The sun is up, it's time for little Chester Raccoon to go to bed, but he is frightened by the shadows the sun is creating on the walls. Mrs. Raccoon soothes him with a Kissing Hand, and he is able to go to sleep. This sweet and decidedly unscary board book is both a light-hearted way to calm children's fears at bedtime, along with a gentle introduction to Chester Raccoon and the Kissing Hand for the younger child. Funny illustrations will gentle the scary-looking shadows in a bedroom.

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

It's time for bed and the sun's rays are still out. Chester with his active imagination sees the rays morph into scary creatures of his nightmares. His mom comes to the rescue and kisses the scary rays away.

A cute bedtime story where instead of the dark the light is scary.

Chester Raccoon is a favorite of my daughters. This book is a board book told in rhyme and aimed at a younger audience than the previous Chester books. Chester is scared of the shadows the sun is making on his wall. His mother soothes him with a kiss and sweet dreams follow.

What an adorable book! I love the rhyming patterns found on every page, and the beautiful illustrations to go with them! I'm also in love with the storyline, which focuses on Mother Raccoon helping Chester Raccoon to feel better when it is time for bed, and by kissing his hand, he gives him the courage to sleep well, and not be scared as a result. This is a wonderful book for bedtime, with my son paying attention as I read it to him. Definitely a great little way to help your little one fall asleep!

  • Brittany

Not as great as some of the other chester raccoon books but not bad.

  • Sasha

    Cute

Sweet little bedtime story for kids. It rhymes, and explained to kids how not to be afraid of bed time.

I wasn't much of a fan of the rhyming story method used in this installment.

    My thoughts...
There are few things different about this NEW (6th) book in the Chester Raccoon series. First, it is being written as a board book. Second, the text is written in rhyming stanzas. Third, the audience for this book is for a much younger age - which may be why the book is so short. With that said...its a very cute book that discusses Chester's fears of going to sleep and being afraid of things their lurk in the light (since Chester is nocturnal and sleeps during the day). His mother comes to his aid, and tells him not to be afraid - and of course gives him a kissing hand to feel better.

This would be a perfect for any bedtime story, ages baby through elementary school. I would recommend this book for any daycare program, and family with little ones to read at bed time.

Thank You so much Net Galley and Tanglewood Press for allowing me to read these books! I cannot wait to read more books from you in the future!

A Bedtime Kiss for Chester Raccoon continues the stories of this cute little anthropomorphic character. In this book, Chester imagines all kinds of scary things when a shaft of sun creates shadows in his den. From crocodiles to spiders to bears, Chester's imagination is disproportionate to the situation - until mother raccoon comes in and gives him a hug and a kiss.

The 'scary' monsters are shown to not be so scary after all but kind of cute as drawn. The illustrations bare beautiful full color with just the right amount of detail. The text is rhyming, giving little ones ease to follow and providing interest.

It is a very short book - perfect for a quick read before naptime.

A BEDTIME KISS FOR CHESTER RACCOON

    By Audrey Penn

    Illustrated by Barbara L. Gibson

It’s time for Chester Raccoon to go to bed, but the shadows created by the sun are scaring him. When Chester’s mom tells there is nothing to fear from the sunlight she gives him a kiss, Chester is then able to fall asleep and dream.

A Bedtime Kiss for Chester Raccoon shows the power of a mother’s love. She is able to soothe and quiet the fears of her children with her love and caring words.

The delightful illustrations bring the story to life for even the youngest of listeners. This is a wonderful bedtime story that will chase away the monsters before they have a chance to come out and play.

My Opinion: I received a copy of this book free of charge through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I read this book for my grandson and I'll let his words be my review: "Again! Again!" He loved the fact that Chester Raccoon had to go to bed while "the rest of the world is waking up". He also thought the shadows were cool and "not scary at all because it's light out, silly!" I think he totally missed the subtext, haha, but he loved the book, so he and I both give the it 5 silly stars! I have to go now because he saw me typing this, saw the picture of the book above, and is requesting that I read it to him yet again :D

Families With Younger Children, Make Room for Chester on you bookshelves!

Chester sleeps in the sunlight hours and is awake in the moonlight hours, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have his own fears when sleeping. For some of our children, the moon casting shadows through the night time window make fearsome images in the room. For Chester, it's the moving sunspot that brings his fears. Help your child with their fears by reading Chester and letting them know that they are neither alone in having fears, but also, there fears are not to be feared after all.

Thank you Net Galley, Tanglewood Press and Audrey Penn for allowing me to enjoy this digital book!

I’m reviewing this book for NetGalley.

A Bedtime Kiss for Chester Raccoon is another children’s book about Chester Raccoon. His mother tells him it is time to go to sleep, but Chester is afraid of the sun’s rays. Chester compares the sun’s ray to several things that scare him. His mother tries to comfort him.

Once again, the pictures in the Chester Raccoon books are great .Children will love this book and enjoy looking at the pictures.

what a sweet little story about being scared of the dark, or in the case of Chester Raccoon - being scared of the sun/light.

show the child reader that they are not the only one to be afraid, some people are afraid of things you are not, and there is not really anything to be afraid of. and of course mummy's kissing hand never fails to help out in a scary situation.

** thanks to NetGalley & the publishers for this copy!

This book is an adorable tale about a little raccoon who is afraid of the daylight (since that he is when he goes to bed) and how his mother makes him feel so much better by giving him very special bedtime kiss. I loved this book so much as did both my sons. This could become a new nighttime favorite.

  • Tatiana

A short, sweet story with our favorite nocturnal buddy, Chester Raccoon trying to slumber at the beginning of sunrise. He sees all kinds of potentially scary creatures, but they are drawn in such humorous poses that small children can't help but laugh away the silly characters of his dreams. Highly recommended for ages two and up.

  • Suzanne

I requested this story to read to my four month old daughter. We love to read her a bedtime story every night, especially ones that rhyme so she can learn rhythm. This story was so cute. The rhymes are nicely done, and it is very well illustrated. I will be reading the whole collection to my daughter. I highly recommend this as a cute and quick bedtime story.

Chester is frightened by the shadows at bedtime. Mom to the rescue with her well known kissing hand! Sweet story that little ones, especially those who share Chester's fear, will enjoy and be comforted by.

  • ReadingWench

Chester is afraid of the shadows, however, his mom is there to sooth his imagniative mind.

Yet another brilliant book in the Chester Racoon series, just as beautifully illustrated as the rest. This book is aimed at calming children's fears of the dark(or in this case, the light!)
