Heart Eater (Demons of Never #1) Reviews

A clever, intoxicatingly binge-able novel of female rage loosely based on Dante's Inferno.
It was a joy to read this. I am highly anticipating the sequel + the rest of Jinapher's multi-verse. -
Oh my gosh. I didn’t know what I expecting from this book but I was blown away. It read like a fever dream in the best way. Just when I thought I was figuring things out, a new piece of information came to light that totally shifted my view on what was happening.
I am already planning to read it again in a couple of days to find pieces that were strewn throughout the book that I didn’t pick up on the first time that became relevant later on in the book. The pacing was great, full of action with enough pauses to catch your breath before the next action scene.
I for sure want to know more about this world and I am excited for the next one. -
DNF at 40%
Really cool idea, but I have absolutely no idea what’s going on. I saw this book on BookTok and decided to give it a try. It definitely has an audience somewhere, but it went over my head/ I wasn’t able to grasp the concepts.
Positives: fast paced, cool ideas, straight into the drama, vivid imagery, really living through MC’s eyes
I read 35% of this book in one sitting from the first page on, but I was constantly checking my kindle that I was on the first book. I felt like I was missing so much information, dropped immediately into the action, and then it was a lot of quick world building while we were on the move and meeting new characters. I don’t even remember the main character’s name, TBH.
I came back for 35% on, the second and final day, and I was basically skimming. I didn’t know who was who or where MC was or how she got here or what all these eaters and bonded meant. The latter is a massive part of the story. I gave it a final chapter and gave up at 40%. -
Firstly, let me start by saying i really did enjoy this book and by the end I was hooked. And I am now sad I'll have to wait so long for the next one. The storyline is unforgettable and filled with plot twists that I love.
The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because i wish there was more world building because it all seems very interesting. At first I wanted more character building but, as time went on in the story I completely understand why Jinapher chose to withhold some information and I'm so happy she did because it just made the story even more captivating.
The story contains demons, magic, trial like challenges, and a bit of spice. I wouldn't say it was super spicy so if that's not your thing please don't let it put you off this book. The spice aides the story, its definitely not just a story thrown together to facilitate the spice.
The story has enough of a familiar feel to entice you in but puts a whole new spin on the 'demons/magic' genre that captures you till the very end. I'd highly recommend this to anyone. -
So many twists and turns! Loved it

The world was unraveled, mysteries were unveiled. The REVELATIONS?! Wow.
THE BETRAYAL? Yum.
