It's a hard going book, as Halperin's writing style doesn't make it easy on potential readers. But behind the long, long paragraphs and excess of commas, the cosmic ballet goes on. It's by far and away the best book on the subject, decades after it's original publication. While historians of grasroots movements have recently begun to paint a different picture of what happened in those days of May (as well as before and after), you won't get the full picture without reading Halperin Donghi's masterpiece. Reading it should be (and as far as I'm aware, is) standard procedure for any historian interested in the period. Patience, and best of lucks!
