Sidonia the Sorceress V1 Reviews

  • Charity

I discovered this title via another book. This is the first of two books about Sidonia, a noble woman of Pomerania who turns to sorcery after she is spurned by the prince. Her actions lead to the eventual downfall of the ducal family of Pomerania. The story is related by a Pomeranian born many years after her reign of terror and is told as the author gathers tales from those people who experienced the terror directly, or heard about it from friends and family. It's oddly written, and the author so frequently mentions tales that he is going to reveal later, it's rather like watching the evening news, as he says "but more on that later". An intriguing book, with some grammatical and language challenges for this modern reader, but I'm now reading the second volume, so there's clearly enough to motivate me to continue on. I'd recommend it to fans of gothic horror or The Crucible.

Where's the sorcery? It wasn't bad, but it barely felt medieval. What was Rossetti thinking?
