Tim Murr, author of Thirsty and Miserable; A Critical Analysis of the Music of Black Flag and My Skull is Full of Black Smoke , explores the entire Texas Chainsaw saga that stretches across five decades, multiple movies, comics, and video games, as well as the true crimes and films that came before and the movies that were inspired by this seminal work.
Texas is the Reason: Five Decades of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Reviews

Anyone who is a fan of this classic slasher and the series it birthed will appreciate Tim Murr's introduction; the author takes us on a nostalgic trip back to the video store, where many of us were first introduced to one of extreme horror's OGs, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
In each of the chapters that follow, Murr summarizes and provides his own take on each incarnation of TCM, from the films to the video games and every comic rendition in between. My personal favorite of the chapters is the one dedicated to TCM 2, which was my own introduction to the world of Chop Top and family at the ripe old age of thirteen (to this day, I still jump when Leatherface leaps out from the dark corner of the radio station). Murr keenly describes Stretch as "more than a final girl" and a "rock n' roll Lois Lane," even in the shadow of Dennis Hopper's Lefty. The book culminates in an analysis of the 2022 "requel" as well as fun summary of films that are Chainsaw-adjacent, and so, even if a reader is familiar with every angle of TCM, s/he will glean a hearty chunk of recommended fare to explore. -
loved this book a must read for texas chainsaw fans talks about each movie that has been done and the comics i found it very interesting as i am a huge fan i thought the 2 best ones were number 2 by tobe hooper and the remake with jessica beil because you dont see the actual murder but you hear it and its your own mind telling you whats happening plus there was a book written on this movie which is hard to get unless you want to pay over 17 hundred on amazon i have all the movies the book and lots of leatherface things most i have given to my grandson who is a huge fan also
a must read book -
Decent overview of the franchise and other related media that would have benefited from better proofreading/punctuation. Reminded me of a magazine article extended to book length. One glaring factual error involves Ed Gein, partial inspiration for the original movie. He never dug his mother up nor stored her in the farmhouse. Also Kim Henkel’s name is misspelled in a few places. And I’m sorry, but Leatherface 2017 is worse than Next Generation. Jed does not lead to Gunnar.
