This was very exciting. I read it in one day. It's one of the best children's books I've read yet on the Civil War, and would be great for elementary boys with the brave, daring action and self-sacrifice. It's a true story only fictionalized a but to tell the story from the youngest soldier's point of view. Sadly, they didn't completely succeed with their mission, and many of them were killed. But the book can not be blamed for telling the truth of the outcome.

I found this book, the 1953 Scholastic Book copy, in a used clothing store. For many days, my children and I (the reader) followed this narrative. It is a really wonderful book. If it's possible to find copies and I find myself teaching middle school language arts, I would love to use this book. It is well written and an exciting read.

Based on an actual event, this book is great for children and adolescents to learn about how a group of Union soldiers stole a Confederate train intending to destroy the rail line and telegraph wires. The Confederates pursue the stolen train. In the end, the group had to flee the train and run for their lives.

it wasn't what I had expected, in a good way. when I read through the first chapter, the
"action", shall you say, began to grow. if you like war books and trains, this is for you.
that would be a lot of repair for all those telegram wires...woowee -
The stolen train (Historical)
Things I liked about this book this book seems mature enough for my level of reading. Second this book is just long enough to not be considered short but not so long as to create a sense of discomfort when nearing the end of the book, just wanting to get it over with. Lastly this book is not so boring as to be considered a put down-drop dead book but still boring enough to not leave its historical genre.
Things I despised about this book: Nothing absolutely nothing this book is absolutely one of the most amazing book, that is one hundred percent perfect in all aspects, and I am happy and proud to say that I am owner and reader of this book. -
Fun historical fiction about soldiers who steal a Confederate train.
