The Kid Reviews

The book was a great story of the highly successful early career of Steve Cauthen as a jockey. The story was laid out with a simple yet inclusive style from one of the great sports writers of the 1970's & 80's. The Steve Cauthen story is truly a once in a lifetime story about Steve's amazing ability and desire to be the best. Winning America's last Triple Crown with Affirmed is such a great story in itself but Pete Axthelm's detailed story of the Cauthen family and Steve's growth as a person and a jockey is fascinating. This book is out of print but should be read if you are a true horse racing fan. Just recently I was truly fortunate to spend time with Steve Cauthen who is an awesome guy and truly a very nice man! Enjoy reading this one!

Very timely bio of jockey Steve Cauthen, who rode Affirmed in the greatest thoroughbred rivalry of the last quarter of the 20th century. A good story, well told, and probably would be well worth reading for anyone who wants to know more about the good side of racing.

If you're a horseracing fan, or a fan of the great Affirmed/Alydar match-up, or just had a crush on Steve Cauthen, this is an entertaining read.
