I Love My Bike Reviews
-
'Grungey photo collection, seemingly inspired by the once-humble (now almost fetishized) bicycle. And those shown are spotless: no mudguards (or mud), light frames that you can flip over your shoulder with one finger. Actually, the people featured, with their terrible tattoos and studied poses, are mostly more interesting than their bikes. The American townscapes too are evocative. The text is a bit soupy, but fortunately there’s not much of it, the wacky typefaces trying to compensate a little for the lack of content. “I Love My Bike” maybe; this collection has a bit more “I love myself” ...'

Packed full of trite photos of hipsters with track bikes. If you are into that, this is a fine book. If you are interested in any other type of cycling, this book is nothing but a quick flip-through as there is very little text and the photos are so small that seeing anything about the bike is as easy as it would be to talk to any of their owners. If the photos were at all interesting, or if there was any information about the bikes or the relationship their owners have with them, there would be a point to this book; sadly, this is a pointless book.

The photos are fun and vibrant, but I believe that true lovers of bikes want to know about the bikes- whether that means a description of each bike/components, larger pictures with more detail, or both.
Since a very small cross section of bicyclists are highlighted (hipster commuter types), I quickly lost interest.
Nice try. Just not my scene. -
The intro says "This book is not about a singular style of bike or type of cycling...", yet the overwhelming majority of the photos are of fixed gear bicycles and their hipster riders. I kept on turning the page wondering if there would be a picture of a pro roadie, or mountain biker with their little snippet of why they love their bike, unfortunately, just more of the same uninteresting photos.

Another boring coffee table book of photos, somewhat of a better quality of what you can get from your local mall, from the same guys who also put photos on mugs and shirts. But the only slight increase in quality would justify to have on your table the photos of somebody else?

Really?

Thank goodness this book was only a dollar at the local dollar tree. I can’t imagine spending the cover price of 16.99 on it.
How do you proclaim to be deep in bike culture and skip a city like Austin Texas when publishing a book on bikes(and hipsters according to other reviews) Austin is THE city for Bike 🚲 culture here, we have hipsters and vegan food in hordes lol. How do you manage to visit and highlight Chicago and SKIP AUSTIN TEXAS. Boo. You failed on this one.
The book did serve its purpose which was me doing research on cities with bike culture. Although considering they skipped Austin it should be noted that there may be other cities with bike culture that were skipped as well, further research is now -
cute little book!!

I can't wait for spring to get back on my bike. Clearly all the people in this book are real bicycle enthusiasts. Many ride year round. The authors took pictures of people with their bikes in New York, Boston, Seattle, Portland and a few other locations. Many people had a few words to say, but the pictures spoke volumes. Nice to know there are others out there as crazy about their bike as I am.
