Griffin Hartwell, Viscount Benning never imagined that playing the highwayman would bring him face-to-face with his own would-be bride. Once alone Griffin takes the opportunity to show Annalise just how passionate he can be, but will his charade ruin their chance at a forever love?

Her Gentleman Thief Reviews

Short and rather adorable. A nice way to fill in some spare 15 minutes. There's not much time to properly get to know the characters but still I managed to get quite attached.

Annalise is on her way to her wedding with her sister and maid when a highwayman holds up the carriage. To protect her sister's reputation, and to evade her own wedding to a boorish man who does not love her, she asks the highwayman to take her with him. Little does Annalise know that the very man she is trying flee marriage from is the same man whisking her away. Drawn to each other before his mask comes off, they share a passionate kiss, before Annalise discovers the truth. Will Annalise go through with the wedding after all? Will the groom even marry her knowing fully that she planned to jilt him?

This was a cute short story, and a very quick read sitting at about 30 pages. Very well written, but too short. It left me wanting more drawn out characters and more story. But it was fun nonetheless.

Super sweet and adorable! This Regency short story was absolutely lovely. Her Gentleman Thief was light, sweet, and a wonderful read.

Annalise was a heroine that didn't want to settle. And, when she thought that might happen, she wasn't going to let it. I thought she was great and I liked her.

Griffin was very sweet and utterly adorable. He plays the role of gentleman to perfection, but he can be adventurous when he wanted to and was definitely sweet. I adored him.

The romance was sweet with a hint of spice. These two were lovely together.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a fast read, perfect for when you just want something light to enjoy.

Her Gentleman Thief was a wonderful historical romance short story and I really liked it. Romance lovers, if you want a quick, light, lovely read, this is one you'll want to check out.

This was such a cute, quick read. Annalise is a prim and proper young lady who is engaged to be married. While traveling with her sister and maid, they are stopped by a highwayman. Protecting her younger sister, she asks the highwayman to take her with him. She recognizes that by her maid’s actions and the fact that the guard and driver have been blindfolded, her fiancé has every right to cast her aside since she was alone with another man. That’s all I’m telling you, if Regency Romance is your thing, or if you like clean reads, or just plain good romances, I highly suggest this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wished I could have had more time with the characters.
Before this, I had never read any work by Robyn DeHart, but now I’m intrigued and want more. Thank you for writing such a good story!!

Let's start out with a little honesty. I only came across this title because I was specifically looking for a short, free, historical romance for a reading challenge. After coming across this title, I decided it sounded like something I would enjoy, and decided to give it a try. Never in my dreams, did I actually plan on truly enjoying this one as much I really did.

For this being a short, free read, it's surprisingly well written. It of course had a few grammatical mistakes that I came across, but overall it was well developed for only being 30 pages.

In the end, I'm actually really glad that I came across this one. I have a love hate relationship with historical romances. Over the years, I've found some that I've really loved, and others that I can barely begin; that makes me enjoying this title even better. :)

A great short story of an engaged woman who feels ignored by her fiancée and that he just wants to marry her for the land her father gave to him. He loses a bet and becomes a thief and happens to stop her carriage while she is enroute to his estate for their wedding. As it turns out, he learns what she really thinks of him. Their wedding day comes and her family feels she is “spoiled” by the thief and her fiancée will not marry her now. He thinks she will not show up learning her true feelings of him. He finally hears a carriage approaching and it’s her. He tells her he truly loves her and all ends well.

Great short story and keeps your attention.

    Delightful!

This short story is a wonderful, character driven quick read about a young woman with a great deal to learn about men and how they deal with matters of will power and self control.

I LOVED it! What a sweet turn out. If you're looking for a quick clean love story this is the perfect one. No sex. But a strong love connection and great historical tale :)

  • Liberty

I loved this short, sweet story! Annalise isn't your typical heroine and her story really draws you in. The combination of humor, adventure and romance is just right.

    What I'm Reading

A few days ago, I read and finished Her Gentleman Thief by Robyn DeHart. This novella is a quick read that won't take too much time out of your schedule. I personally liked it for a couple of reasons: 1) Quick read 2) Sweet and innocent.

Yes, this innocent story is about a young woman, Annalise Petty, who her fiancé, Griffin Hartwell, Viscount Benning. Annalise is afraid that Griffin and her will have a loveless marriage. Granted she's practically on the shelf she would like a little passion. However, she ends up getting taken by a thief. Believing she will escape the marriage. Yet, circumstances are not what they may seem.

Seriously, a sweet little story about two people who basically hide their feelings. Plus, you Annalise gets a quick little adventure. So, if you are looking for a sweet novella to read, you might want to checkout Her Gentleman Thief.

This was such a good story. I loved it. Can't wait to read another.

This is the story on Annalise. She is getting ready to get married and not sure if it is what she wants. She feels that the man she is marrying does not care for her and that he is only doing it for property. She has always wanted a love match. But she knows that she is getting to the point of becoming too old and going to be a spinster. She feels that her betrothed is a dreadful man and priggish. She is riding in a carriage to meet with her betrothed, with her sister and maid. They are stopped and come across a highwayman that is going to rob them. Crazy things happen and Annalise needs to decide what she is going to do. Marry a man that does not care for her or do something crazy.

This was such a great story. I loved Annalise and Griffin. I can't wait to see a longer story of these two or maybe a story involving the younger sister. I will be looking forward to the next book by Robyn and hopefully the next in this series.

    (also available as part of
The Mammoth Book of Regency Romance)

Annalise is on her way to marry her betrothed when her and her sister are waylaid by a highwayman. Desperate to protect her sister--and not get married--she foolishly agrees to be the highwayman's captive. Little did she know that the very man she was running from is the man she ran off with! There's a lesson to be learned here about accepting wagers and running off with men blindly, but its kind of lost as I waited to see how Annalise guessed the masked man's identity. She didn't disappoint, though I was shocked at Griffin's response. I was a little let down by Griffin's reason for making Annalise feel like he didn't care, but well it was a mild annoyance.

Annalise Petty is traveling to her wedding, an event she is not looking forward to, a marriage deal based on a business proposal is not what she had wanted. Her whole world is about to change with a highwayman stops her carriage demanding jewels. What is Annalise to do, continue on her way to her boring fiancé or find adventure with this intriguing gentleman thief?

Great lunch time read. Very sweet yet seductive keeping you entertained throughout.

  • Lizabeth Tucker

When a highwayman holds up Annalise Petty's coach, she uses it as a way to escape her marriage to Griffin Hartwell, Viscount Benning, certain that is simply the price for a piece of property.

Griffin's reticence came close to ruining his love life as Annalise had become so used to being a non-entity among her own family members. 3.5 out of 5.

  • Jessica

Very cute short story (I have a hard time giving short stories anything more than three stars just because they are so hard to flesh out). Robyn DeHart's books are always terrific fun though, this was no exception.

  • Misfit

Book cover Deja vu strikes again.

  • Kathy

    A delightful novella.

An intriguing short story that delivers in providing a romantic interlude that is complete in itself. Romantic and sexy without going to the next level you really want these two to work things out.

  • Mary

This is a cute little short regency story.

  • Diane Peterson

A very sweet little novella. It had a cute twist that was not overdone. Pleasant and fun.
