Original Prompt:
Dear Author,
The first look between them had been innocent, or so he'd thought. I'd love to see exactly how things changed and where they'll end up.
Photo Description: A black/white photo of two naked teens on a sofa. The tanned blonde on the bottom has his legs bent, splayed open, his right hand on his lover's butt. The pale brunette is on his knees, straddled over the blonde's right leg, hands on his lover's neck as he leans down for a kiss.
This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Hot Summer Days" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

It starts pretty good! But
Suddenly it was clear what he should do.
Seriously?
Well, supposedly, “it works two of three times, guaranteed.”
I don’t say it wouldn’t work for me (you know, it depends…), and it obviously worked for Trask, but it was neither funny nor sexy. -
Cute story! A bit slutty...but cute.
-
A very cute story. I wish there was a little more story after they get together but still a satisfying read.
-
Not the best roommates to lovers story I've ever read, but it was s'okay.

This was a cute room mate to lovers story. Not perfect, but I liked it.

I thought the photo that inspired this short story was sweet, but I don't think the story did it justice. I felt it had a lot of potential but the execution was sort of awkward. I liked Trask and I admired his resolution to start college by outing himself to his potential roommates. I didn't really like Lee's character though. It just seemed like he went from a shy, cute guy to some sort of slick seducer. This abrupt shift made the story feel inconsistent.
Don't Read in the Closet is a collection of short stories published for free for members of the M/M Romance Group. The best part of this series of shorts is that they were based on a photo and a reader request for a story. Here is the photo and reader request that inspired this story (warning contains M/M situation with non-graphic nudity):

Another m/m short story. This one felt a little rushed, but we got the full gist of where it was going by the end of it. I thought we needed more of their respective "I've been living with this guy for two months and really want to jump his bones" POVs.

Cute. Sweet. But really sudden and mostly unbelievable. Again, I know it's difficult to do in a short story, but I didn't connect with either of the boys, so I didn't understand the motivations behind their sudden choices. Unless I'm to dumb this down and assume all the motivation college freshman boys need is sex?

Sweet was definitely the way to go - loved it! Kudos to Trask for taking the risk to be true to himself and inspiring Lee to reconsider doing so:) I guess the saying held true - 3rd time's the charm?! Excellent story, Devon, thank you!!!
-
A very sweet 'first time' story. I liked the characters and could see this as a longer piece, building up slowly to their HEA. How did the other students react to Trask's coming out? Did Lee have any more trouble with those bullies? I'm curious.
-
Written for a short story anthology, this story leaves the reader with enough 'what happened when' questions that a good, longer story could come out of it. A nice coming out story but with enough of the dark side of coming out to make the reader think.
-
I really enjoyed this story. I would have given it 5 stars, but I only gave it 4, for the simple reason it just wasn't long enough. I would love to read more about Trask and Lee! Awesome read otherwise!

Aww, I just loved this! I thought that it was very sweet and hot!
-
Intense, Sweet, and Sexy! A very enjoyable read. I'd like a more solid ending but I'm a romantic that wants a Always HEA. Still it's a solid good read.

3.5 stars
Loved the 'upgrade' line! Thank you writing this first-time story Devon. -
Cute free short m/m romance about a college freshman who's decided to come out when he arrives at college. It doesn't go so smoothly at first...
-
I loved Trask. So wanting to be true to himself. Great character, and lees backstory makes his actions understandable.

This was a good story, but didn't have a lot of meat to it. Since I was looking for something short, it worked.
