Can't we just have books, regardless of the genre, NOT ALL HISTORICALLY based, for kids that feature protagonists of racial and cultural diversity?! Almost every book mentioned in this book utilizes books published before 2000 (which is not an accurate portrayal anymore of AA lit for kids, but there still aren't as many options as I wish there were), and almost every single one has something to do with the Civil Rights movement or the Civil War...and I'm like....BUT....WHAT??? Granted, they showcase the award winners, yay, but for the books publication date, it breaks my heart that there wasn't and still isn't representation in terms of diversity in children's books.

Many picture books and children's, YA novels. Abington Library has it in their Teacher/Parent section. Seems like a wonderful resource Published in 2002.

It's a good guide to start a library. We can talk about race all we want, but books bring all our choices home by allowing us to walk in another's shoes.
