Until he meets Abigail.

A sprained ankle sends Abigail to the new doctor in town, Elliot Jensen. He is smitten, but tragedy in his past has left him bitter, guilt ridden, and afraid to fall in love again.

When the town’s deputy sheriff rescues Abigail after a robbery, Elliot’s feelings for her get stronger. He is jealous of the attention Abigail is getting, but he fears he can’t compete with the handsome deputy sheriff and his heroic deeds.

Has he waited too long to share his feelings for her? Or will Christmas bring them both the gift they seek?

Set in the late 1800s, the Seasons of the Heart series follows the lives of four women and their families, weaving together their stories of faith, life, and love as they bond in friendship only God could orchestrate.

Winter Promise (Seasons of the Heart #3) Reviews

Winter Promise is the third book in the Seasons of Heart trilogy and probably my favorite one so far! You don’t have to read the other two books in order to enjoy and understand Winter Promise but it will make it more fun if you do.

Abigail is ready to be on her own and making a mark on society so she ventures to Texas to meet up with her brother Daniel and his wife Kate in hopes of starting a library. She was given a good inheritance from a grandparent and can’t think of anything better than to start a library in a small newly developed town. As soon as she arrives she meets two of the most alluring men she’s even seen; the charming deputy Cory Muldoon and the quiet and reserved Doc Elliott. She had no intentions of moving to Texas to find a beau but she can’t seem to stop thinking about these two men.

I really enjoyed most everything about this story. The characters that Martha Rogers creates are always delightful and deep and just love them. Abigail is great; she is stubborn, spunky, tiny little women that his big dreams and has such a tender heart. Another great character is Elliott. He reminds me so much of a lot of Christians that have walked away from their faith. He struggles to understand why a loving God lets bad things happen and he is filled with guilt. Yet he has a great heart!

The best part of this story besides seeing the Muldoon and Monroe families again and reuniting with their lives is seeing how God healed and restored Elliott. Amazing story here!! My only complaint is the lack of romance development until the end, I just wish there was more kissing and more romance sooner.

Thank you to the publishers through FIRST Wild Card Tours that gave me this free book in exchange for my personal and honest opinion. All opinions are my own.

Another good read from Martha Rogers

The writing style was charming and easy to follow and I liked the ease of the dialogue. But I had a hard time with the plot and the believability of the love at first sight relationship. I wanted a little more, and during the main part of the book they didn't even talk to each other that much, but they randomly kept popping into each other's heads. I just really wanted more of the book to be focused on their actual relationship not just what in my opinion was an infatuation. But that is just my personal opinion. I really liked the writing style, though and the comfortable charm that was ingrained into it.

It was a struggle for me to finish this one, and while I liked the setting and the feel, I just didn't find myself drawn in to the plot. And sometimes that happens, and this book just wasn't for me.

But that's my personal opinion, and I think that there are alot of people out there that would really like this book with it's comfortable, sweet prairie romance charm.

But overall the plot and character interaction just wasn't catching me, and I guess in closing I will just say that this wasn't a good match between reader and book. Though I would be interested in reading another book from this author, just to see if I would like it alot more than I did this one. This is my honest opinion. Thanks :)

Abigail Monroe has traveled to Porterfield, Texas to begin her new life. She is following her brother Daniel and his wife Kate where they have settled. With her inheritance from her Grandfather she is setting up a new Library in this town. She is so excited about it, and the town looks forward to its happening.
When she arrives she has not intention of becoming involved with anyone to lead to marriage, but she finds herself attracted to two men. Cory Muldoon, Kate's brother, and a local lawman, the other is the new town Doctor Elliot Jensen. Cory, does not think he will ever marry, being a lawman he doesn't want a wife to worry all the time. Elliot has his own demons, he lost his wife to be in a tragic accident, and blames himself and God.
A the story progress you will wonder which or either of them Abigail will end up with. Also how God interacts in their lives is wonderful! This is also the third book in this series, and you don't have to of read the others to enjoy this one.
    A great quick read. Enjoy!

I received this book from the Publisher Realms, and was not required to give a positive review.

Not wanting to stay in Connecticut, Abigail travels to Texas to join her brother Daniel and his wife Kate and start a library. She has no intention of falling in love, but soon finds herself attracted to two very different men. Cory Muldoon, the charming deputy sheriff and the quiet town doctor. As Abigail is prone to trouble, she finds herself in Doc Elliot's office time and again. Shy and reticent from past tragedy, Elliot falls in love, but struggles with allowing his feelings to be known. As Abigail discovers what her path is and the direction God wants her take, she must decide which man she truly loves. When Abigail finds herself kidnapped after a bank robbery, both men work to rescue her.

I was happy to learn Elliot's story and his romance with Abigail is so sweet. I love the Muldoon and Monroe families and everyone returns in this story. The book stands alone well, but it's always nice to read a series in order.

This is third in the Seasons of the Heart trilogy and is my favorite so far.

Series Seasons of the Heart book #3"Winter Promise" by Martha Rogers

I have enjoyed this series with one more to go, but sure did want to shake the young Doctor Elliot who held onto his hurt and anger for such a long time. He did have devastating loss of young woman who was to be his bride and he felt as a doctor he should have done more to save her.
We have read of three now that left their homes and come to Porterfield Tx as it grows by leaps and bounds in the late 1800's.
Abigail had a friend move to Tx and also a brother so she wanted to make it her home too. She plans to open a library for the community and is not interested in a man in her life at this time. it seems almost immediately she has an accident and meets the young doctor Elliot. They both are not interested in a relationship at this time in their lives but just maybe God has other plans.
You will want to read this series and meet four young women determined to make a better life for themselves and we will see friendship-Faith and Love grow in this little community of Texas, along with forgiveness....

  • The Loopy Librarian

Winter Promise made me instantly biased in its favor when the main character decided to build and run a town library. I enjoyed reading this book in much the same way that I enjoy a bowl of mashed potatoes. It may not be a four course meal or a spicy Mexican dish, but it hit the spot. It's good comfort "food." I like the town of Porterfield, Texas and the Muldoon family. It's a friendly place and a lively family. The romantic possibilities for Abigail keep the reader guessing and add some humor and drama. She is a feisty and engaging character with an independent spirit which I liked. It was easy to see why the men fell for her. I also thought the author did a good job of portraying the doctor's inner struggle as he fought his feelings and was forced to deal with the pain of his past. Overall, a lovely and comforting story.

A delightful complete story which despite only having not read the previous two titles plus a fourth book available too - still worked as a stand alone book. In fact I enjoyed it so much I will be considering purchasing the other titles too.

Abigail arrives in town single and happy that way although a small part of her fears being left on the shelf, so to speak. She's independent and wants to set up her own library in the town where her brother and his wife have settled.

After spraining her ankle she meets the local doctor, Elliot Jensen. Attraction sparked - but young Doc Elliot hides a wonder past behind the professional exterior. Abigail also comes to the attention of the local sheriffs deputy Cory.

Two equally intriguing bachelors and plenty of twists of turns keep the reader engaged from the start and a satisfying conclusions sets this story as a keeper.

    Winter's Promise
    by Martha Rogers

I really enjoyed reading this book!! This is the first book I have read from this author, but I plan to read the rest of the books she has written to learn more about the people in this book!

I have something in common with Abigail, in that I work in a library. I enjoy helping people find books, then learn later that they really enjoyed reading them!

One thing I appreciate about this book, is the way that Doc Elliot is able to move past his hurts, forgive himself and renew his relationship with God.
I am so glad that God extends His mercy and grace to us. Whatever the circumstance, we can lean on Him to get through it!

    I highly recommend this book!

  • Jennah

I really liked the story especially the Christian lesson you can be taught from it.

Abigail is looking for an adventure so she decides to join her brother in Texas. There she meets Cory and Elliot who both are madly in love with her. But Elliot is a doctor who has a past behind him that discourages him from getting to know Abigail. And Cory is the sherriff of the town who continally gives her the attention. Find out what happens by reading it! I definitly recommend it.
