, deadlines are compared to spending a week with a serial killer and a “car-crushing interstate pileup.” Think about that for a minute… Those things result in the death of innocents. This isn’t humorous, it’s insensitive.
Poorly done. -
I tried. I did. But I had to stop at 11%. I was annoyed with Brooke from the start. She's A LOT to take. I don't care for being pulled into another "book" (she's an author so we're having to be taken out of Brooke and Chase's world to drop into another set of characters that she wrote about). I just couldn't click with her at all and he, the little I had of him wasn't any better. Could it have been my mood? Possible. I've enjoyed previous books by this author. I may give it another shot at a much later time. Maybe.

4.35⭐
As soon as I read the blurb, I got very excited and couldn't wait to read it.
Thank you NetGalley & Max Monroe LLC for the ALC.
" A successful writer accidentally sends her new (and super-dreamy) editor the wrong manuscript. Instead of the full-length paranormal novel she promised Longstrand Publishing, she sends the fan fiction she’s written about her crush…on him—including every detail of the hot, steamy “physical activity” she’s fantasized about happening between them"
What a fun ride.
I enjoyed every bit of time I spent listening to the audiobook, it was quite long btw.
This was my first Max,Monroe and it definitely won't be my last.
An Ultimate meet cute rom com, full of quirks and non stop laughs. The love story between two adults both trying to succeed in their jobs really warmed by heart.
This could have easily been 5stars, but it was too long though not boring at all, i just felt it could have been shorter, and the inner/mental dialogue was too many.
The narrator’s absolutely blew it out of the park. Love them.
I highly recommend this book -
🎧🎧 AUDIO REVIEW 🎧🎧
OVERALL: Lawd! That was a long one! LOL
I am ridiculously happy that Max Monroe LLC via NetGalley afforded me the opportunity to experience this ridiculously fun and quirky romance full of laughter and spark and heart!! I really enjoyed this but I have to be honest here and say that had I been reading this story, it might have taken me way longer than it did listening to it. How much longer, who’s to say, but it wouldn’t have taken me mere days to finish :) do with that information what you will :)
PERFORMANCE: I’ve always enjoyed listening to Joe Arden narrate a story in the past, however, the last few listening experiences I’ve had with him as the narrator have been very rushed. It’s like he’s speed talking his way thru the story and that’s especially twitchy to me when there’s any inner monologue (which there is a lot of in this story). It’s just frustrating for me and really decreases my enjoyment of the audiobook. Accidental Attachment is a 13-hour story that tested me but the enjoyment from the storyline got me thru :)
CJ Bloom brought Brooke to life for me perfectly and did an exceptional job with all her voices throughout the story!
STORY: I’d love to say that this is a story deserving of its almost 600 pages and/or 13-hour audio, but it really isn’t. I’m not a fan of adding plot points or circumstances into a story that don’t move a story forward or (and this one makes me super twitchy) inner monologues and descriptive texts that seem to go ooooooooonnnn and on and when you get to the end of them you realize it all could have been conveyed in three sentences. That’s an off-the-cuff example of what happened in this book way too many times, in my opinion. And you know what happens when I encounter too much of this ….. yeah, skip/skim begins *sigh*
But here’s the thing, this was a super cute story and even though I admittedly did skip forward on more than a few but less than a lot, occasions, I enjoyed it overall! I KNOW, super bizarre but it is what it is.
✔️ unique storyline you don’t see often
✔️ perfect tropes matching the characters and what they would need (because of their personalities) to break thru the quirky and have a relationship
✔️ low on the angst meter and high on the humor meter
✔️ friendship development, which again fits perfectly with their personalities (on the flipside of this thought is that the romance took a backseat (or it felt under focused to me) and I honestly connected them more as good friends as opposed to romantic friends …
✔️ On the flip side of the above bullet point is that slow burn is actually the only way these two would have worked in my opinion and when they did get steamy with each other, they got steamy! *wink*
✔️ Benji … I mean … #cuteness personified!
Okay, so I could go on and on and list a whole bunch of other circumstances in this story but then why the heck would you read your own copy if I did that lol, so enough about all that! If you don’t mind your stories on the lengthy side and like romantic comedies, this might just be a fit for you! Go forth and enjoy! -
Accidental Attachment is a standalone, contemporary romance from Max Monroe and this one was so fun! I had heard good things about this one and was excited to try it out too. The heroine is an author who accidentally sends her new editor she has been crushing on a fanfic book she wrote about her fantasy of them instead of the book she was supposed to send in. And then he loves it and wants to work on the editing of the project with her! 👀😅
Brooke is on a deadline and not feeling happy about the book she has to send in to her publishers. It’s written but she isn’t excited about it all but sends it in anyways to Chase, her new editor. She can’t believe the next day when Chase tells her he loves her new book and this new turn she took. That is when Brooke realizes she accidentally sent him the fanfic romance she wrote about him and her instead! But Chase says it’s the best things he’s read and he can’t wait to work on the editing of the book together.
Brooke is quirky and funny, she has a condition where she passes out often if her blood pressure rises and has her service dog Benji with her always, her last book series was picked up by Netflix and she still isn’t used to her new success and fame. Chase is new to NY and new to the publisher company, he puts his career on the line with stepping up for Brooke’s new book but believes in it (and Brooke) with everything he has. They end up on a RV roadtrip together when she’s due for a Netflix press tour for her newly adapted book series (she can’t fly) and he volunteers to drive so they can work on the editing of her new book on the way and omg, the forced proximity was SO DELICIOUS!
I was given an audio ARC of this via NetGalley and it was so much fun! The narrators are CJ Bloom and Joe Arden and they made me fall in love with these characters so easily! While romcom isn’t always my fav, this one worked so well and I think the audio helped that. The third act breakup wasn’t my fav but we do get a cute grovel from her! I do think this one was a little longer than needed, but I was glad I got to it! -
i saw the third act conflict coming from a mile away :(
thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review. -
Nope. DNF. I’m gonna preface this by saying yet again how much I’ve loved Max Monroe books since I found them. I’ve read nearly every book they’ve put out because they’re hilarious and cute and so much fun. But I am SO FLUFFING (I’m saying this word with extreme sarcasm at this point because it’s used SO MUCH), SICK AND TIRED OF THATCHER AND CASSIE!
At 26%, we are reading about Chase taking this extremely long walk by himself just enjoying life. Then guess what happens? He bumps into none other than… CASSIE! Gasp! How could this be?
At 28% we are reading Brookes POV and she’s taking a walk with her dog and then guess what happens? THATCH with the pig! Gasp again!
This is when I leave the book. I just cannot stand reading about new characters and having their promise overshadowed by two characters that had a book nearly 7 years ago. If I’m not mistaken… every single book since Thatcher and Cassie’s book that has come out has had a snippet of them in some way. It’s extremely distracting and at this point, it just pisses me off. It’s literally like the authors are adding in a bunch of “fluff” (catch my joke there??) JUST to add scenes with Thatcher and Cassie.
WHY CANT THE NEW CHARACTERS BE INTERESTING ON THEIR OWN?!?! WHY MUST YOU CONTINUOUSLY BRING THESE TWO UP?!?
I think the previously published book was the same way. It was the first Max Monroe book I didn’t really enjoy very much. And this book is the first DNF of all of their books.
I guess just let me know when y’all stop bringing T and C into books and maybe I’ll try again.
I swear I’m not trying to be mean or rude. I’m just starting to really resent those two characters after all this time and I hate that! Because like I said… I really did love those two. But when is enough enough? -
Accidental Attachment is a hilarious, lighthearted rom com by the fabulous writing duo Max Monroe. I listened to the audiobook and as expected, CJ Bloom and Joe Arden put on a phenomenal performance. Also, while this is a stand-alone, if you’ve read previous their books, get ready for some fun cameos.
What to expect:
-Slow burn with explosive steam
-An amazing service dog Benji
-Workplace romance
-Forced proximity
-Cinnamon roll hero
-Heroine who is an author
-Hero who is an editor
-Secret crush
-Banter and sexual tension
-NYC setting
Thank you to the authors for the ARC/ ALC. Pub date 4/30 -
This is WAY too long for a contemporary romance. I couldn't get into it and I found the heroines humor irritating. She didn't feel like a real person- she felt like someone constantly on. The "we can't be together" rhetoric was SO repetitive. Overall this one just wasn't it for me- but I've seen others loving it!
-
What an enjoyable audiobook listen! The narrators did a beautiful job of portraying Brooke and Chase, bringing them to life. The heroine, Brooke, was quirky and fun. Her dog had so much personality he became an important side character. Chase was just dreamy. I loved listening to his thoughts about how wonderful he thought Brooke was. On top of all that, the humor was spot on. I was laughing out loud multiple times as I listened this audiobook. This is one I will re-listen again. Very enjoyable!

DNF @ 32%.
I saw the cover of this book and I immediately wanted to read it. I read the blurb and I knew I had to read it. I started reading it and I did not like it at all.
To say that this book is drawn out is an understatement. I got to 32% and absolutely nothing has happened. Brooke basically only talks to her dog or is drinking bottles of wine at a time. Don't get me wrong, I loved Benji and his superhero costumes but I did not like Brooke. All she did was complain.
And what is up with Chase's roommate? It's just weird. I did like Mo, she reminded me of a dog that has the zoomies. If that makes sense.
At one point, Chase tells Brooke "She's so funny." How is she funny? I don't understand. I found her annoying, to be honest.
There's no reason for this book to be almost 600 pages. There were so many things that didn't need to be included. But that's just my opinion.
Thank you to NetGalley, and Max Monroe for this ARC. -
This was a fun, campy book. I was enamored with Brooke Baker and her adorable service dog Benji - almost right out the gate. I liked the chemistry between her and Chase, though it failed to really hook me. That is, this felt like the sort of story that I objectively enjoyed and found entertaining, without ever really feeling it. I think this is sometimes a byproduct of romcoms that veer toward the more slapstick. There is a lot of emphasis on the comedy, and maybe not quite as much on the emotional build-up or swooniness.
That said, this was a really enjoyable story. The audio version is well done - the narrators bringing the characters, and the story to life. It was an enjoyable listen, and a feel-good story that left a smile on my face in the end. Definitely worth the read! ~ Shelly, 3 Stars -
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to listen to this ARC in order to give an honest review.
I’ve only read a few other books by Max Monroe, but this one was the best I’ve read from them. It had a quirky, sassy, self deprecating FMC who was more relatable than I’d like to admit. Haha. And a charming sweet cinnamon roll hero. If that wasn’t enough there was Benji the super hero costume wearing doggy.
The epilogue seems to hint at there being a series, and I’d be ecstatic if that was the case. It’s truly a rom com not to miss. Plus if you listen to the audiobook the narrators are amazing! -
Incredible!!!
Brooke is an award winning author whose book has become a Netflix series.
Chase is her editor and the man of her fantasies. It’s a book within a book that was written about them in her fantasy.
Such loveable characters that had me turning the pages with anticipation and hearts in my eyes.
I’ve never read anything quite as amazing as this book, it made me sad, filled with laughter and joy all at the same time. I can relate to the anxiety and overthinking that happens between characters. Truly a must read.
It was an honor and pleasure to read and review, thank you Netgalley! -
I really enjoyed this one! I adored Brooke and her faithful companion/service dog Benji and Chase was so swoony! This was a hilarious, heartfelt rom-com with great disability rep! I highly recommend if you love dual POV, slow burn, forced proximity, road trips and books about books/authors! I listened to the audiobook and despite the inconsistencies with Chase’s twang, overall, I thought the narrators did a great job!

bahhhh. I was highly disappointed in this book. I almost DNFed 4/5 times but kept saying “i have come this far, maybe something will eventually happen” so i stuck it out and in hindsite i wish i wouldn’t have.
This story was like 160/250 pages too long. It felt like pulling teeth to get to the next chapter because it was just mainly fluff and no character development or interesting plot points.
The idea of an author sending her editor an accidentally for personal use only manuscript that was never supposed to be seen - which is also about THE EDITOR - has so much merit and possibilities but it just didn’t hit the mark.
a lot of the scenes felt super forced and extremely cringy.
our two MCs were very surface level and because of that they weren’t likable by any means.
Our superhero service dog is the only likable thing about this read for me. He saved the book from being a complete 0 star DNF.
It’s giving forced proximity, service dog, and trying to be “enemies” but wasn’t really believable. -
The concept was cute, the actual read was not.
I feel like there is a competition among authors to try and write an Outlander length book about anything.
The characters here weren’t very interesting. Their story drawn out until a OTT argument from a misunderstanding that could have been avoided if they had developed a solid relationship.
