When David and Cath escape to the country to avoid the ravages of Covid, they look forward to long walks together accompanied by their Irish Wolf Hound, Quentin. But their time spent in each other’s company leads to tensions as it becomes clear that they have different aspirations for the future. Unable to resolve their differences Cath returns to London to resume her career as a campaigning journalist whilst David remains in the country with Quentin lamenting the break-down of his marriage. But life takes an unexpected turn when Quentin becomes involved in a fractious encounter with another dog whose owner threatens to expose David as a predator and a danger to local dog walkers.
In an attempt to redeem his name and explain his actions, David joins the local dog walking group and is persuaded to lead a campaign to prevent the threatened closure of local woods. But it soon becomes clear that the reasons given for closing the woods are much more sinister than originally stated leading David and Quentin to be drawn into an escalating climate campaign with far reaching consequences for both their lives.
(This book was originally titled The Duke, The Dog and The Prime Minister’s Wife)
