This book series is about a group of girls who discover they are linked by magical powers. Although their mission isn't clear, they know they have to protect the Earth somehow.
This book is more of a emotional book than the first. It deals with death, responsibility, the loss of a friend, and abuse of powers. It also has some funny parts to it like talking appliances, and frog-transformations.
Elyon has disappeared and Hay-Lins grandmother gets sick. Irma uses her powers so she can look noticable at a party and gets the wrong kind of attention!
I didn't like how the girls just laughed at Irma when she confessed, that was serious matter, not something to laugh about. The girls also discover that the Elyon that they knew has disappeared and become evil.
At the end of the book, their is a fight with evil, and the book gets more interesting towards the end. For once, all the girls transform and the battle scene is a lot better than the first.
Once again though, there are comics in the front and back, but the ones in the back, continue the story unlike the actual novel-written text, and (once again) leave you a cliff-hanger. I would recommend this book to people who enjoyed the first, or are looking for a cheap, lite book series to get into

Ah, W.I.T.C.H. So much of my childhood was spend obsessing over the series. The books. The comics. The cartoon. The merchandise. You name it I was into it.

So why only the three stars if I loved it so much?

Well as time went by, I grew disinterested in the series. I went along with it mainly to see how it ended. I simply wanted to know what the final outcome was.

Surely that is not enough to merit three stars? You loved it!

I did, but that was because I was a pre-teen with very low expectations. This came before my vampire-loving period, so you can imagine what my standard was like. Don’t get me wrong, they’re not bad books – they’re simply not something I can go back to now that I’m older.

Thoroughly enjoyable at the time, but not quite so much now.

5/5 Dit deel gelezen met een lach en met een traan. Ontdekt dat Irma mijn 'spirit animal' is.

A great middle-grade book series. Much better than that lackluster TV series.

After the disapearance of Elyon the girls adventure really begins with the threats from Meridian.

I've been going through my old stuff and found tons of books from the W.I.T.C.H. series. I absolutely adored this series as a kid! I'm a sucker for the magical girl genre/ female superhero squads and this series really stood out and along with Sailor Moon was one of the most memorable. I also just realized that I never actually finished the series! I wish I had time to re-read all of the books and read the ones I never got to read. Unfortunately, I'm moving soon and trying to get rid of stuff so I will probably donate the books I have but hopefully I can get copies of the last few books in the series from my library! If I ever have kids, especially a daughter, I hope to share this series with them!

    3,5/5 💫

    Tahle serie asi nikdy nezestárne.
Trošku mi tu vadila Will.

    The Disappearance (W.I.T.C.H)
Haylin heads home, while Will, Irma, Cornelia, and Taranee head to Will’s apartment. The power goes out and Taranee shows off her new power and lights up the apartment with fireballs. Will (not to be outdone) shows her new power (being able to talk to electronic appliances). They all decide that with their new powers there will be more threats and they should watch their backs. They also decide it wouldn’t hurt to train.

Hay Lin’s grandmother (Yan Li) isn’t doing so well and not much can be done. She gives Hay Lin a map of Heatherfield with the locations of 12 portals -from which other dark beings will try to enter-. One is already closed (the one in the gym). Now they’ll have to find and close the other 11. Yan Lin also tells her that she was once a Guardian, The Oracle overlooks them unknown and tells Tibor to pass it on the council Yan Li completed her task. Now all that’s left is the celebration when she arrives at the Temple after passing on. Not long after W.I.T.C.H attend Yan Lin’s funeral. After the funeral, Cornelia is thinking about how Elyon disappeared and more so how she deceived them. Hay-Lin calls Elyon’s name and it appears as if she sees her. But the others don’t see her because in Metamoor, Elyon has been working on her magic and now can turn herself invisible. She targets Hay-Lin as the one she needs to watch out for because she believes in more than what she sees. Elyon is rewarded with praise by Cedric back in Metamoor.

Previously at school, another student goes missing named Andrew Hornsby. Irma has a big crush on him. While out at the park, Will sees Uriah (the school bully) and his crew trying to capture a dormouse so they can use it to play a prank on a nerdy boy at school (that has a crush on Irma). Will comes to its rescue and runs off Uriah and his crew. Thinking he’s come back to bother the mouse, she stomps the foot of an approaching boy. But it turns out to be a cute boy that she saw perform at the school’s Halloween dance with his band. (Matt). Matt tells her how to care for the mouse and that his grandfather owns a pet shop. He gives her his number and tells her to call him if she has any questions.

Irma learns from her Dad (the police chief) that Elyon’s parent's car was found. Irma finally reveals after thinking that maybe Elyon and Andrew's disappearances were connected that she was the one who made Andrew disappear. Irma used her magic to transform into her W.I.T.C.H form so she can go to a party where Andrew would be. It worked! He never left her side all night and offered to take her home. But then he tried to make out with her and she turned him into a frog. She tried to find him but he’d gotten away.

W.I.T.C.H once again sees Elyon at school in a ghost-like form. She walks through a wall and vanishes. They decide the best place to catch her is her house. They follow invisible footsteps to the basement and there she is again. She beckons to them to follow her and disappears. They find a sealed door (Cornelia takes it down) and go through it. W.I.T.C.H is now in a cavern. Yan-Lin’s map shows this is one of the twelve portals. Before they know it, a wall traps them in and Han Lin ends up stuck behind it. The house starts to fight back and the bricks individually trap each girl inside. Will finds herself dangling from a tower but finds the strength inside herself with summons the Heart of Candracar. The heart frees the girl’s powers and they transform into their magical selves and punch through the wall. The only one that doesn’t is Hay Lin and W.I.T.C prepares to go save her.

    My Thoughts:
I guess I should be glad that I *don’t* have magical powers! (I’ve always wanted them) But then ALL All my ex’s would probably be turned into some kind of animal (snakes, rats, pigs, toads) etc. Not 100 percent sure I’d be all that bothered to search for em either. I’d probably be thinking “Oh well, I’ve done SO many other women a favor. And interestingly enough when they all had a good laugh about it, they *said* they needed to find him, but Andrew wasn’t even a priority anymore. Even though in the comic version I think they do find him and return him to a human.

The other part of this story was how it is to have someone close to you and you consider them *a friend* and then they just change on you, vanish, and go *ghost*. Elyon’s change kind of struck a cord because it just seems out of place for Elyon to have such a dislike for Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia (her best friend), and Hay-Lin. Even if Cedric is filling up head up with no telling what you don’t just cut off the people that have been in your life for years for someone you’ve only known a hot second. Believe me, I had to learn my lesson when it comes to recognizing the value of a REAL friend. So I was a little disappointed in Elyon. In the following books, it shows all the confusion going on around her but that’s kinda still not an excuse.

Saying that, (about recognizing a friend) I really think Irma should give Martin a chance. Yes, I know. He’s nerdy and annoying. BEEN THERE! But down the line, I also learned that those are the most LOYAL ones. As Irma found out with the one whose physically attractive, turned out to be a horny toad!

I liked Will and Matt together tho and thought they were cute. The dormouse was cute too (Tho if it would have bit me, I probably would have made sure it was ok and didn’t have a disease. It WAS found out in the wild, I don’t know if I would have taken it home at all actually.

Decided to go ahead and read the second book in my favorite childhood series. Still really love all of the characters and their little quirks. Hay-Lin and Will are especially great. I really did forget how much I enjoyed this series. Enough to go through it in one day.

This was a fun and nostalgia book to read. It was funny and easy to read, it was stunning and brilliant. So good and very cute, the girls are just coming into their powers and really starting to shine and learn. This was worth the re-read and so enjoyable.

This book showed more growth and individuality amongst the girls. It also revealed some secrets around why Elyon disappears. Very quick and easy read yet still interesting and keeps your attention.

My love of reading started when i was young, and it gives me immense pleasure to provide books to Spread the Word Nevada, an organization that passes them on to children in the community. They are a terrific organization supporting an important cause. If your local I encourage you to check them out. For those living further a field, look in your own community, their may already be a similar program in place. And if not, you can always help start one.

Myself, I go out on the weekends and
shop thrift store and bulk book lots to rescue books and donate them. Sometimes I'll find a book I remember reading when I was young and will read it again before passing it on.

I don't rate these books using my normal scale, instead I give most of them three stars. This isn't a Criticism of the book, simply my way of rating them as good for children.

This was the first W.I.T.C.H novel I read. The first comic I read was in Arabic and it was issue number 20. So naturally I didn't understand much (I suppose I just liked the illustrations). I couldn't find the first book, so i settled with this one. I was a little unnerved with the way the girls handled their newfound magic, but I liked the story plot. i just wish it could've been a little longer. and I wish I could find the comics somewhere. In English, if you don't mind!!

I used to like these series. Now, I don't think they're so good anymore. I got up to number 12 or something like that, and they've gone up to #26 or something... and they're still coming out!! I'm not really interested into them anymore, but I used to be.

  • Lauren

I loved this series! All of the different girls had their own individual personalities that made the series more enjoyable to read. Also, of course the cool magical powers was a plus. I loved the character relationships and adventures the girls got themselves into.
