The texts, many unpublished in book form, were gathered at 56 Hope Road, Kingston, Jamaica, where Bob lived and worked in the 1970s. He would go on to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and he also received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a United Nations Medal of Peace. Marley’s compilation album Legend is one of the bestselling recordings of all time, going platinum ten times in the United States and selling twenty million copies worldwide.
Bob Marley’s wisdom came not only through his songs but also from his poetic, spoken words. The short selections in this book, which are compiled from interviews he gave over the years, will give readers a true sense of who Bob Marley really was and are bound to inspire them with his timeless message of faith, unity, and love.
“It’s Bob, as he was, as he is, as he will always be, talking personally to you.”
—Gerald Hausman,
from the editor’s note
“My father spoke plain and simple words, the least tricky of all. These came from Proverbs in the Bible and also the folk sayings of the people of Jamaica. . . . He was wise beyond education, beyond information.”
—Cedella Marley,
from the introduction

The Future Is The Beginning: The Words and Wisdom of Bob Marley is a short collection of musings and poetry by Bob Marley. Gerald Hausman, a teacher of creative writing, would take his students to the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, Jamaica. On the second floor in an open room Neville Garrick, a good friend of Bob Marley and visual artist, had wallpapered the room from floor to ceiling with Bob Marley's spoken word.
For years Hausman and his students would study the words of the third worlds first superstar, a poet-visionary whose music spoke to the world. Hausman would watch the steady stream of tourist file through the room, gawking but not reading the words that meant so much to so many people. So Hausman approached the Marley family for permission to put the words together to give to the world, and The Future Is The Beginning is the result.
The Future Is The Beginning is a short easy to read collection and gives a peek into who Bob Marley was and what he stood for. Fans of Bob Marley will enjoy this book.

A very shot collection of quotes and musings of the Legendary Bob Marley.
I think HUGE Bob Marley fans will enjoy this collection of quotes and photos, but those (like me) who have just admired his philosophy of peace and tolerance may want to move on to another book.
While I am all-for the philosophies of peace and tolerance, I sometimes didn't feel that coming through in the selected quoted in this book. I guess I also didn't realize how incredibly religious Bob Marley was (admittedly I've never read much about him) because almost every quote included was very heavy on religious sentiment which I wasn't expecting.

Bob Marley is a tough one to figure out. On one hand he seems like an inspired holy man and on the other he seems like a crazy stoner. There are a few gems of wisdom in this book like being true to what you believe, promoting peace wherever you are, and not getting caught up in the race for material wealth.
My favorite Bob Marley quote of all time is “Money is numbers and numbers never end. If it takes money to be happy, your search for happiness will never end.” Now that is wisdom. -
I read this book and I even got my husband and son to read it! Very interesting and I learned so much more about Bob Marley and gave me a better understanding of the man.

Short book containing quotes that were found in newspaper/magazine clippings that were all pasted to the walls in 56 Hope Road, where Bob lived. Nice collection.

He is such an interesting person, an incredible man with an interesting life. In the future, I want to learn more about him, but I don't think reading this book first thing first, was the best idea. Other than his music and the main facts, I don't know much about him. The things he said made me think, but I did not really enjoy this book as much as I hoped to.
I recommend (people who not know him that well, like me) to first read more about his life in general. Who he was, what he did. After that, maybe this book will be a better read! -
This short book is Bob's words. These are philosophies, inspiring words. It is hard to give a five stars to such a short treatise, this deserves it

This was different from what I thought it was going to be when I read the introduction. Still, a good little book with snippets of wisdom. It felt like an appetizer. I want to read a full biography now. I never knew Bob Marley wanted to be a farmer, I like that.
